Had a great time on a Saturday round trip from Fresno station to the Colonel Allensworth State Park. I've ridden Amtrak from Fresno to SF, Merced, and Sacramento before-all good experiences. Secure parking and a spacious waiting area, inside and outside of the Fresno station. Friendly service there and during the train ride. The missing star is because of the lack of maintenance and cleaning at the station-seems like there might be a staffing shortage. Hopefully the station can be a more welcoming place to visitors to Fresno in the future.

Amtrak: 28 Nov 2021 My 80-plus year-old mother-in-law visited us this past Thanksgiving weekend. She got a ride to our house but had to take the train back to the Bay Area. Mary C (ID #90019338) who took my call was friendly over the phone. When I asked if the location is safe for a 'elderly lone' traveler, she remarked that it's 'pretty save, staffed, with no issue'. Mary was wrong regarding the 'staff'. We did not see any uniformed staff on duty. Perhaps they're in plains clothes to catch any wrong-doings. (4 of 5) We live an hour away and decided to set out earlier in case of traffic. We got to the train station with plenty of time to spare - but, when we got there, an announcement was made. The train is delayed... by two hours. The 3 hours and 13 minutes train ride from Fresno to Martinez - which was supposed to leave at 2:16 PM did not leave until around 4:15 PM. It took a toll on everyone - especially the elderly. My mother-in-law did not get home until way past 8:00 PM. This incident reminded me of our train ride to Reno. It took over 6-hours and the train ran out of food and even water. That was a horrible experience.

What a awesome experience. 99% of the staff was kind and courtesy. I would travel with Amtrak AGAIN ‼. ( the guy at the Fresno, California terminal Inside at the window - RUDE . I used to travel on Amtrak fairly frequently. I now have a Service Dog and was a bit anxious to travel with her. (I knew she does well on busses, and she's been to the Train Museum and had been on a simulator) I was worried that we would be hassled because I couldn't find anything online about what to do or what to expect. I bought my ticket online and waited at the transportation hub in town for my bus. It was running late, but the app never updated. When it did arrive, we were checked in as usual and not one word was said about my dog. I loved it. My anxiety disintegrated. The drive was uneventful and relaxing. We arrived at the train station in good time. We should have had a 30 min layover but it turned Into an hour and a half because the train was delayed. The app and station stayed updated, but it still stank to be there so long. The train was just as easy for us as the train. No issues at all. The lower level was packed and my anxiety climbed as I saw how crowded it was. We ended up in the dining car. We had a nice chat with one of the conductors and enjoyed the short hop. I'd have given a full 5 stars of they had been more on time. But the rest was a really good experience. People with Service Dogs can relax, this was a really good experience all the way around.

We had an enjoyable experience Fresno to Sacramento. J Valencia was the voice over the loud speaker today and he was funny and kept us informed of the upcoming stops. I even heard him suggest to another passenger that he recognized - that she sign up for some type of frequent traveler program. We boarded a clean train, with clean bathrooms and we had no issues. We exited the train and my last visit to the bathroom was shocking- why are people so messy?! Ugh! Despite that- we were on time, with pleasant staff and a smooth ride.

The "Sante Fe" Amtrak station in Fresno seems to work well enough. I have helped my girlfriend board trains here (& greeted her on the return legs) several times. Each journey has commenced (or concluded) in a timely fashion with no hold ups or issues. The station is neither beautiful or welcoming. It could have been painted and renovated in ways that took advantage of its potentially interesting buildings - but it seems that nobody considered doing anything like that. After dark, the station's location leads to the encroachment of homeless, rootless and substance abusing people. Downtown Fresno has an army of vagrants and addicts; the wooden seats make functional beds and the station's archways provide cover and hiding places. During the day and early evening, this issue is less in evidence. This Amtrak station does what it says on the label - without frills, but efficiently.

The interior of the Fresno Amtrak Station is very welcoming!

As a grandma of two grandchildren ages 3 and 5, I decided it was much easier to keep them real busy on the days that I get to sit for them. This past Saturday, I decided that a trip to Hanford (my grandson calls it Hamster) on the Amtrak was in order. We arrived in ample time as I knew that I had to check the kids' car seats as a friend was meeting us in Hanford and we would be riding in her car. The baggage check in process was SMOOTH! We first stayed in the station to wait as it was pretty warm outside. The station stays very comfortable as they don't skimp on running the air conditioner. I have noted on various occasions that the grounds and the interior of the station are quite clean, considering the number of people that pass through there every day. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There were MANY people waiting for that train to Hanford. It seems that Fresnans believe that a day trip to Hanford for ice cream at the Superior Dairy on a Saturday is a great way to entertain the kiddos. We all clamored onto the train and jostled for position. We found ourselves in a car that had a multitude of kids and a few parents/grand parents as well. Pretty soon, one of the adults sitting at the table/booth space on the car pulled out a deck of cards for the game "Go Fish!" My grand kids gravitated toward the group and soon all the kids were circling that table area and the card game was going in full force! It looked like a group of mini people in Vegas circling one of the card tables there! Such fun! After a great time in Hanford, we once again loaded onto the return train to Fresno. The kids by now were a bit subdued - simply wore out from the fun day. Upon arrival in Fresno, we went into the station to claim our car seats. The clerk directed us to one of the roll up doors outside and told us that she would have a gentleman there waiting to deliver the seats to us. There he was, ready and waiting with a welcoming smile. Off we went to our car to head for home. Once I got the car started, and turned onto Tulare Street, by the time I hit the second street light, the kiddos were both sound asleep in their car seats. Thank you Fresno Amtrak for a great, fun experience for my grand kids and me!

It's always a good experience with Amtrak. Beautiful scenery of the Central Valley and all it's richness. And time truly does flies when traveling, before you know it you've reached your destination and you can enjoy your favorite aboard. And it's pretty cheap.

Hi, I never been to Fresno's train station or rode a train at all. I am wondering how safe will it be if my arrival is 8:30pm by myself? Thank you!

Will someone be meeting you, or can you arrange a share ride to be there when you arrive? I would not recommend the area for standing around, waiting, after dark, by yourself.

There's wifi and restrooms are huge. Sometimes the Conductors are nice, sometimes they are very strict. When I was on my way from Emeryville to Fresno, I asked one of the conductors about sitting on the bottom of the train and he said yes. From my experience, the male conductors were nicer than the female conductors. I was already extremely exhausted from riding in from Portland into Emeryville as I had a migraine the night before. As I was sitting downstairs, I started getting told something about sitting downstairs by the female conductor, I was trying to explain to her that the male conductor let me know i can sit downstairs and she did not want to hear it and stated that this was her car that she was in charge of. Maybe, communication between the two would have gone a long way. Other than that, I have felt safe and had nothing, but comfortable rides on the San Joaquin.

It's a good station, and it's large and underrated, in a massive and somewhat dangerous and rough City. It's hard to get around the city without a car and it's hard to get to this Greyhound station without a car, which was just one of the problems I had here, even though it's not too far from Highways and downtown and whatnot. I was robbed in Fresno. When I played a show here they stole my tip jar. I was accosted sleeping at truck stops here. I was offered drugs here. They started a viral campaign against me filled with lies and malice and violent threats through the internet, and I'm fairly sure that the people who robbed me were connected to that. The person that started it all works for the Fresno Bee and they'll be getting a nice review from me accordingly. So it's one of my least fave towns in America, and easily the most dangerous in Cali in my opinion. There's lots of palm trees here, and don't let that fool you. I'm not a huge big fan of this Fresno passenger Depot which is also known as Fresno station, but the station itself is beautiful and old and historic. The trains and Greyhound and regional transit services including Fresno area bus is all stop here and it looks like an old Spanish fort or something, so it's really pretty. It's known as the Santa Fe passenger Depot which can be a little bit confusing and looks like an old Spanish Mill or something. Pretty nice. I took off a star because of what happened to Quintina in the other Yelp review, sigh. Horrible.

Both times, FAX has been a disappointment, involving buses that did not run on time, poor placement of bus stops that make connections hard, and require long walks; and buses that are dirty. The phone number posted on bus stops for transit information does not work, on both trip in November 2024 and in December 2023- even after contacting BOTH Greg at the FAX Adminstratiin and the Mayors Office- it seems that nobody in Fresno City Government cares about public bus service. Unfortanely - It simply is not possible to take the train from the Bay Area and rely on FAX to get around Fresno. Fresno is generally dark after sundown with poor streetlights - and there are no landmarks. My most recent experience - November of 2024, it took an hour and a half to get from Fresno Amtrak to the Woodward Park Library in the northern part of town, to meet up with some friends. The #1 bus on Blackstone is the only bus line FAX dies well, it runs every 15 minutes- although there are no stops near the Amtrak station for some strange reason. I just missed one bus, and the wait for the next bis was reasonable. However at El Paso Statiin, where you need to connect to the once-an-hour 58 bus, that bus was turning into the Riverwalk Shopping Center, while the 1 bus was stuck at a traffic light. The connection would have required a long walk anyway, as the bus stops are not placed close together or in logical places. I had to walk 30 minutes from the end of the #1 bus line at Woodward Park to the Library. Lieaving the Libraty, again the bus stops are placed in illogical and strange locations, and it took an hour and 45 minutes, to make the return trip to Fresno Amtrak - I barely caught my train back to the Bay Area. My previuos experience with FAX in December 2023 - I came to Fresno to see a music concert at the Fresno State Campus and I was literally stranded! I noticed the 9 - Shaw route only runs hourly after 9.30pm so I left the concert early - and waited at bus stop # 0826 ( Shaw and Woodrow) for a 9 bus to take me back to Shaw and Blackstone, where I would connect to the 1 BRT that runs in Blackstone. I arrived at bus stop 0826 at 10.10 pm - in plenty of time for the 10.28 departure. Not only did the 10.28 bus not show up- but the 11.28 pm bus also did show up!! The bus stop referenced that bus arrival times were available by calling the FAX information line, however calling FAX does not have an option to actually get arrival information for FAX buses. Even though I brought this to the attention of FAX management and the Mayors Office- in December 2023 ( Greg) - this was still a continuing problem in November 2024. I called for a taxi- that never showed up, and I had to BEG an Uber driver to come back for me after he took his other passengers to where ever they were going. Luckily this particular Uber driver came back for me at 11.40 pm and drove me back- otherwise I would have been stranded. I generally feel comfortable using public transit in San Francisco and in other major cities.........but not in Fresno. as a result of the poor FAX bus service, the lack of coordination and the poor signage - I'll avoid Fresno in the future. Attending both the concert at SaveMart Center in Fresno, and also meeting my friends at the Woodward Park Library were hell, and I don't need to go through this again............... I'll see future concert performances in the Bay Area or Las Vegas where they have decent workable public transportation options, realizable taxi service and the city isn't so dark.

Can I give a lower - ZERO star - rating ?…read more I pre-booked a ride from my home to JFK airport on Dec 14, 2025. The driver arrived at the appointed time and the app notified me of his arrival. I contacted him told him I was bringing all my bags down from the second floor to the street, which would take a few minutes, and he acknowledged. When I got downstairs he had left - without telling me he was leaving. Being in a rush to get to the airport, I immediately called for another car. The Lyft app showed there was a car available around the corner from my location - this was unusual because we live in an area far from the more trafficked neighborhoods and we usually have a wait of 5 - 10 minutes for a car to arrive - and which was why I had pre-booked a ride that day. However, I did not think about it till after we were on our way to the airport. I looked at my ride history on the app and found that this was the same driver who had just cancelled on us and left a few minutes ago. If he was in such a hurry, why was he still parked around the corner when I called for a ride again ? And now the price of the ride had doubled because of the short time on my second request. Pre-booked rides are usually much cheaper because the system works on demand pricing. So - this driver cancelled my pre-booked ride and then waited nearby knowing I would call for a ride again as I was traveling.
