When we entered the elevator, it would not take us to the lobby (maybe because we didn't have a key?). As a result, my sons and I had to carry 5 heavy suitcases, some weighing 23 kg (50 lbs), up the stairs ourselves. No one was there to greet arriving guests, assist with luggage, or provide a luggage cart. We were told when we finally reached the front desk around 2:40 PM that someone was normally stationed downstairs, but they were short-staffed that day... We were also informed that our room would not be ready until at least 3:00 PM. When I returned at 3:00 PM, there was a very long line because a Delta flight to Atlanta had been canceled, and many of those passengers had been accommodated at the hotel. Despite there being only 2 employees checking guests in, the wait took nearly an hour. Unfortunately, this significantly cut into our afternoon, as we had planned to head into Amsterdam city center to explore. To make matters worse, when we finally got to our room, some of the towels were dirty, and there was hair in both the shower and the bathtub. I had to call the front desk and request clean towels before we could even get settled. Honestly, there are several other airport hotels in the Schiphol area that offer a much better experience for the same price ~ or even less. While this was only my personal experience, I would not choose to stay here again or recommend it based on the service and cleanliness we encountered.

The property feels a bit old and it's not really near anything, with the main perk being the shuttle to/from the airport. Rooms and common areas were pretty clean, and it covered the basic necessities. Breakfast and dinner were decent, but there weren't many vegetarian options and the variety was limited (though not terrible). Service was good, which helped. I wouldn't go out of my way to book it, but if you're being placed here by an airline (Delta/KLM) due to a disruption, it's not a bad option for a night.

KLM booked a room here as part of an accommodation including dinner and free shuttle from airport. I paid for a taxi given the wait for the free shuttle -35 Euros for a 10 minute ride and worth it. The space is massive and is divided into two sections for rooms. Higher room numbers closer to reception and lower closer to the dining room. If your card won't work on the elevator you're not in the right section. Part of my accommodation was dinner at the Hotel's "World Buffet." I'm not a big fan of buffets so I asked at reception about it -I was assured this was one of the best buffets given his experience at multiple hotels. There was food from around the world as stated-Local, Asian, Indian, salad bar, dessert with cake and ice cream and espresso machines. I will say it was very good by Buffet standards (that said, given the full day of travel issues, most anything would've tasted good) & although I didn't pay, price is close to 40 Euros. They have a nice Bar with a Pool table and plenty of TVs for sports viewing, My room was a single with two comfortable twin beds and was just the right size. Mini fridge, safe, iron and free bottle of water were also included. The big and pleasant surprise was the indoor pool, Gym and spa amenities. Gym is open 24/7 and has all you need for a great workout. Not only did they have a dry sauna and steam room, they also had a Sanarium. (not as hot as a dry Sauna)-just what the Dr. ordered after a long travel day! Service was friendly and upbeat despite the very busy day given the travel issues. I could see planes taking off from my room but couldn't hear them & not too much close by. A good one for an overnight and if you need to be close to Schipol.

And the beds are clean and comfortable. A couple will have to crawl over each other to get out but it doesn't bother us. Not a lot of privacy with the bathroom but it serves it's purpose and it's cool with the atmosphere lights. Breakfast was great with a lot of fresh food to choose from. Even vegan chia 'yogurt' which I very much appreciated. Tasty tea and coffee, fresh bread and croissants and such, Dutch cheese, fruit, eggs etc and even poffertjes, a Dutch treat of tiny puffy pancakes.

The communal space downstairs was nice with lots of places to sit or gather in. There was a restaurant, but not many gluten-free choices so we elected to order in food. Overall the convenience of the hotel for a quick layover and the design of the lobby and communal spaces are ideal. Rooms are fine, just a little functionality sacrificed for art i think.

You can call ahead, but make sure you pick the right Mercure hotel. I overheard one customer being upset for booking the wrong hotel. She booked the hotel in town and there is no refund. My hubby decided he wanted to freshen up and use the shower room for $18 or €15 per person. We couldn't even share the shower room. Anyway, they provided the towel, toiletries, hair dryer, and a clean bathroom. I like the concept of the hotel. I will definitely book a room next time before we travel especially when we have another long layover.

Our stay started on a great note thanks to an awesome Portuguese gentleman at check-in. He was welcoming, professional, and got us checked in quickly, which we really appreciated after a night of traveling. When we got to our room, however, it was extremely hot because it had been a very sunny, warm day in Amsterdam. We called the front desk to ask if they could lower the temperature since there wasn't a thermostat regulator in the room. About 15 minutes later, the temperature hadn't changed, so I called again and learned that it couldn't be adjusted remotely. The staff offered the best solution by moving us to another room, and from that point on, everything went smoothly. The room itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable. One small detail that I truly appreciated was that the bathroom had washcloths. It may seem minor, but surprisingly many airport hotels don't provide them, so it was a thoughtful touch that didn't go unnoticed. The only other thing I found a bit unusual was that it took about 30 minutes for a taxi to arrive when we were heading into Amsterdam's city center. I'm not sure if taxis are simply less available in that area, but it's something to keep in mind. But once you're in the city center, getting a taxi back to the hotel was quick and easy. Checkout was fast and effortless ~ we simply returned our key cards and were on our way for our early morning flight. Our security deposit was also released just a couple of days later. I also liked that the hotel sent reminders before our upcoming stay and followed up afterward with a review request. Those little touches show they genuinely care about their guests' experience.

The rooms are kinda small but have all you need, a comfortable bed and a good shower. The safety bar in the shower is not in the right place and you have to really reach over to get the water started. It's unavoidable to not get hit by some really cold water first.
