The hall where the service took place was beautiful, besides sympathies, the most common thing I heard was about how great the place looked. They had a couple comfort animals running around and a staff member was always unobtrusively available. They made a wonderful slideshow out of the pictures we gave them. Digitized everything. The most touching part was a display they made, we had discussed interests, hobbies and such. They made a whole display out of the things we talked about with some pictures added on.

For a funeral home in which you would like to be taken care of at a very sad time, it is the worst experience I have ever had. They do not care about the fact you are saying goodbye to a loved one. I ordered a beautiful spray of flowers to be delivered, and when the flowers arrived, the funeral home sent the flowers back because they are not what they wanted. Even though it was the family's wishes for an full open casket, hours before the showing, they closed half of the casket and told us they would never leave it open (even though that is what we were told and planned). When confronting the problem, the owners were very disrespectful. Therefore I beg you to please avoid this place. Go someplace else and say your goodbyes and prayers at a funeral home that will take care of your wishes. This place ruined saying goodbye to a very special family member.

He was kind, compassionate, and caring every step of the way. Fast forward to 2022, when my mother passed away, and then later that same year, my father. By that time, Leon had retired and Mitch Steinhorn had purchased the business. Mitch handled both my mother's and father's arrangements with the same grace, professionalism, and compassion our family had experienced for years. Four years later, when my aunt passed away, we once again turned to Amherst Memorial Chapel. Once again, Mitch guided our family through a difficult time with kindness, dignity, and genuine compassion. Our family is deeply grateful for the consistent care and support we have received over the years.

Since we live out of state the staff includes us in the mailings for the floral arrangements at various times of the year. They make sure every little detail is taken care of in our absence. That includes placing the arrangements at all the graves and then taking pictures of them and sending them to us! Not many cemeteries would do that. They have always been professional, trustworthy, and caring. We can't praise the Elm Lawn staff and maintenance crew enough. For us and our family they have gone above and beyond anything we could have imagined. Thank you Elm Lawn for everything you have done and continue to do in honoring our loved ones in your care. We greatly appreciate it. Christine Rice

I had already pre-planned it, all she had to do is write a check. I called the funeral home 2 days before the funeral just to make sure they had everything they needed. I highly recommend the John E Roberts Funeral Home for their meticulous organization that is personal and not perfunctory. Everyone on staff was genuinely warm and understanding. From coordinating church service, military honors with flag presentation and a bronze plaque at his gravesite for Veterans to the flowers on my father's casket (gorgeous white lilies and ranunculus) it was beautiful and understated. Our family didn't feel rushed or pressured at the wake or the service and burial. The personal service set it apart from other funeral homes: I'd been to two services for my grandmother and stepfather 10 and 15 years ago and they were cold and impersonal compared to John E Roberts Funeral Home.

The staff have been wonderfully kind and understanding. They walked us through the process from beginning to end answering every question. They helped take care of the obituary and other necessary paperwork. They never pressured us into anything more than what our beloved wanted and even went above and beyond to get the color casket we wanted. They even allowed arrangements for a family member to see her early. They set up a minister to come do a short service after the viewing. The home is warm and 'cozy' and not stuffy like some places I have been. They took extra precautions with Covid related issues so that we could have the maximum people and still be within the rules. Their prices seemed very fair and they go through everything so you never feel taken advantage of with something unexpected. In this time of sorrow it was nice to feel like someone genuinely cared and had the means to actually help in this helpless situation.
