Nothing was terrible, but with other hotels offering equal or better service for a similar price, I would explore other options next time.

Also Carlo at the front desk, later on in my stay checked that I was happy and when I mentioned the smell of the soup was fairly aggressive for me, since I'm a wee bit sensitively artificial smells, they got a neutral scent soap for me! Also, the shower in the bathroom was fantastical! They had a rain shower which just melted away all my travel dirt and it was super refreshing to use, with great water pressure. The bed was very comfortable with two USB ports on each side for easy charging. There was even a stocked Nespresso machine in the mini-kitchen! The surrounding area was nice, with plenty of food in walking distance and the tram right out front. We were able to hop on the tram to get into the main city or head to the airport! (We did both.) I wish we had taken more photos, because this place is so cool that you have to see it to believe it. We will absolutely return to Amsterdam, if only to stay here. Long story short? Choose this one! The thing that really got us was the wonderful service. The desk staff went above and beyond on more than one occasion. We decided to stay an extra two days in Amsterdam because we were having a great time. We booked another night because it was available and they ensured our experience was seamless. Same room, no check in check out. They were full the second night but set us up at their sister property and facilitated the transition. So far it is serving as an unfortunate conclusion to an already exhausting and frustrating travel ordeal. While check-in wasn't terrible, we were assigned a trainee who was clearly unprepared and unsupported by staff who didn't seem to care where we were placed. It felt like being shuffled off to an "out of sight, out of mind" building, as though our airline vouchers had relegated us to afterthought status. Things have only gone down from there. Despite being required to make a reservation for dinner, no one answered the phone to take reservations. After countless failed attempts, we gave up and stood in yet another line, a recurring theme. We were stranded without our luggage, so we asked for basic necessities like toothpaste and deodorant. To our disbelief, the staff informed us they had none to provide and had the audacity to claim that KLM hadn't sent them any supplies to distribute. To make matters worse, there was no deodorant available to purchase in their shop, and we were forced to buy toothpaste out of pocket. No support, no solutions--just excuse after excuse and blatant disregard for guests who were already stressed and stranded. The attention to detail is appalling. At least one window will crack bc we can't turn the heat down enough - as the thermostat is locked - bc the other window/door is broken. it won't open and is currently taped shut. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if we leave with bedbugs given the clear lack of care. This was a disgraceful way to treat guests, and the experience left an already terrible day ending on an even worse note. To KLM: Sending passengers to a hotel that lacks the resources, organization, or compassion to provide basic customer service is unacceptable. To Corendon: Four-star???? really???? What a disappointment - ESPECIALLY under Marriott's name. The service we have received is nowhere near a standard I THOUGHT Marriott prides themselves on having. Ignoring guests, providing no assistance, and failing to stock basics for stranded travelers is completely unacceptable. This experience was a failure. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I say this because all rooms have a clear glass shower in the middle of the room and toilet is also placed within frosted glass sliding doors (see pics). Approaching the hotel, it's very conveniently located for public transit, about 6-7 minutes walk from the Amsterdam Zuid train and metro station, where trams and buses also stop. The area directly around the hotel is mostly residential so street parking is also available. A ramp or a few stairs lead down to the front entrance, and a Jeff Koons balloon dog statue greets you in the foyer, followed to the left by a casual table set up of self-check-in, semi-assisted with friendly staff that come over if they see you looking confused. I appreciated that the entire process was pretty simple, at each iPad station you scan your own key card from a stash of cards to work for your room, also you're allowed to check-in early as long as a room is available. I arrived at 10am and was able to go up to my room right away which was a plus. The rest of the lobby area consists of plenty of seating, a couple dining tables with benches around a central bar/kitchen area, where snacks, drinks (alcoholic and non) and light meals area available to order. Filtered tap or sparkling water also available for all customers to self-serve fill up glass jugs and bring up to your room. Shared co-working and lounge spaces in the lobby were also very colorful and stylish. Staff are willing and able to help with inquiries. The hallways and my room were pretty clean, I wiped a little dust off the desk and bathroom shelves. The bed is very comfortable, (and probably this and the relative ease of public transit are the reasons I would stay here again,) king sized though it's against the window. Pillows were better than most hotels I've recently stayed at. Control for the thermostat, TV, lights, blinds (both day blinds and blackout blinds) are controlled via iPad. TV controls were a bit temperamental, sometimes it wouldn't work or there was a lag, the TV shut off a couple times and I couldn't turn it back on. WiFi was consistent and strong. If you're not familiar with Citizen M they incorporate a lot of witty/humorous content in their presentation so expect to see some of this in the signs and branding around the hotel. Getting to the parts I really didn't like: 1) the lack of privacy by using a glass shower with white curtains that are basically see-thru, and toilet incorporated into the room--really convenient if you're staying with a friend and you want to see them nude, or hear their bathroom functions. For the rest of us, well...not as much. 2) very nice to have a rainforest shower in a small room like this, however aside from aforementioned privacy issues, it's hard to clean and even with good ventilation the humidity will get caught in the shower, resulting in black mold in the sliding shower door tracks both above and below. 3) because the sink is also in the middle of the room, whenever you use it, water inevitably splashes out even being very careful, so you have to wipe it up to avoid tracking dirt and dust all around the room. 4) the room is quite small so if you have anything more than a carryon suitcase there's not much room to open your luggage, also very minimal hanger space, just a few hooks and a few hangers provided. 5) safe in my room didn't work. I kept things locked in my suitcase and was ok. 6) only two outlets in the room, which can be a challenge if you have more than one person needing to charge a few items overnight at the same time. 7) whenever I entered the room the window blinds would automatically open, which I found annoying bc I would have to close them again. The room I was in faced other residential buildings so I didn't particularly want people seeing into my room. 8) last but not least, I'm not sure who decided to place the toilet paper roll dispenser on the the left upper side edge of a toilet with an abnormally high back--imagine trying to reach a foot over your left shoulder or contorting your body at an extremely unnatural bent-over angle to reach and tear off the necessary several squares each time after you use the bathroom...sigh. Or maybe this toilet paper dispenser was built for tall people, not us with the short arms. For some the positives might balance out the negatives, which was generally the case with my stay, and I would consider staying again. However I would also check what other hotels are available next time before booking this as a back up.

I took the bus from the airport and was relieved to find out; Hey this bus dropped me off at a major train station (Station Bijlmer ArenA). Little did I know that station was my one-way train ticket to downtown. Not far from the station is the Holiday Inn Express - Arena Towers. I had to walk about a quarter mile from the station to the Holiday Inn Express. Along the way, I was surprised to even notice the Amsterdam ArenA. Hence the reason for distinguishing "Arena Towers" in their name. Plus the hotel is made up of both a regular Holiday Inn, and an Express type. I checked-in with Romy who was super welcoming! She verified my IHG membership, and made sure I was taken care of. And apparently the only room available for me was on the top level (the 17th). Sweet! Not only did she hook up a nice room, she helped me with planning my trip to Centraal Station. She explained the layout of their hotel, and the complimentary breakfast from 6:30am to 10:30am. I even got hooked up with a plug converter, only requiring a small deposit. The room ran me $348.35 or €308.23 for one night. Yes, pricey but every hotel downtown was booked since it was a bank holiday Monday. The room in general was average looking; Clean in my opinion though. Loved the blue light in the bathroom, as well as the standup shower with detachable showerhead. In the open, next to the bed was a set of hangers, a monitor for cable, and a bed. WiFi worked without a hitch. The bed was slightly firm and the beddings were nice and white. The view of the land, excellent! So overall, I enjoyed my short stay here and wouldn't mind staying again. The hotel was simply convenient being next to the station, the arena, and various food joints. The staff was on-point with everything, and I finally got some much needed rest. It's the reason we stay right, for sleep and rest? It's rare for me to give five stars to a corporate company, but service overshadowed the average stay. There's a store quite close and of course the symphony is just down the street and the Rijksmuseum is an easy walk. The Vondelpark is very close and we enjoyed a stroll there in the mornings. Lots of wonderful eateries around and a fun (small) farmer's market just a block away. We have stayed in many places in Amsterdam but this place is my favorite. My only qualm was that the room did not have AC! The receptionist explained that they are a "flat roof building" where the heat is expected to rise, and only the 4th floor rooms have AC.
