The station is served by Amtrak, Hartford Line, and Valley Flyer. This new station opened around 2018. It's a beautiful building with an elevator and stairs to a pedestrian bridge. I liked that they had signs regarding the history of the station. It's handicap accessible. There were many benches and even a little free library. There were ticket machines, television screens showing the train schedule, and periodic announcements. Overall, it's nice train station and it was very quiet on the Saturday afternoon we were there.

They are very friendly and willing to help you, and can offer some help with trains. There is a Quik Trak Kiosk here where you can print tickets, but it is indoors, so if the station is closed you can not print tickets. There is a free hotline to call Amtrak Directly (also inside). The number for Amtrak is 1-800-USA-RAIL. Track 1 (typically south bound, station side) has a nice covered area where you can wait for the train. Track 2, across the tracks from the station, has a shelter. The hours are 10 Am to 4 PM. There is free parking. I would ask the volunteers, but it may also be ok to leave your car there overnight if you are spending the night in Boston or such.

Handicapped access is available with ramps to board the high trains. The station is in Zone 8, which is a $11.50 one-way fare to downtown. I did not see any kiosks here for purchasing a ticket but you can use the MTicket app and purchase your ticket with your phone. The conductor will very definitely be checking to make sure that you're buying a ticket. There are two tracks, one for inbound and one for outbound. During off-peak times, you will need to board at the raised platform which are on the outside of the tracks. There are signs pointing the way. A multi-level parking deck is here which features 436 parking spaces and is apparently only $3 a day. There is easy access to Route 2 and I-190. North Leominster is on the Fitchburg Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail between Fitchburg (towards Wachusett) and Shirley (inbound towards North Station).

The train comes on either side and doesn't seem to be dictated by its direction. If you look to your right when entering the platform from the garage area, you can see a green light over the track that the upcoming train will be using, but there is nowhere in the station that indicates that. You can only board the train up on a certain platform using 1 car. The signage is also out of date, as the line no longer terminates at Fitchburg, but at Wachusett. Just doesn't seem to make much sense as they clearly spent a lot of money putting in a new station.

In another section of the station there's a miniature replica of the town with buildings and train tracks. You can go look at the trains in the yard at the platform. I believe only Amtrak's Vermonter stops at the station these days. A fun little stop for a busy toddler who couldn't stop talking about the trains.

It only took a short walk and an escalator ride to get to the train platform. Passengers were able to wait comfortably inside the station until the train arrived. The train arrived on time, and it was very clean inside. The power outlets at my seat worked perfectly, which made the trip more convenient. The seats were comfortable, spacious, and offered much more room than airplane seats. Overall, the trip was smooth, relaxing, and enjoyable.

There appears to be enough lighting, but by the edge of the lot is a lot of shrubbery and trees, so if you're over there to get your car at night, be aware of your surroundings. There is no ticket vending machine at the station. You can either pay in cash (not card) on board the train or you can pay with an MBTA app on your phone. The last car of the train will stop at the raised platform for handicap access and if needed, the conductor will set the little bridge doodad across for wheelchairs. Otherwise, it's a couple of steep steps. Southborough is on the Framingham/Worcester line. The next inbound station towards South Station is Ashland and the next station outbound towards Worcester is Westborough.

They need to communicate with travelers who are waiting for trains. No problems for people who are going other places, buses are waiting for them. The station is not secure at night.
