The reason is because it creates a dangerous situation cuz it's between a church and an apartment complex entrance. How are you going to illegally Park here for your lunch break? And then later on in the evening someone from your same company comes and writes tickets for mostly innocent people who Park out here and don't realize it because the sign is twisted. read more

I visited Fresno twice from San Francisco and it would seem possible to catch the frequent train service from Emeryville and then once I reach Fresno, catch FAX to whereever I was going. Both times, FAX has been a disappointment, involving buses that did not run on time, poor placement of bus stops that make connections hard, and require long walks; and buses that are dirty. The phone number posted on bus stops for transit information does not work, on both trip in November 2024 and in December 2023- even after contacting BOTH Greg at the FAX Adminstratiin and the Mayors Office- it seems that nobody in Fresno City Government cares about public bus service. Unfortanely - It simply is not possible to take the train from the Bay Area and rely on FAX to get around Fresno. Fresno is generally dark after sundown with poor streetlights - and there are no landmarks. My most recent experience - November of 2024, it took an hour and a half to get from Fresno Amtrak to the Woodward Park Library in the northern part of town, to meet up with some friends. The #1 bus on Blackstone is the only bus line FAX dies well, it runs every 15 minutes- although there are no stops near the Amtrak station for some strange reason. I just missed one bus, and the wait for the next bis was reasonable. However at El Paso Statiin, where you need to connect to the once-an-hour 58 bus, that bus was turning into the Riverwalk Shopping Center, while the 1 bus was stuck at a traffic light. The connection would have required a long walk anyway, as the bus stops are not placed close together or in logical places. I had to walk 30 minutes from the end of the #1 bus line at Woodward Park to the Library. Lieaving the Libraty, again the bus stops are placed in illogical and strange locations, and it took an hour and 45 minutes, to make the return trip to Fresno Amtrak - I barely caught my train back to the Bay Area. My previuos experience with FAX in December 2023 - I came to Fresno to see a music concert at the Fresno State Campus and I was literally stranded! I noticed the 9 - Shaw route only runs hourly after 9.30pm so I left the concert early - and waited at bus stop # 0826 ( Shaw and Woodrow) for a 9 bus to take me back to Shaw and Blackstone, where I would connect to the 1 BRT that runs in Blackstone. I arrived at bus stop 0826 at 10.10 pm - in plenty of time for the 10.28 departure. Not only did the 10.28 bus not show up- but the 11.28 pm bus also did show up!! The bus stop referenced that bus arrival times were available by calling the FAX information line, however calling FAX does not have an option to actually get arrival information for FAX buses. Even though I brought this to the attention of FAX management and the Mayors Office- in December 2023 ( Greg) - this was still a continuing problem in November 2024. I called for a taxi- that never showed up, and I had to BEG an Uber driver to come back for me after he took his other passengers to where ever they were going. Luckily this particular Uber driver came back for me at 11.40 pm and drove me back- otherwise I would have been stranded. I generally feel comfortable using public transit in San Francisco and in other major cities.........but not in Fresno. as a result of the poor FAX bus service, the lack of coordination and the poor signage - I'll avoid Fresno in the future. Attending both the concert at SaveMart Center in Fresno, and also meeting my friends at the Woodward Park Library were hell, and I don't need to go through this again............... I'll see future concert performances in the Bay Area or Las Vegas where they have decent workable public transportation options, realizable taxi service and the city isn't so dark. read more

The bus driver on the bus 58 took me home was awful today. I mean he was new and he kind of took a while for him to depart but he was actually pretty slow and he messed up when he passed by the bus stop I usually stop at my apartment. Horrible experience and the driver should pay more attention to the signs when I request my stops. read more

Growing up in Fresno there were times I had to take the bus. But, this review is for my most recent experience in February 2020. So, on a Tuesday my dude accidentally took my keys with him to work as I left them in his car. My debit card and other plastic was in tow with him too so I didn't have a card to use Uber or Lyft nor did I have cash on me to call a cab! So looking for change, I manage to find 3 dollars to use for the bus. Google maps helped me find out what bus route I had to use which was Bus 9 and Bus 38. Normally by car it takes 5 minutes to get to work via freeway but via bus it estimated me about 1 hour. I had to walk 30 minutes to get to the bus and due to my previous experiences of the buses coming early and then you have to wait more I was like jog walking to make sure I didn't miss the bus. The Bus 9 route actually came on time and I greeted the bus driver a "nice good morning" even though my morning was not off to a good start. Anywho, I got to my next destination to transfer to the Bus 38 and it was only like a 5 minute wait. I thought I missed it but the bus was running late by a few minutes. Finally getting off bus 38 I walked another 25 minutes to work which I could have transferred to another bus, bus 41 but it was faster to walk. Which it was. Overall, I felt very safe on the bus, walking to work and getting exercise. I must say I was very exhausted getting to work lols Bus is $1.25 and you can get a transfer if needed. Definitely the FAX has improved greatly since I last rode the bus in Fresno in 2012. I am open to one or two days out of the work week to take the bus as it is not a bad form of transportation especially if the buses are consistently on time! read more

Gets you where u need to go. But, I have been riding fax for 9 years now,to and from work. They have gotten so bad at being late that even when I leave early it's still makes me 45 minutes late to work. The one I take is every 15 minutes and I'll sit and watch 3 go by ar times before 1 even comes by my side to go where I need. It's worse now in summer heat,expecting the bus at a certain time and not only is it a few late,try a whole 20 minutes to half hr, that's a bus to 2 busses behind, I have literally felt like I was going to pass out in the heat waiting. And some of the drivers are so rude! I write this as I have been waiting for a bus that is again late,so far by 14 minutes. But AGAIN,I will be late for work. read more

I use the busses to go to my anger management class, court ordered, but today made me get upset. My class ended sooner which gave me time to catch the 2:15 number 41, I got to chestnut and shields at 2:10 (maybe sooner) and the bus never showed up. I had to wait for the 2:45 bus and arrived at my next appointment late, (late fees are $20). Whoever thinks earlier is good, think about those who can't make it to the bus since they follow the time. read more

The bus (especially the 38) is late like 90 percent of the time and if it's not super late then it's like super early and drives right past you. In addition, the bus drivers of the 38 legit take the longest breaks. Like I get there on time and the driver is nowhere to be seen and then ten minutes later they come strolling by with mcdonalds or Starbucks or something and then I'm sitting on the bus for another like twenty minutes. I live on Cedar and Shaw and it is so frustrating because they are never on time for the half hour marker. They are supposed to be there at 9:33 or 8:33 and so on but they are never there at on time and I get there a good ten to fifteen minutes early. I am one the Fresnans who uses Fresno Area Express (FAX) frequently. Not daily, but three to five times a week. It's a great value. There are many options to utilize how frequently / infrequently you use the system. The monthly pass is good if you use FAX daily. You actually save money. You can pay by exact change ($1.25) or buy tokens at the office or the main Transit Center at Manchester Center that don't expire. During the day (6/7am til about 6/7pm) You CAN get around town pretty well. Many of the routes do hit major shopping / business areas frequently enough. Many of the routes do hit and cut a swath through Fresno that hit unlikely parts of town on one route. For example, you can take the 26 which swings from the airport through the Kings Canyon corridor up through downtown, the Tower District, Old Fig, Palm, and up through River Park. The wait times are not too bad considering that Fresno is not a "public transportation mecca" and the DEMAND for public transit just isn't here in Fresno. There doesn't seem to be any accountability with wait times, or explanations when you call the number for information. Like any public transit system, bad drivers continue to drive. Good drivers probably don't get the recognition they deserve. For example, I waited one day over an hour for a bus that was supposed to arrive every twenty minutes. When I called the FAX number, I explained the situation. They put me on hold, and when the operator came back on she stated "We checked, and the the driver(s) have told us they are on schedule" Yet I am the one standing in the 110 degree heat for over an hour with Brylcreem melting out of my hair! Crossing Fresno on the east / west axis tends to be a little more challenging. There needs to be a solid bus route aside from the 9 bus on Shaw Avenue. The 9 bus is needed, but the frequent stops make your trip a little too long to cross town in this manner. If there REALLY is a critique of FAX in Fresno it's the weekends and later weeknights. Between 9 -10 PM it's pretty much over. I understand there isn't a demand or serious need for the bus system to run all night or later but perhaps in the future an "Owl Route" could be tried or tested. A route that runs all night in a spiral of the city covering the major areas of Fresno. The weekend schedule is a bit longer in frequency and getting around can be more challenging, especially if you miss a connection by a minute of two. For a "car town" and regional attitude that "public transportation is a great idea......for OTHER people" FAX isn't too bad. FAX seems to be attempting to improve what they do have with connections, and what they can work with. It's a system that does need to hone and fine tune what they have. read more

This service is very efficient and convenient! I suggest that riders install the FAX app on their phone in order to know the real-time location of the buses. If the driver is relaxing or waiting for passengers for a long time, I also suggest that riders can read a book or listen to music to kill the time. I suggest that the FAX must clean the dirty chairs inside the buses, especially on Route 1. read more

This bus service is slow. Buses come to bus stops like every hour. This is not the worst bus service. I would like to see the buses be faster and more buses running on the major bus lines. I would love to see the transfers not be limited to 90 minutes. It would be nice if Fresno has a subway system. read more

My mom and I are out-of-towners who seldom take the bus in our hometown. The FAX seems to go to most everywhere in Fresno that people would want to reach. We didn't bring our car, so we were at the mercy of the bus. The drivers, except for 1, were helpful, explaining routes and basic bus pass purchasing to us patiently in the face of our lack of knowledge. read more

Never on time, and the transit lines don't go to certain parts of the city.

Route 39 is always late for 8:42 am time and sometimes make me late for class. Not the only bus that's late either but overall I am able to get where I need to on time taking another route. Real useful for Fresno City College students being able to use student ID to ride for free. read more

The bus service in Fresno is Not the greatest but not the worst. The good news Its only $1.25 to ride the bus and plus get a free transfer if needed. They need improvement on the bus routes and add a light rail station. I would pay 2.25 to ride as I already do in Seattle :-) read more

You get what you pay for, that's for sure. $1.25 is cheap but be prepared to be at the bus at least 2 hours before you need to be somewhere. The bus is late like 90% of the time and we're talking 15-20 min late. And if it's early even by 5 min, it won't wait. The website is not updated so if there are detours, good luck finding them. But, if it's your only means of transpiration you're stuck. read more
