It's a very basic room, not super fancy. It's great for a cheap stay and just place to crash and sleep. The breakfast or continental breakfast is very basic and simple. No-frills or excitement or luxury to any aspect of the hotel. I think there are more parking spots and ramps and structures for bicycles then there were for cars. Remember this is the country and the city known for the most amount of bicycles in the world.

I was really impressed with this hotel…read more Just a hop, skip and a jump from Centraal Station (ten minutes on the bus), this location is not as remote as you may expect. The city centre is walkable in about half an hour if you know the right directions, and for the money you save in room price you'll be able to stop for a few drinks on the way! My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights, split the cost of rooms so it cost each of us less than 200 euros. Per night, the rate worked out cheaper than some of the hostels in the city centre, and for the quality of the hotel it's quite remarkable. It's clean, quirky and certainly not lacking in personality, which you can tell from the Superman cow statue outside. Inside, the interior ranges from being modern and sophisticated to a bit zany in the rooms - ours had a stripey, 70s style retro carpet and a spacious checkered bathroom that is probably the nicest I've seen in a hotel. They don't call it the art hotel for nothing - our bed was backed with a massive (and terrifying) picture of a little girl. Intimidating, but certainly not lacking in personality! Our room was equipped with kettle, clean, soft, warm towels, chairs and all the other usual amenities such as toileteries that you'll steal but never actually use. I was particularly impressed with the variety of TV channels, from Dutch MTV to various foreign channels to suit tourists from all over Europe. There were a couple of British channels if we urgently needed to keep up to speed on what was happening at home. Downstairs there was a swimming pool, free internet from the PCs on the ground floor and a gorgeous wee bar where you could get breakfast. The security in the place was good - you had to use your swipe card several times to get to the room - and access for wheelchair users was good due to the lifts. It's right outside a bus stop and there was an option to rent mopeds and regular bikes, so you're kept well in transportation links. All in all, loved it and have recommended it to several friends who prefer a comfier choice to hostel living!

There were expertly themed seating areas everywhere in the lobby, a game area with board games set out, and eclectic décor all over. There are cute lockers and a media center too, off of the lobby and near the spa. The hallways on each floor also had hipstery décor touches, with music frequency patterns on the hall carpets and an atrium area with a chain link stingray art installation. There was an "unfinished" look to the walls, and I'm not sure if they were actually unfinished or if that was the look they wanted.We stayed in a twin room with two twin beds. They were nice and comfortable with a bean bag recliner chair and ottoman also provided in the corner of the room. The bathroom was large and the toiletries were very nice. I especially loved the scent of the pink shower gel and soap/lotion. There was a nice view from our room to the North Sea Canal out your window, and you can watch the boats go by/come in. There is also a little dock/pier right outside and you can go to that point to take some nice photos of the docklands. The only feature about the room that we didn't love was that there is a motion activated light under each bed frame and it is very sensitive. So we had the lights flashing on and off randomly throughout the night whenever we would move or the blanket would hang off the bed a tiny bit. The area (Houthavens) is very quiet and not super close to the city center of Amsterdam, but there is a bus stop nearby (about a 10-minute walk) that will connect you to the whole city easily with a 15-20 minute bus ride. They sell the daily bus passes at the front desk/bar area and I highly recommend buying one to get you to the center of town each day! The hotel also rents out bicycles, which is very nice to ride around the Houthavens area. The area itself is very much "under development" with several construction areas still around the hotel and a few businesses that had moved in to the new buildings around, but not a ton of shops/restaurants nearby. There are a few (we ate at Pont 13 and it was great) but just not too many right now as the area is still developing. The staff is very nice and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed while we were there. They have a policy that there are no phones in the rooms and if you need anything, you have to come down to the front desk to chat with a staff member. I didn't have a problem with this, but just be aware that it is the policy for now. When we checked out, we didn't have a bus out of town until that night, and the staff allowed us to store our luggage inside the cute lockers over by the spa area. The breakfast is very light (fruits, a few pastries, cereal) and is $10 per person. Not too filling, but just enough for a quick snack to start your day. Overall, I think this hotel was great and very young and vibrant, but in a not-so-hoppin' area. I think it will be a wonderful little gem outside the hustle and bustle of the city center once the area around there is more developed, where you can actually stay in that area and enjoy the neighborhood!

It seemed to me a good place to get pick-pocketed as it is a very noisy and crowded station and area right outside the hotel. My advice would be to pay close attention to your belongings as you walk from the station to the hotel. That being said, the Holiday Inn Express Sloterdijk is like a diamond in the rough. As soon as we entered, we relaxed immediately in the quiet atmosphere. There is a grocery store on the first level of the hotel as well as a restaurant, which we didn't try. You take an elevator up one floor to get to the reception desk to check in. We stayed at this hotel two times on our Amsterdam trip, for one night each time. Both stays were excellent. As an IHG Rewards member, I was thrilled that we were able to check in early on our first visit. On our second visit, we had to wait a couple hours to check in. We went to the nearby Starbucks to wait as the hotel lobby was very crowded with people waiting to check in. On both stays, we were given a room with an odd number. I was glad, because I had read in another Yelp review that the odd numbered rooms were quieter. The odd numbered rooms face the trains but the train noise did not bother us. We had rooms pretty high up, which probably helped in that regard. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. I liked the toiletries in the bathroom. They had my second favorite hotel breakfast on the trip, and the cool thing is the breakfast is included with the room, which is pretty rare in Europe. You had to let the front desk know which hour-long "shift" you wanted for breakfast in order for them to have enough seating for everyone. We picked the early shift (from 7 - 8 am). There was plenty of food and seating during that shift. They had plentiful pastries (my favorite!), yogurt, fruit, cereal, Dutch cheeses, juices, and hot food items available. Both times we stayed at this hotel, we at dinner at the Hermes restaurant, which is just across from this hotel, literally steps away. We loved sitting outside at that restaurant, enjoying their wonderful food and service. The Sloterdijk Station is only two train stops from the airport and one train stop to the Central station in Amsterdam. We would definitely stay there again.

While not in the city center, the train station is right next door and you can be in town within 8-10 minutes or less. This was perfect for us. The rooms were not huge, but fine for two people. I booked a double bed room but unfortunately did not receive one. If you are sensitive to noise, this may not be the best place for you as it is right next to the train station and the walls are very thin. Two of our nights, people were on the street with a loud speaker and we could hear it all the way from the top floor. I love that breakfast is included at this hotel. Pastries, boiled eggs, fruit, meat, and more. However, I wish the eggs were either pre peeled or scrambled. Overall, I would stay here again!

The hotel includes two properties: MOXY and the RESIDENCE INN that's a good thing: Residence Inn gets the cool MOXY vibe: check in at the bar, wild lobby decor, live DJ on weekends and acres of recreational space: pool, gym etc. Digital nomads will be overjoyed by thoughtfully designed spaces with lots of plugs, solid high speed internet, proper work surfaces and out of the way locations where on can work in peace. The rooms are clean and functional. MOXY rooms are smaller and less appointed, RESIDENCE INN gets a slight upgrade. And pets are allowed too. All in all great amenities, good property and a young and (mostly) cheerful responsive staff. So what's not to like? THE LOCATION Houthaven is a light industrial area with modern developments on its edges. There are few shops, a restaurant or two, a wildly expensive hairdressers and a few bits and bobs. The area feels desolate and soulless and there are few people wandering about. If you are looking for cafe culture, cute little shops, promenades to browse, THIS AIN'T IT The other issue is transport links. I had to rinse off soap with freezing water on a cold night, and because the room heating wasn't particularly strong, I actually had to wear my coat afterward just to warm up. While the staff was very apologetic, they were unable to explain or fix the issue at the time. Regarding the local area, it felt generally fine to me as someone used the crazies in NYC, though the hotel does lock the front doors in the evening for security. We did witness some public urination right outside the front doors, which was quite unpleasant and speaks to the "transit hub" nature of the neighborhood. On the positive side, the hotel offers convenient luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures. There is also a small but functional gym on-site that I used a few times, which certainly gets the job done for a quick workout. The free Wi-Fi isn't the fastest I've used, but it was stable enough for me to handle some work. Prospective guests should also be prepared for a 100 euro deposit at check-in; I used my card and it was refunded promptly at checkout, but they do accept cash as well. It seemed there were always large school groups in the lobby making the typical teenage ruckus, but when we entered our floor it was quiet and we didn't have any issues with noise. Our room was small, as expected, but had what we needed (hair dryer, 2 towels per person, a tiny tv) and was clean. The front desk was more than happy to provide us with extra towels when we asked. The shared kitchen had the essentials: stove, microwave, pans, cups, bowls, utensils, hot water kettle etc. We didn't do any heavy cooking (mainly just used hot water kettle and the water kettle), so it worked for us. We noticed a mouse skittering around the shared kitchen multiple times as well as right outside the building so just beware if you plan to do more heavy cooking and plan to store your food in the common area.

It's a quick train ride or tram ride to a lot of the fun stuff in the center of the city so if that doesn't bother you, no biggie. There was not a ton of restaurants/cafes/bars in walking distance nearby, but there was a couple. Obviously not as extensive as in the middle of the city. There's a kitchen, bar, lockers, and a luggage room in the main lobby. The staff was pretty helpful and nice as well. I thought the rooms were clean and the bathroom/shower was nice. There was 6 of us in a room with 2 bunk beds and two twin beds that we could push together or apart. Sheets were clean, the room was spacious and there was a tv in the room as well. I would stay here again as long as you're okay with the location! I enjoyed my time here.

Comfortable beds (two singles pushed together, which is common for Europe), decent shower, coffee maker, glassware, wardrobe, etc. The hotel does a very nice continental breakfast which is complimentary with the rate and was wonderful! The thing that really got us was the wonderful service. The desk staff went above and beyond on more than one occasion. We decided to stay an extra two days in Amsterdam because we were having a great time. We booked another night because it was available and they ensured our experience was seamless. Same room, no check in check out. They were full the second night but set us up at their sister property and facilitated the transition. Extremely impressed and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

On my last day I had accumulated 10 $ and got to try their excellent Taglatelle pasta. The hotel is in a convenient location for me when I travel for business to Amsterdam. As most of the business I do is at the airport I have often stayed there but after several visits per month for many years I was sick and tired of the airport hotels so this is easy access being next to Sloterdijk and also makes it easy to go into town for dinner. After the chaos of the first visit the service has been really good. Always friendly and fast at check-in and they keep track of loyalty benefits and special requests. The elevators at this place are a bit weird (no buttons in the elevator so need to select the floor outside) but now seems to work. They have a very small gym but I have never seen anyone else use it. The rooms are a bit dark but that is more a decoration choice and it works ok, just a bit weird with portraits on the wall staring at the bed. Everything is new and works well. They have the essentials so safe, mini-bar, TV, iron and ironing board. Free wifi is reliable and reasonably fast. The restaurant at the top floor is decent and prices are acceptable. Good selection of beer (some local craft ones) as well as ok wine selection. Food is not amazing but good enough for a hotel. The atmosphere is nice and there are plenty of seats. Breakfast is also served there and it is a nice and fresh breakfast.

Very large and comfortable apartment style hotel rooms…read more We took a 2 bedroom apartment for 3 adults and it was cheaper than booking 2 hotel rooms. Each room has an attached bath. There is a common kitchenette, sitting space and dining area. Perfect size for 3-4 people. It's well connected by public transport. 6 minutes to Amsterdam centraal by NS train and 15 minutes by NS train to Schipol airport with good frequency. If you aren't in a hurry, there are enough tram stops near by. (30 mins to Amsterdam centraal) Reception staff was very friendly and helpful regarding tickets and passes. It's further away from the city Center, I knew about this location disadvantage before booking. but cost wise it made sense for 3 of us There's a restaurant / cocktail bar downstairs for breakfasts and quick meals. Vending machines for other kinds of food. They have some basic room service too. Toiletries in the bath enough for 2 days and tea and coffee enough for 4 days provided complimentary. There's a supermarket next door if you want to cook in the room, but we just used the kettle for tea in the morning and evening. (Carried out own tea bags from home. They provide some assortment of twinings green and black teas) Cleaning service isn't daily, so you need to keep your apartment tidy, but they provide all bedding and linen and towels. There's a coin laundry downstairs (we didn't use it) in case you need to get something washed. So it's a good option for long stays too.
