The station building is,…read morethese days, a limited-hour ice cream shop (which is lovely though not helpful for the most part). There is an overhang area that is nice to have when it's raining. No restrooms. Plenty of (free) parking is available for travelers, and I've never had an issue with leaving the car there for a couple of days. With connections to NYC, Canada, and Vermont, this quiet station is well-located for northern travelers.

I think there are some mom and pop places around within about 10 minutes in a car. A half a mile down the road there is a yacht club with fine dining. The station agent, Ms. Cathy was very helpful with information about train the status and any other questions I had. The also have clean bathrooms inside and one outside (I didnt look). The have a limited amount of longterm parking (claims 20, but ors really like 10, excluding the section for handicap tags. I am really glad I came to this idyllic location. Note: this is a rural station operating inside a town theater, as a wait station. Hours are 12:30 - 4:30pm and there are no ticket sales.

It only took a short walk and an escalator ride to get to the train platform. Passengers were able to wait comfortably inside the station until the train arrived. The train arrived on time, and it was very clean inside. The power outlets at my seat worked perfectly, which made the trip more convenient. The seats were comfortable, spacious, and offered much more room than airplane seats. Overall, the trip was smooth, relaxing, and enjoyable.

The staff was complaining about the customers and mocking them. I could hear them saying in a mocking tone,"what do you want? What do you want? What do you want? ". Then there was a loud discussion about the state of the restroom and how disgusting it was. Finally, the voice came over the speaker advising that the passengers should take better care of the toilets or they would be shut down. They announced that there was no cleaning crew until we get to New Haven in about five hours and that the passengers should take care to clean up after themselves . Perhaps a sign on the door or inside the lavatory would have been sufficient, but I didn't want to hear about the poopy bathrooms.

This one gentleman named Mr. Ainsley, on the Lakeshore run to and from Chicago was so busy and professional it was like poetry in motion. He escorted kids safely back and forth to bathrooms, parents etc., and you could tell they were relaxed and trustful. He flew past collecting garbage from various areas, looking to make sure everything and everyone was cared for and safe. I think he puts in more miles than the train does ! He clearly is dedicated to keeping Amtrak clean, safe and efficiently run so passengers ride happy and the company is well represented. That said, every employee I met from getting tickets to greeting people as they got on or off trains was caring and positive and a tribute to their professionalism. Good people, all.

In another section of the station there's a miniature replica of the town with buildings and train tracks. You can go look at the trains in the yard at the platform. I believe only Amtrak's Vermonter stops at the station these days. A fun little stop for a busy toddler who couldn't stop talking about the trains.
