Parking is not an issue at this station as it is free without any time limits and completely safe in this rural town. The waiting room is only open 30 minutes prior to the trains scheduled arrival and only very briefly in the evening. It is also a good place for your kids because they can watch any other trains coming past the depot to help pass the time.

I've been taking this train to Chicago for 20-plus years and it was always relatively on time; I would advocate for it to other people and defend it when people said it was always late. It was modestly late. Now it is bangin', rockin', dysfunctionally late every single time. I think I've taken 1 train of my last 10 rides that wasn't hours and hours late. I'm giving it 2 stars only because the local crews and staff are great and helpful, unfortunately they are dealing with a giant steaming pile of garbage beyond their control.

My only complaint is that the prices surge depending on occasion. It's normally around $50-60 round trip one weekend it was $124 ONE WAY! I was in disbelief! I've paid as much as $88 one way and honestly, it's criminal! Especially when the food cart isn't always available and sometimes there are delays. But those prices are insane.

This is information that would have been really useful to us at 5am on a Monday morning when we arrived at the address given by Amtrak of where to catch our train. At least on the day we went, the inside of the building did not open until 10am, according to a sign taped by the door. We promptly went back to our car to drive up the road, toward the trains we could see on the tracks, to see if there was a more station-y station further along. And then we drove back. Luckily this time there was another woman who said she had taken the train before, and we were in the right place. The building looked really nice, through the windows. Luckily the two teenagers I was with were not traveling alone, cuz that was a freaky start to our trip. The train ride itself was great. While there seem to be plenty of horror stories about trips gone wrong, we had an uneventful ride to Chicago, and then at the end of the week, back again. With all that said, we would recommend this as a great form of transportation to Chicago and back. But we also would have loved to know we were catching the train at an abandoned building before we arrived. Just sayin.
