Let's start off with the room above the kitchen: - The kitchen door has 100% access to our room. If they had employed a pervert that worked in the kitchen and didn't know it, the customer would be in serious trouble! All of our belongings were up there and accessible to anyone who opened the kitchen's back door. - During dinner hours I heard all the orders being shouted and which customer they didn't like. - I could hear the kitchen staff cleaning the dirty dishes/pots/pans - During the middle of the night we heard a door slamming shut...didn't know if it was the kitchen door that lead to our room or if it was just another door that echoed. It was very unsettling. I shot up in bed expecting a greasy man climbing the stairs with a kitchen knife... but that never happened...thank goodness! The bathroom: - I know toilet paper is expensive, but to supply a spit through 50 cent roll was just mean. - One roll was supplied...could have been nice to have at least 2 incase of an emergency. The room: - There was a t.v. with cable, air conditioning that was loud as heck and rattling, a small refrigerator and a microwave...oh yes, there were forks, knives and spoons. - No plates or bowls, but there were forks with food stuck on them, spoons with splashes of oil, and knives that were ok. The couch: - There was a love seat in front of the t.v. with a cover on it. They didn't wash it because there was dog/cat hair in the crevices. Eww. Would I go back: If there was seriously no other place to go then yes, but I would bring my own toilet paper, ear plugs and a gun.

The owners greeted us warmly and warmed up our cottage before we got there. The cottage is a very simple layout, full kitchen and ours was the Ruska which has 3 bedrooms. Even though we were there in December they did not have enough snow for cross country skiing or snow shoeing. It was a bummer but the owners let us rent our sleds and ice skates at no charge because of mother natures inability to cooperate during the holiday week. They also set up a nordic bowling game on the frozen lake which was fun. We were also able to take a hike on the snowshoe trail which also appealed to us. The negatives were that their food if you chose to eat at their little restaurant was terrible (bring your own food!) and that when you do cook you have to make sure to clean up after yourself (no house keeping) It was a nice get away with the hubby however I want our next winter escape to be a little more pampered.

Blue tarp covering a sizable portion of the roof doesn't inspire confidence upon pulling up to the place, but that didn't cause any problems. As for our room, the plumbing worked, the electricity worked, the AC worked (warm summer season stay), the mini refrigerator worked, and the staff was friendly, personable, and professional. No bugs, no insects, no creepy-crawlies, no smells, no odors, no mold, no mildew. No problems or issues! Rates were reasonable. It's not a five-star facility, or even a four-star, but it is what it is and makes no pretenses about it. If we wanted to be picky and overly critical, there was no microwave in the room, my wife thought the beds were a little too soft (they were okay with me), and she also found the water not to her liking either in taste or smell (it's well water; geeez, remember, you're out in the country! she's a city girl). The front desk staff were nice enough, for the most part, up until our last eve & check out morning, did we encounter a new front desk gal who was extremely upbeat & helpful. We asked for a picture together as the waitress at the Ruths' Chris steakhouse pretty much gave us the brush off when we asked if she could snap a photo before we left. The gal gladly obliged & seemed excited to learn that we were newly discovered siblings who found each other a few years ago & this was our first time away together to do some bonding... Here's the rundown of some of my thumbs up/thumbs down/meh... *I was told there would be coffee waiting if either party arrived before check-in. Unfortunately my sibling said the coffee wasn't hot & it was apparent that it was sitting out for awhile. That's a thumbs down! *About the bathroom in the suite - Floor seemed kind of sticky, I found some dust build up on the TP holder & the tub floor had no kind of slip prevention. It almost appeared there was a long time ago & maybe it wore off or was removed? There are marks on the tub floor but that was all. I recently had a knee injury & I was trying to step very carefully while holding onto the 2 small shower racks on the wall which you can place your soap on or whatever. I felt this was an accident waiting to happen & should be taken care of asap before someone takes a slip in that tub. And also, they could do better with their TP. I drove to the hotel & brought some softer varieties from home. But seriously, c'mon! Extended stays should splurge a bit for something like that imo. *We had the breakfast on Sat & Sun morning. Meh... The coffee was ok the first morn (Sat) but not so great on Sun or Mon morn. There's a decent variety of stuff but nothing to write home about. I guess because they provide coffee but a lot of people like their Keurig's these days & can easily bring their favorite coffee along which I did. Oh well... *The bed was pretty damn comfortable. The room was quiet for the most part but then I was woken up several times during the nite to some weird noises that seemed to be coming from the hall. I have no clue & could not say what was going on. Could have been just a neighboring guest coming in or out because the doors close super hard with a big loud bang (EEK)! *Upon check out we had to do a split bill which I was hoping would not cause any confusion but we had the help of the nice gal from the nite before & a super nice manager who jumped in to make the check out an easy one & didn't mind taking the extra steps to help. Big thumbs up! *Parking was no issue, there's a big lot there. I know it seems I'm focusing a lot on the 'thumbs down' most of all but I write this to point out some stuff in hopes that management will see it & take stuff into consideration & also so people know in advance what to possibly expect. There's always room for improvement but with all that I would definitely consider using a Staybridge again if needed. This hotel was better than a lot of places I've stayed in the past so that says a lot... Overall, a thumbs up experience!
