They have root vegetables that no other stores in the area will have. Their Spanish food is very tasty.

Clean and friendly store. Has everything one would need for "South of the Border" cuisine.

Sound the alarms, we've got a new local business alert! Maw's Country Kitchen is located in a tiny…read morestrip mall on Blanding Blvd., across from Vystar Credit Union. They're serving up down-home country breakfast and brunch eats, all made from scratch. It's a cozy establishment (7 tables, 2 outdoor tables, and 3 counter seats), yet not at all cramped. Although they've been open for less than a year, i could immediately tell that Maw's has earned its share of regulars, with customers and staff addressing one another by first name. The character of the restaurant is as the name suggests...the sights, the sounds, the aromatic fragrances of southern delights such as fried chicken and smothered pork chops wafting from the kitchen...all reminiscent of a family meal at Grandma's house. Noms: Going back and forth between the breakfast and lunch menus, I decided to go with the open-face meatloaf sandwich meal, with mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese as my sides. The tender meatloaf was dressed in a rich, brown gravy and was absolutely divine. The red-skinned mashed potatoes and luscious baked mac-n-cheese were the perfect accompaniments to the main course. I couldn't help but notice the dessert case calling to me from across the room, so I snuck over and took a couple of pics before i ordered a generous slice of carrot cake to take home and devour while marathoning "The Queens Gambit." How was it? To sum it up...addicting and i want more. The carrot cake was equally fabulous. Stop by Maw's Country Kitchen and show some love and support to one of the newest additions to our local business scene! The staff greeted every customer with smiles and warmth, so thumbs up to them, and a big thank you! Till next time, my fellow Yeeps, thanks for reading, SUPPORT your local businesses, and till next time...SYOY!

The arepas were perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The beans were simultaneously simple and complex. The sauce that comes with them was a perfect match. The tostones were large and crispy - not overly dense nor mushy. The music and overall ambiance was chef's kiss. I am excited to go back soon!

We got on the Old…read moreTrolley Tour (informative but overpriced) and decided to head out to De Leon Cocina for lunch. We got off the trolley at Stop 20, National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, and were going to walk to the restaurant. Unbeknownst to us, there was no crosswalk to cross the busy Ponce de Leon boulevard. Mom isn't as spry as she once was so we didn't risk crossing without a crosswalk, so we had to walk another 1/4 or so to the nearest crosswalk then doubled back to the restaurant. Located in the The Ponce St. Augustine hotel, the restaurant is just to the left of the main doors. We had to wait a bit to get seated as the lone server had to clean a table first. Service was slow. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo (medium), my wife tried their Pork de Leon with fries and my mom opted for the Inca bowl. Did I say service was slow? Our orders weren't synched up. My order and my wife's sandwich were served first and we had to wait a few minutes before my mom's dish was served. My wife liked her sandwich and fries although she thought the shredded pork was a bit dry. My mom liked the flavors of her dish, with tender cuts of meat and smoky soy sauce flavor. The Bistec a Caballo had decent flavors BUT that steak was tough, even ordered medium. I felt like I was cutting through shoe leather cutting it with the serrated knife. Slow service and a tough steak bumped our rating down. We just couldn't overlook the quality and/or preparation of my steak, even with good flavors. Lunch for 3 came out to just over $67 with tip. Oh yeah, they add a surcharge for credit card payments.
