Flint Bishop International Airport reminds me a lot of the Myrtle Beach airport. It's very simple:…read moreTwo stories, an elevator and an escalator. The airport is currently being remodeled, so it's a work in progress. Let me start by saying that while at the Las Vegas Harry Reid airport I had to clean my own toilet before using it, here the first floor bathroom sparkled and was quite nice. No chipped gross mirrors here. I'm looking at you, Harry Reid. I'm giving 4 stars because all of the eateries were closed. If you have arrivals and departures, they should be open. You want to provide an exceptional customer experience right? Then you need to be open. Staff was present and friendly. The elevator worked well and was clean. The escalator was working fine. I didn't take it because of luggage. Although there was construction, I didn't feel hindered in any way. Passenger pick up was convenient and you could load right at the front doors. In all, it's a nice little airport!

I did Amtrak. I flew. Did all the things! The Detroit airport is about 25 minutes from my parents house and the Flint airport is about 50 minutes from my parents house. Flint airport, over the years, became my go to as: 1) soooo much cheaper. 2) soooo much cleaner. 3) soooo less of people. Win win win. Love this airport forever, even though I'll likely never step foot in it again. Wins my vote!

I typically make a reservation on-line. When I arrive pick-up is a smooth, easy process: I provide an ID and reservation number, wait a few minutes to receive the keys and then I'm on my way. I'm usually able to complete this process before my luggage arrives on the conveyor belt. I definitely recommend a thorough inspection of the vehicle before you drive off. I often see a lot of knicks, dings, scratches, chips in the windshield, etc. on the vehicles. Once, the inner part of the wheel well was coming apart on a vehicle - they offered to replace it if a similar vehicle in its class became available. You want to be sure that all is documented before you drive away. I feel like half of the time the vehicles smell like someone was smoking in them. Sometimes I can tell that the vehicle has been vacuumed but often there is still bug residue all over the outside. I image this is because they don't have a lot of time or enough staff to work on the turn-over in-between rentals. Otherwise, I would say that I don't have any issues - at least nothing that keeps me from being a repeat customer. Overall, it continues to be an okay experience.

I was told they had no vehicles. (That's funny. You knew I was coming.) So eventually they gave me a Tesla. The last vehicle on their lot apparently. What the hell do I do with one of those? 1) I have ZERO experience/knowledge with electric vehicles. 2) In my 16 day trip I'm going to Mackinac... I don't know if I need to say more about that. So an 1.5 hours later I finally left the airport after requesting 2x someone come out and teach me how to unlock the vehicle, start the vehicle, drive the vehicle. That's about all I was taught. I was told "you DO NOT need an adapter. You can charge this vehcile ANYWHERE." Day 2 I figured I better start learning how to charge this thing. 6 hours later I drove to 4 chargers, 2 didn't exist on the map. I called a friend to teach me how to charge this thing. Did you know you can go to a charger and it may take up to 8 hours to charge that car? Yes sir. Not all chargers are created equal. After driving to 2 chargers he tells me I need an adapter. I'm like, "no I don't, they said I could charge anywhere." My friend said "they have to give you an adapter or you're going to run out on the side of the road." At this pont it is 10:00pm. I make it back to Bishop, exhausted at 10:30pm with 30 miles to empty. I told the young blond hair guy at the counter I needed an adapter. He just stares at me, rude as all get out and says "we don't have an adapter to give you." I said I spent 6 hours trying to find a charging station and couldn't charge the Tesla and I needed him to charge the vehicle. He said they have no means to charge the vehicle that I would have to use the charger in the airport parking lot and there were adapters out htere for me to use. I asked them to come out and teach me how to charge the vehicle. He said they could not leave the counter and that they close at 11. I said I was 30 miles to empty and I could not charge the vehicle anywhere I needed him to charge THEIR vehicle. He redirected me to a charger that could not charge the car. We went round and round and round with this same conversation. I thought I was going to escorted out of there by security. At this point I 'm thinking, well, I have til 11 to keep telling him I'm can't go make it back to where I'm staying and I cannot charge the vehicle. He tells me they still have no cars that take gas. Eventually a nice man from HERTZ comes over and tells me where to go to charge the vehicle. So I sat, in Swartz Creek at 11pm until 12AM, to charge this damn thing, to lose 20% charge to get back to where I was staying. (That's 40% of a charge round trip to keep this stupid thing going.) Not to mention when I got to the Tesla charger, I knocked on some poor womans window, while I was crying, with her kids sleeping in the car asking her to get out and help me learn how to pay for electricity and charge this damn thing. Reluctantly she helped me. Thank God. Day 3 I spent about 45 min on the phone with Avis/Budget trying to get a gas vehicle. The 1-800 number they gave me. When I got the vehicle the staff gave me a number to call at the airport if I needed any help. LOL! It went to the 1-800 number for Avis and a foreign woman with broken english told me I could drive to Water-Ford to pick up a gas car. I had to ask her to check the inventory and I told her at this point they needed to drive me a gas car, but I would go pick up a gas car if they had one waiting with my name in the windshield. She comes back after 10 min saying "oh, there's no gas cars there." She gives me 2 other locations I never heard of, one being an airport I've never heard of in Michigan and then after asking her to check inventory comes back and says there are no gas cars there either. I asked, "where are all your cars?" I was told people just don't return them. Now where I come from that's grand theft auto. I didn't know that was an option!?! Well damn! Now ya know guys. You can rent vehicles and just not take them back! That never occured to me as an option. Eventually I told her I had an appt and I had to go, so she put me on hold again and made me late. I then told her she needed to figure out a solution on her time and call me back. Which she never did. Day 4 I rented a gas car from Hertz. Returned this car to Avis and informed the guy behind the counter that you can charge to car in Swartz Creek or Auburn Hills and how to work his vehicle. He's like "really?" Like, you rent cars and have NO idea why people are yelling at you and cannot charge your car or may be left stranded in the Flint Michigan vicinity?!!?? You're just renting that thing without a single F*** about anyone. I was even told I could buy my own adapter for their vehicle. NEVER EVER AGAIN AVIS OR BUDGET!
