This well maintained cemetery established in 1808 is a place of beauty, peace, and serenity. A quiet gathering of past generations at rest with all too many stories of life that would be inspiring to hear. Although today's visit was to remember mom on her last day, which found me alone in this beautiful location, I have always found the staff here to be superb caring people! It shows in the upkeep of the cemetery. A slow walk amongst the headstones and trees can bring a sensual spirit of peace. Amazing how in a well conceived resting place for the dead we can again find life. This two hundred year old cemetery may have its full contingent of resting souls but if you are feeling rushed in life ... you may find rest by walking in its peacefulness.

I felt at the end as if I had also made a friend with John as he was that close to me and guiding during this time. Well, the entire process can be very challenging. Thankfully before our Mother moved south she made her funeral arrangements with Comfort Funeral Home, South Wales, NY. Before she passed she kept reminding us that all we had to do when she finally "went over to be with Dad" was to pick up the phone and Comfort would do the rest- even from out of state. That's exactly what happened. There was a blizzard in Buffalo, there would be no funeral until spring. All arrangements were seamless from working with a Florida undertaker to transfer of Mom at the Buffalo airport once the snow cleared. We were kept informed every step of the way...even though we lived in 6 states from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts. During the wake and funeral our family and friends were given all the courtesy and support one would expect from a close friend. I highly recommend Comfort Funeral Home. It seemed obvious they had relationships with certain vendors who they strongly recommended. In fact, they were so insistent I would not be surprised if there was not kickbacks involved. Overall our experience that day and leading up to that day were average at best. My post today was strongly influenced by an experience I had in a public setting when the Funeral Director walked into a local bank and began berating and demeaning a bank employee because she DARED asking him for his credentials (federal & state regulations require this). He came across as rude, arrogant and entitled. His behavior was so rude and obnoxious that the bank employee had to interrupt my business with my banker to ask him to intercede. His demeaning vocabulary was loud enough, and deliberate, that the entire branch could hear him. He was quite pompous and proud of himself for almost bringing the bank employee to tears. I will NEVER do business with this company ever again and would encourage others to look elsewhere. His behaviors and attitude were inexcusable and offensive.
