I'm quite confused by why the some people consider this food "bad". The times that I have been here have been great. The servers are friendly and courteous of the customers. The food tastes about the same as Extapa, but I like the way the restaurant is laid out so I usually come here instead. Now for the meal part. The beans are pretty flavorful and for rice is guess it has some flavor. The vegetables are fresh-looking and can make me hungry sometimes just by looking at a picture. I would recommend starting out with something similar to what you'd order at Extapa or go for something simple. My husband and I used to come here every week and get margaritas, unfortunately their recipe must have changed. The last 3 or 4 times we've been there the quality has just plummeted, they taste watered down, too sweet and WAAAAAAY too much orange. It's really sad, I feel like the staff is good, the food has always been fine - not great not terrible, but the drinks were amazing. I'm disappointed, the change in their margaritas has made it so we really don't want to go any more. Their staff more Han make up for anything! Having recently returned from Mexico, I was hungry for some good Mexican food. On the advice of a friend, I had lunch at Amigo, but I am not likely to return. The bulk of the fajita plate was onions, possibly masquerading as chicken because it there was maybe about a half a dozen little chunks of chicken on the plate. And what little meat there was in the fajita entree was dry, hard, and over cooked. The entire meal had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. And I don't have Covid. The best part of the lunch were the deliciously fresh chips and salsa. Perhaps it is because we came towards the end of the lunch rush that the meal was so inferior (we were one of only two tables occupied in the place, but even so that is no excuse for fobbing off such inferior food onto a paying customer. read more

This place was awful. Actually, let me give you the pro's. Portion size was good and served hot. Taste was ok. Con's. Horrible service. We were greeted right away, but very downhill after that. Got our drinks in a timely manner, but my margarita was served with ice overflowing the container. Left very little room for the actual margarita. For context, there were a couple people at the bar at 7:30 pm. There were 2 groups in the booths and it looked like one group in the other side of the bar. Waitress gave us our drinks and said she would be right back with chips. We decided what we wanted to order and put our menus at the edge of the table to indicate we were ready to order. Waited. Waited. Waited some more. I told my husband the waitress must have forgotten about us. "Right back" meant 10 minutes. My drink was now gone. We ordered and the food came out hot and in a timely manner. Waitress dropped it off and didn't ask if we wanted another drink or anything else. Just warned, "Hot plates." And walked away. By this time, the people at the bar had left, 2 people in the booth behind us and the group still on the other side of the bar. The waitress never came back to check on us. No "How's your food?" "Would you like another drink?" No sign of her. I finally waved at the bartender and asked if he knew where our waitress was. He asked what we needed instead of telling us where she was or trying to send her over. I told him we would like some water, a diet coke and a couple of boxes. He got what we asked for and then nothing. Still no sign of our waitress. Only a couple people in the whole place. We stacked our boxes at the edge of the table. Moved all the dirty dishes and empty glasses to the edge of the table and I have my credit card in my hand. Finally, the waitress came back into the bar from outside with two guys. She looked at us and went on to the bar where the two guys sat down. I assumed she was getting our ticket. Nope, she just stood at the bar, laughing and talking with the guys she came in with. We waited, with credit card in hand, waiting to see how long it would take her to actually do her job and check on us. She never did. I finally waived her down. Once she saw me, she had to finish talking to the guys and continued to talk to them as she walked to our table. Then she asked what we needed. I asked for our bill. She brought it back and I handed her the card. I didn't look at the amount of the ticket because we just wanted to get out of there. So she squinted at the bill to tell me how much it was. We finally got our copy to sign. I left a very minimal tip, but honestly, she deserved nothing. I wrote, "Crappy Service" because management needs to know this waitress lost them additional drink sales and any future business from us. It was bad enough that I felt the need to post this review. I waitressed for years. It's not that hard to do your job correctly. I'll leave a 50% tip if you do your job well. Sometimes more. But take pride in your job and try to do a good job. Act like you care. Or you'll continue to get lousy tips. It's called customer service. But if you're happy hanging outside with the guys, I guess you're doing what you want. read more

The seating is awesome your choice of dark, medium, and light seating areas, even a large indoor patio that has an outdoor feel without the bad weather being a worry. Amigo - Mexican Near Me - Stanwood, Washington

We randomly came across this restaurant on a drive back to Vancouver from Portland. We were craving some Mexican food and had just passed by Seattle not long ago. We spotted the "Amigo" sign from the highway and decided to take the next exit to check it out. FYI - the restaurant is actually another 5 mile drive from the exit. I came here with a party of 5 and we were all pleasantly surprised at how well the restaurant was decorated. There are actually two parts to Amigo: 1) a bar area (which looks a bit dingy, to be honest); and 2) a sit-down restaurant area. The sit-down restaurant area has a "patio" (which is where we sat) that backs out onto an open area, of which the walls are life-size murals of the streets of Seattle from decades ago. The open area also leads to a very vintage-looking movie theatre that I would be interested in checking out if I was ever back there. The staff was very friendly. As soon as we sat down, we were offered two baskets of nachos to munch on (along with a side of salsa and and bean paste). We decided to order several things to share: Asada Burrito, Brocheta, and their award-winning tacos (it comes with 5 tacos; I forget the name of the dish!). The food was tasty and hit the spot. I've had better Mexican food, but I would definitely come here again. The Brocheta was very interesting - it resembled a Chinese teriyaki dish. The Asada Burrito is MASSIVE; I'm so glad we decided to share this. Their tacos are served on flour tortillas and comes with a large grilled jalepeno pepper (very delicious) on the side. The restaurant has some specials that we thought were noteworthy. On Mondays, they have a dinner and movie special where you can get a free ticket to the move theatre (that's next door) if you order one of their fajitas. Had lunch there today with a buddy I'm not a regular at all but this is my second visit I had the Carne Asada and it was totally dry tasteless and not a good lunch The portion of rice and beans served is laughable. I'm guessing my Carne aSada might've been 4 ounces of meat at the most. I basically had a 20 ounce beer and lunch and left hungry I will move this place to the absolute bottom of my list of places I will eat at the next time I'm in Stanwood Our server was pretty lame also came to the table once to take the order came to the table a second time to deliver the food and that was it and they were not busy at all in the middle of the day on a Thursday when we were there I imagine any other restaurant you go to Intown would probably be better food and a better experience than this read more

Hard pass on this place. Went with a friend, ordered nachos to start out that were subpar at best. We both ordered the same burritos, food came and we took a couple bites and realized how horrible it was. I told the waitress I was sorry but I can't eat it, she apologized and took the burrito. Got the bill and they tried taking 50% off my $15 burrito that I sent back. They were very rude about me telling them there was no way I'm paying for it. We're new to Stanwood and we tried Amigo for the first time tonight. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered into such a delightful building with such interesting decor. It was not something we were expecting. We got the chips and salsa and the little cup of warm bean dip, definitely a surprise there. My husband ordered Camarones al Mojo de Ajo, I ordered the Seafood Chimichanga. Both dinners arrived on super hot plates and they were both excellent, but way to big to eat the whole thing! I enjoyed the salad that came with mine but there was no way I could finish it. We came home with leftovers and we'll definitely come back again. read more

After having not dined out for a long while due to the pandemic it is such a pleasure to be back! As mentioned in a previous post, Jose and Angie are very kind and gracious hosts...and I have never been disappointed in a meal here. A couple of things I neglected to mention are the excellent Cadillac margaritas, and the pool table in the bar area. If you are in the mood for a laugh, watch for two little old ladies attempting to play pool while giggling and modifying rules as warranted. We have mandated that 'mulligans' are (im)perfectly acceptable for women over 65. We now consider ourselves 'irregular regulars' :))) read more

I use to come here off and on, especially for for drinks and maybe some appetizers. However, I do not think I will ever be able to eat here again. The food has gone down steadily over the past year and the inside of the restaurant is honestly gross. You can always smell some form of mold or something unappetizing, so if insist on going, sit out the courtyard area. However, I went to lunch with my mom a few months back and ended up getting food poisoning. This is the first time their food as made me kind of sick (just generally not feel well), which is why I basically stopped going their on my own accord. However, I know quite a few people who like it, like my mom, so I said okay and met her there. I have never been so sick in my life. I had to take 3 days off of work because I threw up nonstop for over a day. I truly cannot bring myself to every going back in there again. I knew the quality of food wasn't that great to begin with and that it had slowly been getting worse and worse but I never figured I'd get food poisoning...Guess I was wrong. :( read more

Amigo is the best of both worlds; it's a family restaurant, with a funky indoor/outdoor atmosphere, but it's also a bar, with a dance floor, and a DJ, and a cool owner who does fancy tricks with bottles and glasses. Jose, the owner, is a friendly guy who knows his customers by name and drink, and puts on an almost nightly show in the bar to keep them entertained. Amigo has huge screens and several TVs for game watching, and it's definitely the choice of most locals for game watching and weekend drinking. Aside from having a great bar area, Amigo also has pretty decent food. Baskets of chips come with beans and salsa, and the refills keep coming all meal long. Food can sometimes be a bit on the bland side, but not terrible. Prices are pretty comparable to what you'd find at most Mexican restaurants. I think the best thing about Amigo is that it's almost like two establishmens in one. One of the family, and one for the adults. read more

My parents live on Camano Island and I have been to Amigos several times and it keeps getting progressively worse!! I think that the only reason that they stay in business is because there are not alot of restaurants to choose from on the Island and in Stanwood. Bland, blah food wilted lettuce, and dry food all around. The waiters barely come around and this is if the restaurant is busy or slow. To get some extra salsa is like pulling teeth! Just finished off round two of leftovers from my dinner at Amigo two nights ago, which means... it must be time to go BACK. Had the veggie fajitas; forget everything you know about veggie fajitas! The sizzling skillet that arrived was chock-full not of the big chunks of grilled veggies I expected (always yummy), but veggies chopped small - even cauliflower was thrown in there, I think - swimming in an amazingly fragrant red sauce. I had to adjust my expectations, but it didn't take long for me to be converted; the sauce's flavor was complex and satisfying. (Be warned... this is not (by far) the healthy choice ordinary fajitas can be. Lots of oil in that beautiful sauce.) The fajitas came with standard fixins - beans, rice, lettuce tomato, guacamole & sour cream, and cost around $12. (And did I mention I made THREE meals out of it? That's a bargain!) To accompany my meal, I (of course) ordered a margarita; if that's your standard with Mexican food, do request one made with Don Julio Blanco tequila... I'll never be the same again. Trust me on this... it was like I'd never tasted tequila before. We had a party of five, and all were equally impressed with their meals - none of which was over $14. To add, even at the late hour (nearly 9 when we arrived) our server was ultra-friendly (maybe a little too much so at times!), the salsa was kick-booty, the atmosphere was unique and comfortable. The service was friendly, and the free chips and salsa were absolutely delicious. The chips were freshly made and the salsa had a little kick, plus cilantro and all the wonderful things in good home made salsas. The location is actually pretty fun. It's in a weird movie-set like space, with wild west building facades all around, and a movie theatre across the way so people watching is pretty fun. Unfortunately the main courses were rather bland, and my vegetarian girlfriend's burrito had a piece of chicken in it! (Oh, and it was filled with cauliflower and broccoli... pretty strange.) I had pork and steak enchiladas and the meat was drier than I would have liked, and not especially flavorful. But if I lived near Stanwood, I would definitely give this place a shot if I were heading to the theatre. The food isn't great, but the experience is pretty fun. read more

Not even that busy in the bar. Asked for menu's, never received them. Waited for 30 minutes before we got drinks. John Taffer would be offended. Bartender was rude. Ended up getting Taco Time. The owner came out and was extremely rude about our friends service dog she has for her epileptic seizures, that he kept calling an emotional support dog. He said that she needed to provide a license when it was displayed on the dogs vest. Bartender said that it could be fake, even though it wasn't. Never coming back and neither should you. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the Great White Snohomish County. The bartender Jose is tons of fun and will always go out of his way to make your night memorable. Plus he likes it when you drink. We wanted to give this place a 2nd try after a poor experience a couple years ago. It's close to home and we want to support our local businesses. Unfortunately, again food was not good though the service is wonderful. Fajitas were awful-extremely greasy, overcooked and slathered in some kind of over-seasoned, tomato-based sauce. Went to Amigo because my Mi Cocina was closed so I expected to pay more, just wanted tacos and beer and my daughter some pork enchiladas. Simple enough right? Was brought the wrong type of enchiladas 5 minutes before the tacos, kitchen staff came out to fix the problem because many tables got wrong order. So thought everything was okay, but no- the pork not cooked long enough and was very tough/dry. Add to this was a waitress not friendly, could not bring any water even tho we asked- actually could barley be found, overheard multiple tables complaining about beverages. Overcharged our bill to boot. Bad night for this crew, not worth spending 50 bucks for. Lesson learned read more

A couple years ago this restaurant would've got five stars from me. I don't know what happened but their food amounts of gone down and their prices have gone up quite a bit. The atmosphere is still as festive as ever though and it has a very nice party environment with it it is full. I have noticed a decline in their business as well. We had a predictably great dinner on a recent visit to Stanwood to visit my mom. Always enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff. These guys do a great job at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, my wife left her glasses on the table when leaving, which we didn't realize until we were on the plane headed back to San Francisco the next day. A call to the restaurant and the owner, Jose, volunteered to mail the glasses back to us--no charge. Talk about service !!!! The glasses arrived a few days later. We've got great restaurants here in San Francisco, but very few that will go the extra yard for their customers as Amigo does. Looking forward to our next trip north. read more

Late review. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life at this restaurant. I sat at a table in the bar area with a friend. To start with the table was sticky and pretty gross. The waitress eventually came over and wiped down the table, handed us menus, and ignored us for 15-20 minutes. My menu was moldy . I should have run for the hills at that moment... I didn't, I actually ordered food. Sadly, it wasn't what I ordered but I was starving so I ate it anyway. Big mistake. I felt sick almost immediately and it lasted until the next day. Absolutely not. I came in to have a couple drinks and food tonight with my husband. I waited 10 minutes for my first beer, and then minutes between asking for a second and a third. I got a seafood chimichanga with barely any seafood. Lots of carrots, celery, onions and cheese. My bartender wasn't friendly and would ask if I wanted another drink and make us wait 10 minutes for one. I'm a server myself so I understand if you're busy, but that wasn't the case. This is a great place to stop off for a drink with nachos and salsa. Had the Carne Asada and it was cooked perfectly. Friendly people, great food and drinks. Jose always make sure that things are running smoothly and that the patrons are being taken care of. They have raffles and bean bag tosses during the Seahawk games which is fun. I don't expect to much nowadays and this restaurant wasn't much. We were just there for Taco Tuesday, which I've never been. We were served 4 tacos (2 hard - 2 soft) and in order to get the special you had to order a beverage, which we did. First of all these taco were worse then my grand kids make when they come over. Flavorless and just thrown together, the soft tacos only had the meat in them, nothing else. I ate 1 hard taco and nothing else, it was horrible. Second, our waiter never even came by to see how we were doing or inquire why my plate was full. He showed no interest in us at all. Third, they charged us $2.50 for a small dish of sour cream. I can buy a pint for $1.79. I felt that the price hike was horrible. It wasn't guacamole, it was sour cream. Fourth, when we paid our bill mine came to $11.46, he brought me back $8.50, if he would've told me that they didn't deal in pennies then I would've supplied one, or he could have brought back $8.55 and taken the 1 cent loss instead of stealing my 4 cents. He did that to all 3 of us. I wasn't heartless, I still left him $1 tip, but I'll never return. Wish I had something better to report. read more
