The staff at D'oude Morsch were nothing short of spectacular. My flight was delayed by many hours and they called to confirm and even stayed open for me. The team in the morning are so nice too. I splurged for a bit larger room and it was worth the extra $$. The hotel is right by a few restaurants and I was on the first floor, so there was some noise, but it's to be expected. Would strongly recommend D'oude Morsch to anyone visiting Leiden and hope to return myself. Thank you for the pleasant stay.

Other than Corpus and McDonalds (uh no) there is nothing really within walking range. It's about a 30 minute walk to Central Station. They do provide a shuttle in the morning to the area businesses and CS. The breakfast is good (included) and the bar is pleasant at night. It's open until midnight and decent selections of drinks to please most palates. I would probably stay again (I generally prefer Hiltons) but wish it was located closer to town.

Being…read moreright next to the highway made it stress-free to reach from Amsterdam, and the free parking was a huge bonus in a country where parking is usually a headache. A good option since it's much cheaper than Amsterdam hotels and very close to the Leiden station where you can get anywhere! The rooms were spacious and the breakfast buffet in the garden room was the best way to start the day. A reliable, high-quality stay every time.

Charming hotel in a series of combined older homes on a canal just off the Leiden Breestraat. The…read morehotel has a few nice amenities including a function room and bar/restaurant area. The staff was super friendly. Rooms were quite roomy with a great bed, but not oozing in style (except maybe for the Rembrandt room). Breakfast was typically Dutch, which was kind of fun: sliced bread, cheese/meats, hagelslag chocolate sprinkles, boiled egg, ontbijtkoek (breakfast cake). One major disappointment was the considerable street noise throughout the evening and into the early hours of the night (on a Tuesday). Students emerged -drunk and rambunctious- from the student society directly behind the hotel and then for a while hung out on the bridge in front of the hotel before parting ways. This and the occasional bicycle ramble and passing car became part of our room's audioscape that kept me awake. It felt like there was a near continuous stream of such talking and shouting students from about 11pm to 4am, when I finally fell asleep for what remained of the night (admittedly, in our group of 4 we only had 1.5 person complain about this issue, with me accounting for two-thirds of that). So, unless the hotel invests in some soundproof glass, I recommend not paying extra for a deluxe room with canal view. Other than that, the hotel is very nice.

The bed arrangement was a bit strange as they simply put two twin beds next to each other and called that a queen. Half a star lost for that. Bathroom was clean, water was hot, towels a bit thin but ok. Only other issues were noise - the AC made some hissing all night long and the traffic outside my first floor (second story) window was a bit loud. I only had to reconnect to Wifi once daily, and the process was simple. Location is awesome for this hotel! Right across from Leiden Central and within walking distance to plenty of good food and drink as well as a windmill! Staff was very friendly - definitely a plus. I thought breakfast was fine with eggs, bacon, bread, cheese, granola, yogurt, etc. price is also quite reasonable! Would definitely stay here again.

Tasteless coffee and over strength fake orange juice. Seriously disappointing. And the Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi has the dumbest settings which force you to reconnect 100 times a day. Constantly throwing you off for looking away from your laptop for more than 30 seconds. One wonders which idiot thought that was a good idea.

This was a nice hotel in the heart of Leiden. Not too far from the train station (important when…read moreyou're wheeling luggage in the rain). The hotel is in an old building with lots of charm (and slightly scary, narrow stairs). There are rooms on all three floors (no lift). Mine was nice enough - two twin beds, a table with two chairs, a desk, a hot water maker, a mini fridge, a fan, and a wardrobe. The bathroom was quite small and no-frills. Various bath items were offered: shampoo, conditioner, cream, sewing kit, and shower cap. Instant coffee, tea, and hot cocoa were also in the room, along with a couple cookies each day. There is no free internet, at least not for the standard double rooms. I found the room comfortable overall, but the bed was far too soft/saggy for me. If I lay on my side, my leg would fall asleep eventually. Firmer mattresses would be nice. The breakfast was good - coffee, tea, juices, cereal, muesli, canned fruit, yoghurt, hardboiled eggs, a basket of bread (raisin, white, rolls, croissant), a tray of cheese and meat, and a basket of butter, jam, hagelslag, and other spreads. It was a filling breakfast - so much so that I skipped lunch or just got a quick pastry each day. The staff was very nice. They got me into a room early (as I'd just arrived from the US and was very tired), were always helpful at reception, and were friendly and chatty at breakfast. They even let me leave my bag with them for a few hours after I checked out. I'd recommend the hotel. Wifi would be nice, though.
