200 ML bottle of pomegranate balsamic vinegar
    Kacy O.

Amazing store next to Hideout Kitchen Beautiful setup of artisan olive oils and balsamic vinegars among tea towels, olive oil soaps, and olive tree food products. Definitely worth a visit especially if you love to eat, cook and/or attend frequent dinners with friends. Great housewarming gifts or food souvenirs from California! We purchased one 200 ML bottle of pomegranate balsamic vinegar, blood orange olive oil and gremolata olive oil. Tastes are clean and very delicious. Can't wait to try my purchases in an upcoming lunch or dinner! Thank you to Sharon for the detailed explanations of the product lines and tastings!

This place is a hidden gem! I've consistently bought the Gravenstein Apple Vinegar and Persian Lime Olive Oil, which I mix and add onto all my salads!! All the oils and vinegars have great flavor, and are a light and healthy option for cooking or dressings. I buy the smallest size (200ml) for $8 each, which will last around 1-2 years for me. They also sell caps for $2 each. For such a reasonable price, I would definitely purchase the caps with the bottles because it makes drizzling the oils much easier. The caps are also dishwasher safe! Every time I come, all the workers are so kind and helpful. They are very knowledgeable about the products! I just revisited the shop today, and they are still operating during COVID. I placed my order and picked up on the same day! It's a bummer because a big part of this experience is walking in the store and being able to sample all the different options; however, the employee who I talked to today mentioned that they are trying to figure out a way to allow customers to sample while ensuring safety during this time.

Amphora Nueva is an olive oil/balsamic vinegar lover's paradise! The Lafayette location is my go-to when shopping small for birthday or holiday gifts. One wall is lined with a seemingly endless assortment of infused olive oils, with flavors ranging from Truffle, Dill, Herbs de Provence, Lavender, Maple, and many more! The opposite wall showcases their balsamic vinegar offerings such as Cara Cara Orange, Cranberry Pear, Gravensteins Apple, Espresso, Chocolate... the list goes on. I enjoy that they offer pour-it-yourself samples, complete with small pieces of tasting bread, plus descriptive signage with pairing recommendations. I also appreciate the bottle size options for every budget, starting at $7. The customer service is consistently warm, helpful, and inspiring. I've taken their advice on creating my own salad dressings, dips, shrub mocktails, etc. and their suggestions never fail. In addition to oil and vinegar, you'll find other gifts for foodies like pasta, tea, dipping bowls, spices, even olive oil based skincare.

What a lovely shop! A friend of mine told me about a "vinegar tasting" store and was like, "Why…read morewould I want to taste vinegar." But now I totally get it! The shop ladies were so super friendly and kind. They said we could try any of the balsamic vinegar flavors mixed with sparking water if we wanted to. (But I thought these were only for salads? So wrong of me!) They have a glass jug with the sample flavor of the day already mixed with water. That was the first one I tried: Cranberry Pear. Ooh!!! It was so delicious. Not what I thought it would be. It tasted like a soda without all the sugars. It was actually quite refreshing and delightful. I asked what their top 3 flavors were: - Cranberry Pear - Peach - Sicilian Lemon I decided to try Peach. She added sparking water to it. Omg! That was even more delicious. I'm pretty sure any of these flavors will be a hit. Different flavored vinegars and olive oils adorned the walls! Each flavor has a sign with its name, what they are best used for, and what they are best paired with. I wish I could try them all but I can save that for another visit. They also sell pastas, tea towels, little bowls, and other cute things to go with their products. Also found out that Maison Benoit uses their products at their bakery. Starting with an arresting blow-up of Italian movie star Monica Vitti behind the checkout, it's a visually pleasing emporium because it's not overcrowded with idiosyncratic products. The wine collection is particularly interesting with labels unknown to me. I've been tempted by the delectables in the Grab & Go section, but I've demurred for the sake of discretion. In fact, having almost no knowledge of any of these products, I only recently bought something here because I want to support them. I got a box of Rooibos tea and a jar of Hawaiian masala (Photo 10). I look forward to buying more in the future, though one thought I had was that this store would benefit from samples. On a previous visit, there was a bakery pop-up in front (Photo 8), and I think more of that activity could encourage more in-store traffic. It'll be interesting to see how this business evolves. It was near closing time when we got there, but we didn't feel rushed to order or eat our dinner so that they could clean up and close the restaurant and head on home. We started with an appetizer and garlic bread (see picture). We had about six pieces of bread and as you can see in the picture, it was on the burnt side. I cannot believe that for the price you pay for a bread, they would serve this. I also ordered a black coffee, but it tasted like it had been sitting there since the morning and tasted really nasty. I asked to have a hot tea instead. Food was good. We ordered spaghetti, carbonara, some chicken dish, and a grilled salmon. All the food tasted delicious and we cleaned out the carbonara and spaghetti. After we ate our dinner, they gave my son-in-law a slice of tiramisu with a lighted candle. Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed our food (except for the garlic bread). I'd like to see them do me good and give me a nice garlic bread the next time I eat here.

I would also say that the price points weren't too bad at all- the food and the prices were pretty aligned. I enjoyed the atmosphere, and decor, however I wasn't a fan of how they played nightclub/dancing music- which made it all that much louder and difficult to talk. I will also say that the service was very good- considering that it was very crowded at the time, however I had an odd experience with a hostess. I made a reservation in advance to celebrate my mom's birthday- when my family arrived, we were quite literally ignored by the hostess for about 10 minutes. She looked at us, and said "I will be right with you", only to come back 7 more times and ignore us again. She then made us wait 20 minutes into our reservation because another table wasn't finished with their meal. I initially didn't think anything of it (after all, it was a busy night)- until another group of white women who had made a reservation were immediately attended to by this hostess, and were given a table at a significantly better lit area. My indian family was made to sit at the corner of the restaurant, by the bathrooms. However I want to keep in mind that maybe it was a bad day, and the rest of the staff were very polite to us.
