Amicus was incredible. I highly recommend this to anyone in Cork! They had an incredible selection and beautiful layout. There was three floors to the restaurant! The waitstaff we're friendly and attentive. The meal was fantastic and I am still dreaming of the chocolate cake with fresh cream. For my meal I got the steak with chips! So good!! Not too much to say - handy location, nice decor, possibly a bit pricey if you don't do the lunch deal (which is pretty good though). Food was good, service was decent, and we got in and out for lunch with no problems! The superfood salad which I got was very tasty and, I thought, quite a bit different than the usual "98% spinach, 2% healthy things, 100% microscopic" that one generally sees. It was a very decent size, had generous proportions of quinoa and beetroot, and the rocket was nice (if possibly too much for my taste) as a change! I wish they'd do another green rather than JUST rocket but that's personal preference. I mentioned this to the server and she said she was sure they'd be happy to sub half spinach next time I came through which was grand. Coffee was hot and came quickly and tasted decent which is what I needed at the moment. Both my friends' food was obviously good as it disappeared pretty quickly upon arrival! Good place - wouldn't necessarily be a regular but it served the purpose for a late lunch in the afternoon! read more

This is by far the worst place I have eaten for the whole year living in Cork and trying different restaurants. Burgers were completely mediocre, you can easily get better for 1/3 of the price anywhere else in the city. When it comes to the pizza - plainly bad base. The toppings were good and it was well seasoned but the pizza dough tasted awful, I'd compare it to a shoe sole. We waited forever for the meal and when it arrived it was terrible. Definitely not ever going back there. read more

Group went for dinner on Saturday night. Place was packed. Service was slow even making allowances for group. Took half hour to figure out they were out of one of the requested beers. Main course (lemon sole) was not good; fish was far from fresh; no real flavour from rest of the dish. Better half did enjoy her steak main course. Desserts slow to arrive and not worth the wait - a dull crumble lacking in sweetness. Not overly expensive but not happy to pay hard-earned money for poor food. read more

I'd suggest the staff at Amicus sample their food some time, it might lead to some changes. Much of the lunch menu seems to have been "creatively inspired" by the Café Bar Deli up the road. The last time I was here, I ordered a "gourmet sandwich" that was really neither. It was sandwich fillings spilled over two chunks of bread the size of doorstop novels. I've been here more times than I can count and I have never had any problems. The service has always been decent, they're always good to seat any drop ins, and the food is delicious and well-portioned. I always struggle with the menu because there are so many choices I'd like to try, but my favourite and my go-to is the chicken salad-- I get a large portion as a main and I'm always stuffed! They have a great drinks list too, and lots of nice options for non-alcoholic drinks. The cocktails are a little expensive but you'll have that sometimes. read more

Went for lunch today, tomato soup was very nice, quite different to the usual run of the mill tomato soup. Ordered the chicken pate - I got 6 pieces of doorstop bread and a tiny pot with pate. The sauce was in an identical pot (same size). For a condiment sized pot with pate, it looked very mean for €7.50. However it tasted well. The menu is uninspired and executed with maximum indifference. The kitchen's output is surpassed in failure only by the service. The self-service touch screens at McDonalds have as much personality and are more likely to deliver your order correctly and all together. Go elsewhere. read more

This place is pure disappointment. As Irish restaurants are often hit and miss, this is definitely a miss. It's trying to do too many things I think - none of which it seems to be doing very well. It also seemed disorganised. For €50: - I had dry, stale pitta bread and dry chunky chips for my chicken creole dish - a €11 meal that you can get at KCs in Douglas for €5 and its far tastier. My girlfriend had mussels and the bread platter - they were average at best. The half bottle of wine we got was the best thing about the meal. - We got someone else's ketchup, mayo and water - which is fine, once someone else's lettuce isn't in there too, which it was. Also one of the servers tried to steal the ketchup and mayo off the table when I was mid mouthful. - The service was a shambles - why can't Irish restaurant managers just assign one server to one, two or three tables instead of making the entire staff run around like they haven't a clue.......we got served by 6 different people for dinner - none of them were rude, but none of them had any clear responsibility for anything or any table. read more

AMICUS (not a Spanish restaurant!!!!) (Paul Street) 021 4276455 My first impressions on entering Paul Street's Amicus, after a long absence, were good. There was a jolly welcome and we were escorted to our lunchtime table upstairs. Seating was comfortably and the place looked good and clean. The service was friendly and smooth throughout and we were asked if everything was okay two or three times which is about sufficient. The food was excellent. I went for the specials, I often do. Started with a Celery and Bacon Soup, a hearty bowl of freshness with plenty of tasty bits in there. Picked the main course off the board: Lamb with vegetables, garlic and rosemary mashed potato and a red win jus. Everything here was spot on, particular the vegetables which were cooked to a t, indeed a degree or two better than in a recent dish at Market Lane where they were a touch too hard. They really have a huge menu here, huge choices and some bargains to be had. The drink list is also extensive and they sell red wines by the glass. I picked the De Gras Cabernet Sauvignon and this deep red medium bodied Chilean was great value at €4.95. The bill for two (2 starters, 2 mains and 2 wines) came to €42.80. Would be quite willing to go back there again for an evening meal. read more

Short review this. Went here for breakfast when in need of something to restore us after the night before. Turned out very well - nice brunch selection of food (this was a Sunday by the way), including pancakes, hangover fry, and eggs benedict etc. Nice to see that (lots of places don't bother with a real brunch offering). The food was good - ideal for our needs and did the trick. Washed down with lots of coffee and tea (half decent coffee), it really fit the bill. - stopped here for coffee and cake - Table was covered in sticky liquid and cigerette ash - waitress brought menu out but did not clean table - on menu it stated to ask serving staff what the selection of freshly baked cakes and desserts were - asked waitress who said she would just get us a dessert menu - menu was brought but it contained the same information as previous menu - when I questioned what the cakes were, again, waitress squinted through window into restaurant and stated that she wasn't sure what they were but they are all in at the bar, i.e. telling us to go inside and check. - After taking a closer look at the specials board inside, it also stated here to ask the serving staff what the cakes/desserts were - I just ordered off the current menu as this was turning into a bit of a joke - we ordered a tiramisu and a chocolate brownie sundae with 2 coffees - my coffee arrived and half of it was in the saucer, the waitress didn't say a word, just dumped it on the table and walked off - the chocolate brownie was basically a brick. My spoon couldn't break through it as it was so hard - it was drowned in a gallon of cream, I assume this was done in the hope that it would soften the brownie sufficiently to make it edible. Needless to say, this failed - We sat there for about 20 minutes, trying to get the attention of servers passing us by, repeatedly - eventually one person came to clear our table and I advised that I wanted to send the brownie back as it was inedible - he seemed offended but said hesitantly that he would sort this out with the manager - 15/20 minutes went by and there was no sign of anyone, manager or other staff - eventually I got the attention of the same server and asked for the bill, which he went in to arrange - I could see the till area from where I was sitting and could see the manager and his 'bad attitude' expression when the waiter requested the bill. They had a nice chat at the till before the manager brought it out - I have never before experienced a manager bring a bill and not offering an apology and attempting to walk away until I asked, "did the staff fill you in on the situation" - Honestly, the manager's physical reaction made me afraid that he was going to verbally if not physically attack myself and my partner - I felt so uncomfortable explaining my experience, advising that we have been there on a number of occasions and liked it, but this time was terrible - The half hearted apology arrived and I wasn't charged for the brownie - The only reason that I have given 2 stars instead of 1, is because the tiramisu that arrived was nice. To sum up my experience of Amicus this time, poorly trained waiting staff in terms of waiting skills. Terrible attitudes and work ethic, but given that the manger acted as he did towards us, I am not surprised that this poor work ethic and bad attitude has trickled down through the other staff. No care given to the quality of food served, e.g. coffee spilled, not replaced, no apology, not cleaned up, 1 dessert was about a month old and so hard that it might require a visit to the dentist after eating it. Would strongly recommend against eating here until they sort out the standards in terms of cleanliness, staff and food. read more

Place seemed really nice when I got there which was near christmas, but because of it being near a holiday we tried ordering and they were out of food for most of the menu. I shortly walked out having me denied to order about 4 dishes of food because they were all out. Should have been more prepaired since it ws a holiday coming up and I mark them low for that. 2 stars because it was a nice place but awful service. read more

The extensive menu, featuring Irish classics like mussels and stew, a number of Italian items like their pasta and pizza ranges, and an impressive array of international dishes such as curries, satays and fajitas, thus ensuring that even a large group with varied tastes will be able to find something they like. And with prices ranging from a very reasonable €10.00 to €14.00, you're not likely to get a better feed in the city centre for less. They've also opened a tapas bar upstairs. However, due to its quality food and excellent value prices, it fills up quite quickly, and unfortunately doesn't accept bookings, so you may occasionally need to wait - however, the ambience and the food make it worth it! read more
