The atmosphere of the hostel is so relaxing and inviting and the fresh lilacs made everything smell fantastic. Every morning we had a breakfast prepared by the staff and there was an option to have fresh eggs that were absolutely delicious. One complaint, or rather a warning: there's a man who lives above the bar across the street (lovely little local bar, by the way) who kind of just...hates people. He yelled and swore at my friends and I for simply being outside at any time of day, and at one point, he actually dumped a bucket of water out his window onto my friends. I hope this man receives the help he needs but he is extremely rude and bad for business.

The hostel itself is located in Haarlem and is a 2 stop 20 min train ride from the Amsterdam Central station. Haarlem is a great place to stay and has tons to do and see if you just want to have a relaxing day in Haarlem instead of going into Amsterdam. The room I stayed in was for 14 people and had 2 shower, and a separate toilet for everyone to use. There are bike rental available if you want to cycle around town like the natives & even had a musician come in to entertain the guests once a week. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to everyone if you want to have a comfortable stay at a hostel.

It seemed to me a good place to get pick-pocketed as it is a very noisy and crowded station and area right outside the hotel. My advice would be to pay close attention to your belongings as you walk from the station to the hotel. That being said, the Holiday Inn Express Sloterdijk is like a diamond in the rough. As soon as we entered, we relaxed immediately in the quiet atmosphere. There is a grocery store on the first level of the hotel as well as a restaurant, which we didn't try. You take an elevator up one floor to get to the reception desk to check in. We stayed at this hotel two times on our Amsterdam trip, for one night each time. Both stays were excellent. As an IHG Rewards member, I was thrilled that we were able to check in early on our first visit. On our second visit, we had to wait a couple hours to check in. We went to the nearby Starbucks to wait as the hotel lobby was very crowded with people waiting to check in. On both stays, we were given a room with an odd number. I was glad, because I had read in another Yelp review that the odd numbered rooms were quieter. The odd numbered rooms face the trains but the train noise did not bother us. We had rooms pretty high up, which probably helped in that regard. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. I liked the toiletries in the bathroom. They had my second favorite hotel breakfast on the trip, and the cool thing is the breakfast is included with the room, which is pretty rare in Europe. You had to let the front desk know which hour-long "shift" you wanted for breakfast in order for them to have enough seating for everyone. We picked the early shift (from 7 - 8 am). There was plenty of food and seating during that shift. They had plentiful pastries (my favorite!), yogurt, fruit, cereal, Dutch cheeses, juices, and hot food items available. Both times we stayed at this hotel, we at dinner at the Hermes restaurant, which is just across from this hotel, literally steps away. We loved sitting outside at that restaurant, enjoying their wonderful food and service. The Sloterdijk Station is only two train stops from the airport and one train stop to the Central station in Amsterdam. We would definitely stay there again.

While not in the city center, the train station is right next door and you can be in town within 8-10 minutes or less. This was perfect for us. The rooms were not huge, but fine for two people. I booked a double bed room but unfortunately did not receive one. If you are sensitive to noise, this may not be the best place for you as it is right next to the train station and the walls are very thin. Two of our nights, people were on the street with a loud speaker and we could hear it all the way from the top floor. I love that breakfast is included at this hotel. Pastries, boiled eggs, fruit, meat, and more. However, I wish the eggs were either pre peeled or scrambled. Overall, I would stay here again!

My wife and I booked a two night stay here about 48 hours before our arrival to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a non-refundable booking, but with less than 48 hours from arrival, we figured it was an easy decision. What we hadn't thought of were travel disruptions getting to Amsterdam. We got bumped from the flight we booked and, being a holiday weekend with completely full flights, we were not able to get to Amsterdam for a couple of days. We immediately emailed the hotel and asked if we could move our reservation a few days in order for us to get a new flight. They were fully booked, but offered to refund the second night stay. They later emailed back and said they made a mistake and would no longer refund any of our pre-paid $370 USD payment. While I understand they want to uphold their cancelation policy, sometimes force majeure happens and a little bit of understanding and customer service can go a long way in helping disrupted travelers who have their plans affected through no fault of their own. In the end, a USD $370 bill from Amrâth Hotel Frans Hals truly rubbed salt into our wounds for our anniversary. We made a good faith effort to let them know we missed our flight and tried to reschedule. Their management could not have cared less. They just wanted our money. We do plan to come to Haarlem again, but you can be sure we will not give this place another dime of ours. Truly poor customer service (which starts at the top from management), but more importantly, a complete lack of compassion for a hotel. This is my first 1 star review I have ever given a hotel, and I hate to sound disgruntled, but I highly encourage you to look for another hotel in Haarlem that cares for their guests. The Amrâth Hotel Frans Hals absolutely does not. Stay away.

It's so hip,…read moreand happening, am very happy got to experience it and my main reason for choosing it was because there was a direct bus from the bus stop outside which dropped me off near my work building in 35mins! So I guess having good intentions does matter. So why the love for this place? Well first let my start off with the lovely staff. I arrived at noon and check-in wasn't till 3pm. I was jet-lagged, tired, smelly and in desperate need of a hot shower and a place to rest. Nimka, at reception totally emphasized, called house-keeping and 45 mins later my room was available. The hotel's owner was also happy to supply me with a resident letter which was super essential for me to register with Amsterdam Town Hall and without which, I wouldn't have been able to work. Also Carlo at the front desk, later on in my stay checked that I was happy and when I mentioned the smell of the soup was fairly aggressive for me, since I'm a wee bit sensitively artificial smells, they got a neutral scent soap for me! Just saying! Moving on to the room - oh la la!! It's modern hipster living design elements at its best. Any Brooklynite's reading this review would totally want to live in this space! Everything (including the kitchen sink!) has its place and yet the room walked super spacious. I had a side view of the street and loved the blackout curtains so could sleep comfortably in the massive bed. The headboard was too cute / it's shape profile was like an Amsterdam canal house! The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with pots/ pans/ baking dish/ cutlery etc. No toaster but I used the pan and excellent coffee plus tea machine. Tons of storage space and a lovely + comfy couch. Loved the thoughtfully curated books about Amsterdam that were in the bookshelf as well as the side table. Gadget-wise too, this hotel rocks! All the light switches are dimmers! If you press down on the switch longer, it becomes brighter! There are two usb chargers built-in next to the bedside table, which is super convenient. Also, the shower in the bathroom was fantastical! They had a rain shower which just melted away all my travel dirt and it was super refreshing to use, with great water pressure. The hand-held shower has 3 settings which it was super easy to toggle between. The tiles were delft blue and so u totally got the Dutch feeling. BTW, did I mention how spacious it was? Other amenities that impressed me was the sauna and the gym. There is a restaurant also attached with Movenpick Ice-cream!! This is my fave brand of ice-cream in the world! Ben & Jerrys!?! Pshaw! Movenpick's where it is at! Silky, smooth, buttery - make sure u try this ice-cream at the restaurant if u stay here. Btw, this place is also so well located, it's a short 20min tram ride to Amsterdam Central aka the touristy got spot but it's lovely to come back to this hotel and get away from the crowds and wind down and chillax. Other things I like about the place: - the Braille language in the elevator - the bowl of oranges near the elevator lobby - the wonderful cinnamon candy you get as a gift - the laundry facilities include soap and they also have hanging racks Overall absolutely recommend if you are looking for a cool and hip hotel in a great location for a short trip or even a long stay! We were able to find a last minute room here, and the rest was history. This hotel is modern, spacious, and delightfully new. We loved our room - from the techie-friendly way to open the door (don't worry - really easy!) to the modern bathroom with huge waterfall shower. The bed was very comfortable with two USB ports on each side for easy charging. There was even a stocked Nespresso machine in the mini-kitchen! The surrounding area was nice, with plenty of food in walking distance and the tram right out front. We were able to hop on the tram to get into the main city or head to the airport! (We did both.) I wish we had taken more photos, because this place is so cool that you have to see it to believe it. We will absolutely return to Amsterdam, if only to stay here. Long story short? Choose this one! Like a cherry on top, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended stay to anyone visiting Holland!
