Delicious food, wonderful service, and homey atmosphere…read more *Dear Yelp, here are a few more sentences to meet your new "85 characters"requirement & for the people who enjoy reading reviews rather than getting outside & experiencing what this world has to offer. Remember what life was like before yelp? We just went places 'cause they looked cool, tried restaurants 'cause they looked nice or someone recommended it... but now, most of us go on Yelp. Why? To read novel length reviews from wannabe journalists? NO WAY! Most of us just want to look at the menu before hand, check out the prices, & know if we'll get food poisoning or not. Either way, you read this long rant, thanks, I hope I made you laugh :)

Went in the middle of a weekend afternoon, and surprisingly the place still has a few parties eating there, even though it was during the slow hours between lunch and dinner. Family style restaurant, small-ish seating area with booth seating on the sides and tables in the middle. Chips and salsa are complementary. Server recommended the Tres Maria plate that have skirt steak, chicken breast and bacon-wrapped shrimp. We got that and also the beef taquitos. Taquitos were tasty, has a little of a crisp on the outside, agreeable flavors. The Tres Marias plate was pretty big, and has beans and rice as well, and comes with tortillas to wrap up the ingredients. Tasted pretty decent. Before tip it was $45 which was reasonable for the food.

And coming from California, I've had my fair share of Mexican food. This place did not disappoint. The carnitas plate was plenty generous. The meat was tender and slow roasted, you can really taste the porky goodness in every bite. The fish tacos were fresh and didn't feel heavy. The rice was flavorful and the chips and salsa can rival that of any California-based Mexican mama. The portions were huuugge! The drinks were strong. The ambiance was welcoming. The service was on point. If I was visiting longer, I would've loved to come back here a second time to try other dishes. But there's always a next time!

First of all, this used to be an Italian restaurant. When it reopened as a breakfast place I asked…read moreif the reason they kept the same name was so they didn't have to pay for a new lit sign, and I was told that was correct--makes sense as those signs aren't cheap. The problem here is that in keeping the same name the reviews and overall rating reflect both the previous Italian and the current breakfast restaurants, which doesn't provide a realistic overall view of it. It's also why it's still being reported as closed. This might be more of a Yelp problem but it's still nevertheless a problem. Regardless, I gave two stars and that's being generous. The waiter was friendly and the service prompt but that's only a small part of the equation. The main breakfast dishes contain four eggs which sounds generous but really, who eats four eggs in one sitting? The only "light" options are for "seniors and children"; there was no omelet offered there and those options are only for one egg. Weird that the choices are too much or too little. I was able to ask for a two-egg omelet and the waiter was gracious by offering me a $2 discount though the cook still used four eggs. That would have been fine but what I got wasn't a traditional omelete as everyone knows it. I asked for link sausage and swiss cheese and it was really a kind of scramble--it wasn't an omelet at all, it was flat and the combination of eggs and cheese seemed to lead me to believe that the eggs may have been underdone. There was either way too much cheese or it was of inferior quality (maybe both). Either way it was unappetizing and I barely ate any of it. For a breakfast of this size I would expect two pieces of toast and got only one. I asked for the hash browns to be crispy and they weren't. My wife got the senior scramble with cheddar and bacon, and the menu wasn't clear about the meat--she thought the bacon would be on the side but it was actually in the scramble. She said it was just ok. With the tip it came to close to $50 (with two cups of coffee, which was ok), which is still too much for a breakfast that was lacking in quality. The menu is enormous and the other breakfast and lunch items sounded interesting, but this first experience doesn't instill a lot of confidence for anything else they offer, to me at least. Readers may feel differently based on the other, more positive reviews for the breakfasts seen here but based on this visit we probably won't be back, and if nothing else be forewarned that what they call an omelet just isn't.

The restaurant overlooks Lake Tye, and there is a patio area where you can sit outside and enjoy the view, especially around sunset. As soon as we walked in, we noticed a station to the left where fresh handmade tortillas were being offered. We decided to pass because we did not want to fill up before dinner, but it was a nice touch. We were greeted right away and seated in the bar area, where we still had a nice view of the lake through the windows. We were brought chips, salsa, and refried beans to start. My husband ordered the wet burrito and clearly enjoyed it because he ate every bit of it. I ordered the fried tilapia with rice and salad, and I thought it was excellent. The tilapia was cooked perfectly, and the rice was especially flavorful. We also had a couple of mixed drinks. They definitely make them strong, but they were very good. As the sun started to set, I stepped outside for some fresh air and was able to enjoy the view over the lake. It made for a really nice ending to the evening. If you are in the area and in the mood for Mexican food with a view, El Paraiso is definitely worth checking out.
