The sweet elderly man that stopped traffic so the train could cross the roads

Although I thought the train itself was really neat and authentic, the actual ride was uneventful and limited on sites and not very interesting. I did, however, appreciate the elderly conductors that operated the train. It was only $14 per person.

The train for rides, looks small but fits a lot of people

I really want to give this a higher review but there were several disappointing aspects of this train. First off, this is located in the Berkshires which has lots of beautiful sites so you would think a "scenic" train ride would be scenic. The area you park for the train is behind a business, so we were confused at first. There is one train car that is used as a gift shop. The staff was super nice, accommodating and helped us out when we had car trouble and missed the first train of the day. We waited outside for the train which was one train car. This train car was from the 1950's and they had purchased it in 2014. The staff was dressed the part and the seats were comfortable. Though the windows were filthy and where there was a small hole, several bugs had crawled in and died at the bottom of the window pane. So most of the trip I kept focusing on the dead bugs and the filthy windows as it made it hard to take pictures on the train ride. The train took off and during the ride there was a narrator that told stories of the train. I didn't know there would be a narrator for the trip and wish that had explained that on their website. Some of the points they narrator made were nice but it was hard to hear because it was monotone the whole ride. The views...the views were behind old abandoned buildings that were crumbling, trash left among the tracks and a river that was completely green with sludge. You could see the mountains in the distance but most of the views were disappointing. the highlight of the train was when an owner picked up his dog to wave at us. The train also goes down one track for 30 minutes, then back down the same track. The price was affordable and the idea is promising but a few changes are needed to make this a better and fun ride. For train enthusiasts this is more for you.

Beautiful day to take a train ride! Foliage views were great and the information and history shared was interesting. Just long enough!

The bunny train was so fun. My 2.5 year old daughter loved it. The bunny interacted with all of the children on the train and was so nice!

Awful customer service, the woman I spoke with was rude, condescending and incompetent.

What I thought was strange is that the portion of the train with the food closed down just around noon. Seems to me that would be the high time for folks to what a nibble of something, The seats were comfortable, conductor was pleasant and everything was orderly. If you're not in a rush, it's a nice way to travel.

With the comfortable seats, adequate leg room, and free wi-fi, I usually don't mind the delay, but your time might be more important than mine. Still, Amtrak is a convenient, affordable option for those medium-length trips. Regarding this station in particular, it's pretty barebones. There is a small waiting room that will seat maybe six or eight people as well as restrooms for men and women alike. There is no ticket counter or attendant, but since Amtrak has smartphone apps to buy your tickets and then show right on your phone, the frontier-like, unmanned train shack in the wilderness (or just outside Amsterdam city limits) isn't bad. It also offers free parking and has room for maybe a dozen cars. I've never had any trouble leaving my car there while going out of town for a week, but, if I had left it at the Albany-Rensselaer Station, for example, I'd have to spend another $30 to pay for parking, so free parking is a nice plus.
