We were taken here by my parents for dinner for our anniversary. To start for appetizers we ordered fried mozz egg rolls chili and French onion soup. The egg were good but very juicy from their fillings. The chili resembles one that would be on hot dogs. The fried mozz was just ok. For main meals we order the two different risottos. Prime ribs and burger. All meals were quite good. My only issue was it took a long time for everything but I will defend they were slammed so I think the kitchen was overwhelmed. Stopped in on the way home from picking up some Christmas gifts. We sat at the bar, and the place was freezing. Other patrons at the bar also kept their coats on. Despite us asking the friendly bartender if she would turn up the heat, she only responded that it's always either really hot or cold in there, but did nothing to remedy the situation. The thermostat was visible and I could have walked over myself. It read 67! The menu was large and the food was pretty good- my husband got the chicken pot pie special, which had dumplings rather than a crust. Very good! The drinks we good too. A new bartender came on as we were finishing up our meals. My husband mentioned the temperature to her and she immediately adjusted the thermostat. This is based on cocktails and an amazing salad! We had business in north haven, so I used yelp to find a local place with good reviews. Outside is a bit deceiving, looks like a house, but inside is beautifully remodeled and clean. The salad * romain salad , was enough to keep me coming back again and again. So tonight we tried Amici Tavern. It was suggested to us by a friend. Back in the day there used to a rib house called The Ambers. They were known for 2 things ....there ribs and their onion brick, not that garbage onion blossom thing. The onion brick is breaded sliced onions fried in fry basket to form the brick. Sadly, The Ambers has long been gone, until now! The Amici did the onion brick such honor, it was like I traveled back in time. The next venture to our meal was the chicken & waffles...something try everywhere I go. For awhile I had one place that couldn't hold a torch to any other chicken & waffles I had. However, tonight The Amici put out that places torch and fired up a new one. It's presentation alone was absolutely beautiful. The chicken moist and crunchy and the waffle savory and sweet. The pickled onions added a extra play on the sweet and salty. Now onto the staff.....this establishment has to have one the MOST attentive staffs I have ever seen. Everyone pitch in. They weren't like vultures hovering over you and pestering you. Our waitress was named JEN. She was extremely polite and friendly. Her service was A+ exceptional Executive Chef JULIE has to be one of the most passionate and talented chefs and chefs to watch (She's going places) in the CT area. Recently came here over the weekend based off all the other good Yelp reviews. Loved the popcorn at the beginning! My friend and started with the Zuppa Di Clams, which was delicious. My only gripe is that it would have been perfect had there been some bread on the side to soak up all the delicious stuff! I ordered a burger with fries, which was great and cooked perfectly. My friend had the filet mignon which was also cooked perfectly. He asked if he could swap the green beans for the creamed spinach which was featured as a side for another item. A little surprised that we were charged $5 to substitute a vegetable. That's a little disappointing Amici.... Nonetheless, we continued to dessert which was an apple fritter which ended up being fried apple slices with a salted caramel sauce. Amazing! We really enjoyed our time at Amici, but hoping they stop up charging $5 for spinach-that was a little ridiculous but we hope to come back soon. read more

Found Amici Tavern on Yelp after a failed stop at my original dinner destination. We were close to North Haven so I plugged it in and this was one of the first places that popped up. The driveway can only fit one car so you have to be careful entering/exiting and the parking area beyond that is fairly small. Upon entering the restaurant is clean and there is a good size bar area to the right and dining to the left. The bar area is open to the dining area but the noise level wasn't bad even with people mingling and music (classic rock) playing, I'd consider it moderate. We were greeted and seated quickly. The menu has a range of options in different price ranges for whatever you're in the mood for. We weren't in the mood for a heavy meal so I went with the shrimp tacos and the hubs had a steak and cheese, substituted the French fries for zucchini fries for a $2 up-charge. They gave us a fresh dish of warm popcorn while we waited for our entrees- it was perfectly salty, but not overly. We only waited about 15 min for our food. The tacos came with fries and a pickle. The fries were fresh cut potatoes(my fav kind of fries!) and were heavily peppered, which I was cool with but if you're not into that you might want to request otherwise. Husband enjoyed his steak and cheese grinder. The zucchini fries were cut thin and battered. They were tasty but a little in the oily side. The flavor of the zucchini gets a little lost since they are so thin. Both meals were more than filling and for less than $13 was a pretty good deal. We'll probably let be back to try the other entrees- overall good service and good food for the price point. I really wanted to like this place....so much so that I gave it a second try after a bad experience when it first opened. My husband and I went on a Friday at peak dinner time. Although the small parking lot was filled there were many open tables and we got right in. My husband and I both ordered drinks from their fall specials. I ordered the apple margarita (tequila, another kind of alcohol, apple cider and a cinnamon sugar rim) and my husband ordered a mule. I heard the bartender ask the other if they had apple cider...she said no just use juice. Instead of letting me know they didn't have cider she just made it without it. It was kind of strange that they didn't have cider since it was Friday night and there were at least 5 fall specials drinks that had this ingredient. My margarita appeared without the cinnamon sugar rim....so 2 of the 4 major ingredients in my drink were missing. I was pretty disappointed in my drink as was my husband in his mule. We decided to order apps....the nachos, wings, and bacon wrapped shrimp. The wings sounded amazing from the description on the menu but were a big soggy mess. I only ate a few because there's nothing worse than soggy chips. The wings were over cooked and didn't have any sauce thus not much flavor. All of the wings were edible except the last two (pictured). The bacon wrapped shrimp were just ok...the bacon wasn't crispy so they were also kind of soggy. All in all we were let down again and won't be coming back. We really enjoy the owners other property (cafe amici) and wanted to love the tavern too but it really didn't have much going for it in our opinion....the service wasn't great, the food and drinks weren't good either. read more

Go to this bar! I call it how it is. Hands down best local bar food. I live in Hamden. Moved from west haven. When I lived in west haven it was 744 hands down and I could not find anything for bar food when considering price in the equation that could touch 744 until I went to amici tavern. The food is obviously made mostly in house attention to detail shines through in the unique pairing of flavors virtually everything I've had in my two visits has offered. Service is great same girls basically each one all informative about food offer recommendations without being asked and never drop a check on a dirty table. Great job girls honestly management should treat you to a drink or somthing for what you do for the atmosphere there. You hold it down bigtime. The price, fabulous four apps and two drink totaled 38$ happy hour half price apps Nd drinks. Just mint thank you amici people. Go to this place I say again it's a gem of a place. Cheers! read more

Review based on food & service ~ busy but not super busy for an early dinner. Wraps and salads. Buffalo Chicken wrap & chicken ranch wrap ~ both sets of fries were cold. Salad was fine but came out well after the wraps. Service was way slooooooow with plenty of servers on. Was difficult for them to remember tables. I was with my kids and at one point they almost put a round of alcoholic drinks on our table. Been here before and food was ok. A bit pricey for what you get. 2 wraps, 2 apps, 1 salad, 1 dessert and 1 soda (3 waters). $88. Side note ~ because of Covid we sat under the tent out back ~ super buggy, music was way too loud and the highway is VERY loud. Maybe sitting on the front deck is better? Always enjoy a nice dinner from Amici! This is an establishment where it's better to act like a regular.. be confident and ask for what you want, they'll make it happen. Service is typically fine, keep in mind when they're busy it's because they're busy, not because they don't want you to have a refill or your food. The only small suggestion would be on the "to-go" orders. Forever a generous portion of the main meal and LOVE that bread is still provided but the salads are weak. Like two croutons and a lettuce ration like we are only allowed carbs kinda weak. Party of 4 and none of us enjoyed our entrees. Salmon: dried out, no flavor, no seasoning at all. Risotto: No flavor at all and my added salt and pepper could not save neither the salmon or risotto. The Blue cheese dressing had an off 'texture' and bland flavor. The chicken in the salad was also dry and tasted possibly from a pre-cooked, store bought packaged brand; and of course unseasoned. The avocado on top of the salad tasted Nothing like avocado because of the overwhelming lemon juice that it seemed to have been pickled in. For our meals, we ordered the veggie burger and short rib tacos. The food was not only fresh but had great flavor. The menu offers a great spin on pub/bar food. First, they do happy hour 2pm-6pm every day. And not just at the bar, but at the tables in the bar area. This means half priced apps and some drink deals I don't remember (I don't drink). And boy, are those appetizers delicious. We ordered: pretzels, cheeseburger and steak & cheese egg rolls, the quesadilla, and tachos (tater tot nachos). The pretzels were run of the mill soft pretzels with cheese sauce. But that's where the run of the mill stuff ended. The eggs rolls were amazing - so cheeses and delicious and crunchy. Personally, I think the steal and cheese ones were better, but that's not because the cheeseburger ones weren't good. Just, as my partner put it, the steak and cheese ones were abnormally delicious. The quesadilla was multi-layered and stuffed with all sorts of delicious stuff. And the tachos were yummy and topped with a sunny side up egg. I was seriously impressed. The staff was super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. And after ordering dinner to-go for someone else, our bill was still, somehow, only $40. I will, 100% be back! read more

Went to dine in last night and I wish I could comment on the food/drinks but we couldn't make it that far into the night when we received service that was so rude we had to get up and leave before ordering. The waitress (Jody) was abrupt and nasty towards me when I asked her a question on the menu if something was healthy and her response was "does it matter you're having vodka". The place has good food. I won't deny that. And a homey feel, even decent waitstaff at times. I won't go on a tangent to elaborate how horrible they are to their customers because they're probably not.... However do yourself a favor and don't go here while covid is in affect. If you order takeout, right when you park and walk up it says. "Takeout stay at this window" today I ordered 2 meals. $58. To go. I waited outside a window, in the rain for 7 minutes before an employee whom saw me within the first minute even bothered to open it. Need I say more? She opened it after she saw me waving and looking in after I was getting rained on for more than 5 minutes, then gives me an attitude. "I saw you, I was just busy". Okay, well if you guys haven't hired someone to wait by the takeout window with capital letters written on it "Take out orders wait by this window" to the point where customers get soaked because you're busy while I'm watching my food which is behind glass two feet in front of me get cold for 7 minutes than you should welcome masked customers inside. They're still customers. Don't treat them like dogs. I get it the drive in style of takeout may seem convenient during Covid-19..... however their's a reason no one else besides fast food vendors are utilizing that method of takeout exchange. I gave her a two dollar tip on a $58 two entree tab for leaving me waiting out back near a window to get soaked. Heard this was a new spot so my friend and I tried it out for dinner and drinks. My experience: -Solid draft beer selection (not too many options, but they're good options. Having Sip of Sunshine & DuVig Brown Ale is a thumbs up!) -Great food. I enjoyed the Tavern Burger and their fries are awesome. I'm actually eating my leftover fries as I write this. -Friendly staff -TVs at the bar -The interior looks newly renovated and has a front deck for warmer temps. -Parking lot in the back, but if that fills up - seems like street parking is allowed. My mother and I came here on a whim, and I am so glad we did. The nachos are life changing, they are so different but absolutely perfect. Mom got chowder, I got French onion soup, both perfectly executed. For our entrees we ordered chicken and waffles and chicken fajitas, respectively. The chicken in both cases was perfectly cooked, juicy and delicious. They make the fajita shells on premise!!!! How great is that!?! I've never been to this restaurant. Took a look at the menu....didn't see not one entre that I want for dinner. We ordered three appetizers, wings, brussel sprouts and their very own "nachos that will change your life".....wings we're at best so-so, brussel sprouts were better than ok.... And the nachos didn't come close to changing anything....not even my opinion of this "Tavern". Our server was polite and professional, however when asked a question, she referred the answer to her boss, who came back and asked "somebody have a question about the menu"?.....less than professional in our mind. The nachos are indeed life changing. We highly suggest them. They have this certain lightness as far as nachos go. The sauces on the nachos were AMAZING. The wait staff was super attentive. I first went to Amici Tavern about six months ago and I continue to go back regularly. Its my go to spot when friends are in town or just when we want a good casual lunch or dinner. It's just a really great spot - good beer selection, solid range of apps, and a nice variety of entrees including salads and sandwiches. I love how they present the food on little wooden boards and metal trays. It's casual yet modern, and the bar and patio area are great areas to dine and relax. I also like the back room space for a quiet lunch. Service is always great too. Everyone is really kind and attentive without being smothering- definitely a plus! My favorite things on the menu are the loaded fries, the onion brick, the Cobb salad and the tavern burger. The Amber ribs also were delicious!
