Please note: This is a review for the historical Fort William Henry and NOT a commentary on the adjacent hotel, which has its own Yelp site. Some Yelpers apparently got a bit confused about this. The fort has quite a violent but short history. It functioned only between 1755 and 1757 during what we call the French and Indian War. Built by the British and their American allies at a key location at the southern tip of Lake George, it came under French siege and eventually surrendered. Granted terms to leave the fort safely, the surrendering fort soldiers instead wound up getting massacred by the Indians who were allied to the French. After that, the fort was destroyed. The restored fort today is nonetheless quite interesting to visit. There are costumed guides to walk you through the museum, talk about the history, and on non-rainy days demonstrate musket and cannon firing. Sadly we visited on a rainy day and didn't get to see the latter. And while our guide was knowledgeable, his presentation was rather halting. Anyhow, visitors are free to stroll around the fort at their leisure and enjoy the views of the lake and village; there are some special exhibits which also add to the history. And there also is a nice gift shop where you can find books, clothing and some odds and ends. It's a fun way to spend a couple of hours, and the kids will probably enjoy it too. (There are a number of books about the fort at the gift shop; we'd recommend "Fort William Henry 1755-57" by Ian Castle. It's thorough, well written and has lots of useful illustrations.)

Loved visiting this fort. It's also very family friendly. Great activities for kids (like why not let them sign enlistment papers and dress like a soldier for their entire visit!). If you're lucky , you'll see a musket firing AND a cannon firing. The history of the French and Indian war is so interesting to me. The history of the Siege of this fort is also interesting. And if you're a fan of The Last of the Mohicans (story depicts the siege of this fort) , it's a must visit. The group guides are both knowledgeable and funny. Only thing I'd say is I wish there was a mic set they can use. The groups can get big and the acoustics are awful. Definitely recommend!!

Visited this week. Police & military personnel get in free with proof of ID. We toured the museum & listened to two very knowledgeable young ladies giving history of the musket & cannons. We were amazed at how well spoken & knowledgeable the re-enactment girls were. The museum is full of charm and is a must see for anyone who likes history!!

Sunset during tour!

Very nice event. We really enjoyed it. The tour was very interesting and I definitely learned quite a lot! Nice experience if you're in lake George and want to know some nice ghost stories!! Not gonna lie, you definitely get a little spooked out when they tell you specific stories of ghosts still being there!

Most of the outlets didn't work in my room in the East Wing. I ended up having to let my phone charge in the bathroom. The first day we arrived, the smell of the room was not appealing. When we were serviced the next day, that smell was taken care of. The view from our room was beautiful and the hotel is in the heart of the tourist sites and very close to Lake George. We had breakfast at the White Lion which is in the hotel. I don't eat pork and they didn't have turkey sausage, bacon or any breakfast meat that fit my diet, unfortunately. Hence, I had all carbs. The pancakes, home fries and eggs were good. Overall, my experience at the Hotel was not great but it is at a perfect location.

I stayed here for a wedding labor day weekend in the grand part of the hotel. We had a lake view. It was gorgeous. Top floor perfectview. The room was clean and the service was great. They don't have room service which sucks. The bathroom was immaculate. Everything about our room was just perfect. I will def be comi ng back.

They demonstrated a musket firing and a cannon firing, and they were both incredibly funny and engaging throughout!

We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds, it was very spacious and clean. There was only two draws to put our clothes so we each only got one. The shower was big, but the water pressure wasn't great. Overall, it was a nice experience and I would recommend staying here. Also there is a roof top which is very nice and has a view of the lack and mountais. You definitely need to check it out.

The room had two king beds, a small miracle for a man accustomed to one, and the soundproofing was a triumph of human engineering. Even with Oktoberfest raging below, once the balcony door was closed the silence was so complete that I could almost hear my own thoughts apologizing for existing. The hotel sits right on Canada Street, which is the main artery of Lake George's little heart. Shepard Park is practically across the street, full of families, music, and the particular chaos of people on vacation trying to have a perfect time. The staff managed to stay cheerful through it all, smiling with the kind of sincerity that must come from good training or good souls. Parking was a game of Tetris, but I was grateful for the garage. Once my car was wedged in, I had no reason to drive again. Everything that mattered was within walking distance. The rooftop terrace deserves a poem, though I am too lazy to write one. The lake spread out below, blue and calm, and for a few minutes I believed in peace on earth. There is no hot tub, which feels like a crime against nature. The patio outside the pool almost begs for one. Imagine sitting there in January, snow falling into the water, steam rising like forgiveness. The restaurant did not thrill me, and the prices made my wallet flinch. Still, it was a fine stay, the kind that makes you feel momentarily better about the human race before the bill arrives to remind you of reality. Four stars. A lovely place, too expensive for what it is, but worth remembering all the same.

We have been coming every winter for the past six years and have made some terrific memories here…read more There is so much I genuinely like about this place. The location is convenient and feels like part of our ritual now. The staff are almost uniformly kind and welcoming to our kids and us. They remember us, greet us cheerfully and make this feel like a home base. The outdoor hot tub was a particularly welcome amenity on this past brutally cold weekend and it helped us warm up a chill that seemed to go straight to our bones after time outside on the lake. It really is one of those few places that feels like a welcome retreat no matter the weather. If there weren't any flaws, this would be a much easier review to write. But there are flaws, and they are things that should have been tended to long ago. The rooms have definitely seen better days. Many of our dresser drawers barely opened. The refrigerator was hardly cool. Furniture had visible damage and some of the electrical outlets were non-functional or battered to the points that plugs fell right out f them. These are not deal breaking in isolation but taken together they left us feeling that the room was tired and poorly maintained. A little thoughtful maintenance or investment here could go a long way and make the rooms feel a lot more comfortable. Another disappointment this year was the breakfast buffet at TRs Restaurant. In years past it was a highlight and something our kids looked forward to to prepare for a cold morning out. This visit, the quality seemed to have declined and the selection felt smaller. The restaurant itself still has a lovely lake view and a cozy fireplace, and the service was still friendly and attentive, but the breakfast spread did not live up to our memories. So I find myself landing on a three star rating. If you take this place for what it can still be, it is a wonderful family resort with great staff and some truly nice amenities. But right now the condition of the rooms and some of the public areas combined with the breakfast experience hold it back from being the much stronger destination I know it can be. Here is hoping that ownership puts some money back into the property so it can recapture its full potential.

What started as a simple trip turned into something much bigger a weekend that's about reconnecting, laughing, catching up, and picking up right where we left off every year. By the time the Super Bowl rolls around, it feels less like a trip and more like a reunion. The first week of Winter Carnival just makes it better. The ice bar, great food and drinks, the energy around the resort and town it all sets the tone for an unforgettable winter weekend. A huge part of why this works year after year is the people who make the place feel like home. Courtney, the general manager, keeps everything running smoothly and consistently she sets the standard. Tyler and Nicole at the bar are always a big part of the weekend, and Becca and Tonya at the front desk make arrivals feel easy and welcoming every single time. Even in the heart of winter, the place is always spotless thanks to Keisha and her housekeeping crew something we appreciate more than most people realize. Sixteen straight Super Bowl weekends, countless memories, and friendships that keep growing. Some traditions just stick because they're done right. Can't wait to see everyone again at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George. Already counting down.

Boyfriend had no idea where to stay, and it was my first time going to Lake George so I didn't know either; I chose this place mainly because I like using the Hilton app to book... super convenient - you can choose your room the day before (we prefer the top floor) and if you request the digital key, you will receive a message though the app when your room is ready - and you can go up directly without checking in at the front desk (room unlocks with your phone). We booked the most basic king room. It was clean, bed was comfortable, big flat screen tv and all the usual Hilton amenities. Bathroom had a beautiful shower. The hotel is obviously an older one that was renovated, but it was very nicely done. The lobby is gorgeous. I *loved* the lobby bar area, the stone fireplace and the outside backyard with Adirondack chairs, and even a fire pit and a bbq. I would have spent a while there if the weather had been less misty! Usual Hilton breakfast in the lobby, we didn't take part. It looked similar to the one at Littleton NH's Hampton Inn, but with a bit less options. Front desk staff was super friendly and helpful! Very happy with our short stay here and we will absolutely be back!

Service: One server for our party, she was nice but a little oddly for a server she didn't know what ginger ale was and wasn't sure if they had decaf. Our food came out with a pretty big gap between plates, I was finished with mine by the time another in our party got hers. I will say they were very gracious seeing as we were a half hour late. Food: Pretty underwhelming, you could get similar or better food at your local diner. Menu is somewhat limited as well especially for sides and drinks. I got the french toast, it wasn't very moist at all, uninteresting flavor, the strawberry garnish was dried up on the inside so must have been left out for a while, bacon was fine, maple syrup was good. I had a few bites of the omelette which was good and home fries which were on the dry side and without much flavor. Value: It wasn't too expensive thankfully despite being marketed as a 'fine dining experience' I'd say value was about even with the low quality food, french toast was $11. Overall definitely would not recommend, you could get better food at a diner or cafe.
