We stayed her for honeymoon 26 years ago and it was magical. Linda and Gene added such a personal touch and we dreamed some day of returning. Every detail was exquisitely executed from the gardens to the food. It was so memorable that we decided to come back for our 26th anniversary this year. We booked a weekend and noticed the weekend before that the ownership had changed. We had high expectations and Linda and Genes shoes were big ones to fill. Understanding this we expected there would be adjustments. Soon arriving we noticed the gardens had been completely overgrown with weeds and unkept. Proceeding to the porch we noticed the house siding and windows were filthy and cobs webs were plenty. The porch was dingy worn and in need of repair. As we entered we noticed they had created a more modern space with a wine bar which, we were told, will soon will be opened to the public with new large leather furniture which dominated the living room. The renovation albums that Linda meticulously created have been replaced with motorcycle magazines. We noticed all the draperies had all been removed and a dank quiet hung over the room. The fairytale charm was gone. Tamara greeted us and explained the changes and explained to us she would be making us breakfast and asked us to pick a time slot and check the boxes from a menu selection she provided . After she showed us to our room (Victoria room) where we stayed the first time. We noticed wall decors had been removed and the magic was gone. We nervously discussed how breakfast would perhaps be changed. I had dreams about returning to the Lamplight Inn for Linda's delicious chocolate cappacino muffins and only hoped that they would be available in the morning. To our surprise around 7:30am I heard music and the bustling of servers preparing our breakfast and the waft of Genes home fries. Breakfast was delicious and well prepared. Servers were gracious and on cue. Just as we remembered. There were a few changes but definitely a wonderful breakfast minus the personal Linda touches we had loved. If your returning here from a lovely enchanted stay from days gone by you will be sadly disappointed. We feel the website should be updated to allow customers to understand the changes or at least an email at booking. The magic is gone and we can only thank Gene and Linda for creating a beautiful memory for us when we stayed 26 years ago. Sadly we will not be returning as we do not like the direction the new owner are taking it. We feel a wine bar opened to the public would be loud and intrusive to the guests and the lack of upkeep to grounds is terribly sad. read more

Well, I can tell you that this is the exceptional epitome of a sweetheart, small town charm, warm hug of a place. The Lamplight Inn was the place my fiancee and I chose as a quick getaway from NYC. We were not disappointed. Linda and Gene, the sweet couple who own the place, are the nicest and most accommodating hosts. Gene looks like the kind of guy who can tell you a great tale or two about everything and anything. Gene's a great breakfast chef. All of our breakfasts were fresh, tasty and very well presented. Maureen and her partner (I forgot her name :( ) were super attentive to all the hosts. Not a single glass was left empty nor a single person not served. Linda is a very active hostess; you'll find her walking around the dining room chatting up all of the guests as if they were long time friends. Honestly? That's what being here felt like. We loved it. We paid a sweet deal for a beautiful experience. We were only 10 minutes from Lake George and had no need to pay their high prices. Thank you Linda and Gene! We will be back! read more

Fabulous place. First, Lake Luzerne is at a wonderful, convenient distance from NYC and Boston, so that anyone looking for a weekend gateway to the Lake George, Lake Champlain and Lake Placid Regions would be wise to spend at least their first night here. You can leave work a few minutes early on Friday and still get here at a reasonable hour. Anything further north precludes doing so. Second, the B&B (actually more an Inn than a B&B) is beautiful and extremely well run. George and Linda are friendly but not obtrusive. George helped us with our bags on arrival (even though it really wasn't necessary) and their whole staff is as responsive as it gets. We wanted to get an early start to Lake Placid Saturday morning, and the waitress staff opened the breakfast room early to accommodate us. Third, breakfast is delicious and BIG!! Finally, the rooms are beautifully furnished: beds filled with pillows, gas fireplaces toasty (we turned off the heat despite the 37 degree temperature outside), and clean. Our room (Lilac) came with a a teddy bear on the bed, a tea-pot shaped pillow on the arm chair, and a rocker in the vestibule outside our room. The common areas of the Inn are charming and welcoming. This is a great getaway for a quiet romantic weekend or for use as a gateway to Lake George, Lake Champlain and the Lake Placid-Saranac Lake region. read more

This is my wife's first time in up-state NY and she was first amazed at the beauty off the fall foliage. She had always heard about it but never experienced it. The Lamplight in is beautiful and the folks that run it are beautiful souls. There are many rooms at this B&B/Inn with several different options. Some have fireplaces and some even have jacuzzis. All of the rooms are decorated as you would expect and are top notch. Also everything is clean and up to date without losing the "Victorian" charm. The breakfast area is spacious and the food is wonderful! I can see why the ratings are so high and am glad to add mine. My wife are in the area for work and will not be able to enjoy the area as much as we would like so I will most likely have to bring her here again. This is definitely the place to come to if you are in the area or are planning a get away! read more

Staying at The Lamplight Inn B&B was an experience we will never forget. Our hosts Linda and Gene were extremely hospitable and welcoming. They went out of their way to make sure that we had a pleasant stay. Their attention to detail was impeccable. Our accommodations in the Carriage House were very comfortable and had all the amenities one could ask for. The main house was delightful and tastefully decorated. Gene's breakfast was delicious with many selections to choose from. Linda's baked goods every morning were a real treat. I went here last week with my boyfriend for a Lake George getaway and this Inn was my favorite part of the trip! Everything was clean and comfortable, and we felt we were always being taken care of. Giving this B&B the highest star rating! We just spent the weekend here and had the best stay ever. We booked our stay online, last minute, on Thanksgiving night. We needed a getaway from all the holiday craziness. We showed up on Friday and were immediately happy that we did. Gene was a gracious host who showed us around and made us feel at home. I am so glad we were here for the holiday season because Linda has the place decorated to the nines! We stayed in a carriage house room because I wanted a jacuzzi tub. The White Birch/Blue Sky room did not disappoint. 10 foot ceilings make all the carriage house rooms feel like you have plenty of room, yet you feel cozy sitting next to the fireplace or in the tub. The private deck off of the room makes you feel like you are the only ones staying there. Gene makes an amazing breakfast. Eggs, omelets and specials of the day will leave you happy and perhaps needing a little nap. We partook in the mimosas that were offered since we were going to have a lazy Saturday. After spending the afternoon in Lake George and having a couples massage at Body Relief spa in Queensbury we came "home" to a clean room and the best part was the teddy bear in our room was set up on the bed to greet us, wearing a towel on his head and holding my hair dryer and hairspray! That made us laugh and it is these little touches that make me want to come back and recommend this place to all of my friends. Linda and Gene are amazing hosts. We were happy to peruse the scrapbook in the main house that showed all the hard work that they put in this place. Buying it in the early 80s and turning it into the jewel that it is today. You can tell that they love what they do. If they don't, they are great actors. If you need a weekend away...I implore you to stay at this amazing place. They are not children friendly, which is a good thing. This place is for couples, romance and relaxation. Good restaurants nearby as well!
