My mom and I discovered this shop around the corner from The Peasant & The Pear in Danville when we were waiting for our takeout order. Come to think of it, it makes sense to have a store that offers balsamic vinegar and olive oil tastings in quaint downtown. The walls are lined with so many different flavors you can read about and sample. We stayed in the balsamic vinegar corner where there were all types of fruit flavors and had signs offering recommendations of how to use it (on salads, fruit, cocktails, even ice cream). We didn't wander to the olive oil section, but I definitely will next time. They have the following price breakdown for bottle size: Small: $8 Medium: $14 Large: $21 They also have tinier bottle sizes and gift bags which would be fun to give/receive. I believe the owner rang us up and she sealed our bottle for us to preserve freshness (it was just corked when purchased). She said to come back with the empty bottle for $1 off! read more

What a lovely shop! A friend of mine told me about a "vinegar tasting" store and was like, "Why would I want to taste vinegar." But now I totally get it! The shop ladies were so super friendly and kind. They said we could try any of the balsamic vinegar flavors mixed with sparking water if we wanted to. (But I thought these were only for salads? So wrong of me!) They have a glass jug with the sample flavor of the day already mixed with water. That was the first one I tried: Cranberry Pear. Ooh!!! It was so delicious. Not what I thought it would be. It tasted like a soda without all the sugars. It was actually quite refreshing and delightful. I asked what their top 3 flavors were: - Cranberry Pear - Peach - Sicilian Lemon I decided to try Peach. She added sparking water to it. Omg! That was even more delicious. I'm pretty sure any of these flavors will be a hit. Different flavored vinegars and olive oils adorned the walls! Each flavor has a sign with its name, what they are best used for, and what they are best paired with. I wish I could try them all but I can save that for another visit. They also sell pastas, tea towels, little bowls, and other cute things to go with their products. Also found out that Maison Benoit uses their products at their bakery. This place is awesome! We were gifted a set of balsamic vinegar and olive oil from this store. Since it was gift, we had never been inside the store. I looked up the store address and went to get additional bottles because we loved them so much. When I got to the store, I was amazed by all the selections and the incredible flavors. Jenn was very helpful as I tried to narrow down my interests. I went to the store intending to get two bottles - and I left with 6! I wanted so many more but convinced myself to enjoy the 6 bottles and then return soon and try more. This place is a treasure chest. I've lived here for years and had no idea it existed. I went to get a local product for a girls trip, we were all tasked with bringing something from where we live. I got a olive oil and a vinegar. Taste testing was really useful to pick the flavors that I liked. The person helping me was very kind and patient. It's a beautiful store, warm and inviting. My girlfriend and I were walking around to waste time before her appointment. We walked into Amphora and we were both blown away. The store itself is immaculately cleansed when we walked in, we were pleasantly greeted by Jane. She was so informative and friendly that I even walked out with a facial serum made out of olive oil. She blew our minds away when she mixed a little bit of seltzer water with balsamic vinegar, and it was super amazing, we didn't have time to try everything so we have to save that for our next visit. I like the fact that this company has been a family owned company for the last century. We also love that all the products that we did sample were very high in quality. we loved it so much, we can't wait till we visit and Amphora again. read more

What an amazing shop. Just walking in the door peaks your curiosity. When my friends and I discovered the store, we were greeted by a friendly lady who warmly welcomed us, and was more than happy to answer all our questions. We were offered the opportunity to attend one of their classes on everything olive oil and vinegar. The class was hosted by the owner, and included a light dinner and a comprehensive slide show, topped off with tasting various olive oils. Store employees were there to help serve. The education on olive oil was fascinating and will be valuable when making future purchases. A great array of gift items were displayed as well. My friend Donna gave me a taste of one of her vinegar's as she knows I'm a big fan of Sparkling Waters. I was hesitant at first and then I tried her Peach flavored vinegar with the Sparkling water. So good and odd at the same time I wasn't sure upon my first sip. I took another and confirmed that I loved it. I went to the Amphora location in Danville and tried many flavors and came home with 3. This place is absolutely wonderful. My friend introduced me to this place, because she is a regular. She uses the balsamic vinegar with her soda stream, in lieu of soda for her kids. Since my kids love soda, I thought I'd give it a try. My girls loved it, says it tastes like soda. And it has a ton of healthy antioxidants! The man who worked there was very kind and helpful. I am SOOO happy we stumbled upon this place. I went to a similar store in Monterey and was running low on our balsamic vinegars and olive oils and was like oh man I guess we need to take another trip to Monterey! But lo and behold, there's a store right down the street. So happy! The lady helping was so kind and they were even dog friendly! Such an awfully rude experience! My family was very excited to visit this place on a Saturday evening. We arrived at 5:46 and the woman working very rudely and immediately exclaimed that she was closely in 5 minutes with a tone that made us feel very unwelcomed. We kindly told her we just wanted to look at the new store. She claimed she was confused by the time but she clearly had almost 15 minutes until. When we tried to ask her questions about the business she would not make eye contact or look up from what she was doing. She kept pressing about being careful about her freshly mopped floors and how she was leave. I truly hope her day gets better and her attitude is adjusted. read more

A personal favorite of mine. The staff is so friendly & knowledgeable. They have recipes for new and delicious ways to incorporate their products into your daily, cooking & entertaining routines. This is a Bay Area, locally/family owned store & the owner knows everything about what they are selling. I love the olive oil & other cooking products . They offer gluten free & vegan products for cooking as well. It's the only oil & vinegar I am cooking with and using in my kitchen. They offer infused oils/vinegars too. Highly recommend! Phenomenal product, but really nasty attitude towards customers. The attitude of toxic is all over this place. I am typically easy-going and hard to offend, but this place is too much, even for my standards. Especially, when I paid in excess of $100 for olive oil and vinegar products in one stop. Yes, love the product, but will not be back. How people treat me is more important to me at this stage of my life. mixed feelings here. We actually visited this shop twice on the same day and had two drastically different experiences. The gentleman that worked the morning shift was fantastic. Knowledgeable about the products, eager to help, and super friendly. We picked up a couple of bottles to take home based on his recommendation. After lunch, my parents wanted to go back to the store to pick up a few additional bottles as a gift for their friends since we had such a great time in the morning and wanted to support the business. Initially the female cashier was pleasant, with out us asking she offered to gift wrap the 4 bottles. Things went south pretty quickly when my parents asked for a separate bag for each of the bottles since all 4 were in the same paper bag. Cashier exasperatedly shared that they don't usually provide a bag and tissue paper for a single bottle... Fair enough, we didn't ask for the gift wrapping, you offered. She gave us the cold shoulder the rest of the time, and was short and rude to my parents. Her goodbye to us sounded like good riddance. Very uncomfortable and we felt like such a burden for asking for a few extra bags after spending over $100 on olive oils and balsamic (sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud). If you have to charge for gift wrapping, then just do so. It's so tacky to mistreat customers over a $.50 craft bag and a couple sheets of tissue paper. Just totally classless and frankly, I was embarrassed to have recommended the shop to my parents. Such a shame, we always try to stop by this shop when we are in Danville with friends and family, but this will be our last time here. read more

Loved Amphora in Danville! Went with a group of ladies and were happy that Nate Bradley led us through tastings of amazing olive oils and balsamic vinegars. I thought I knew a little about olive oils, but not near what I learned as Nate provided us the history and progression of olive oils. This company is the oldest continuously-owned olive oil company in the U.S. That is impressive as were the taste of the oils and vinegars. It was fun tasting which oil and vinegar pair well.
