Late review... first timer. We love Japanese food. Was in The neighborhood and wanted to try a new restaurant. This place was cute and clean and the service was fantastic. Because we frequent Japanese restaurants we know that the teriyaki sauce can vary. Even in Japan it can vary. In this case, it's flavor was leaning towards a more soy sauce taste, thinner consistency. We've had similar types of teriyaki sauce at other places. Just not our preference. Same with the tempura, we know that the batter for the outside can vary. Again, this is just not our preference. It was more of a panko, not the flaky type. The other thing is, my chicken was a little too charred for my taste. My husband ordered beef and that was cooked perfect, as in texture. To me, everything leaned more towards a vinegar taste. I visited this restaurant one evening by myself on the evening of New Year's Eve. They were completely empty when I arrived. I was greeted and seated by a younger guy at the door and two servers (female) were working and saw me come in. Neither of them came to wait on me until the same guy came from the back of the restaurant and asked if I had been helped which I immediately responded to with a "No I have not.". Mind you this was after I had been sitting there for a good 10 mins and AFTER the same servers took the order of someone else who had walked in AFTER me to make a Togo order. Don't know if it's just the city but clearly got the feeling that I wasn't welcome or someone valued less as a customer. Decent nigiri, portion wise, but the initial service was disgustingly similar to a Texas roadside diner. Zero stars for that. read more

Nothing but 5 stars for one of the BEST Japanese restaurants I've ever been to. And yes, oddly enough it's in Lathrop, CA. Do yourself a favor order the Sashimi Tapas. It is a 5 Tapas plate taking you on a journey around the world with the chef's favorite choices. You start with Blue Fin from Mexico (my favorite) then, Amber Jack from Japan, next Salmon from Scotland and then the Chef's favorite Tuna from Hawaii. Finally, a cooked yellow tail from San Diego! The Ama Ebi dish was traditional Japanese tasted just like I ordered it from a noodle shop in Kyoto. You also need to start with the raw oysters! The chef and his wife are a wonderful hard working power couple. Their Japanese and Vietnamese roots show up in their love of food. Highly recommended for those of you who are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine. read more

Passed this sushi place a couple of times and decided to finally try it out. Customer service: Stood in front waiting area and no one comes to tend. Workers that were making the sushi just straight up stared at us for a good 3 minutes before even acknowledging us with service. They yelled at us across the room saying something but I couldn't hear them.There was customers there that were dining and were looking at the commotion. Waitress finally came out and tended to us. Our order wasn't ready yet and we were told 20 minutes but ended up staying for about another 20 minutes for our food. As we were waiting another couple had came in to get seated and it also took them about 15 minutes to be acknowledged for service. Order finally was ready and we asked the waitress for spicy Mayo. She gave us attitude after we asked and gave us 1 spicy Mayo for 4 rolls we ordered. All that came out to $90 (not charging the spicy mayo). Food Quality: Portions for 4 rolls were very thick and big. Lots of rice more than the actual fish and fillings they add in. Also they were very overwhelming with the spicy tuna portion on top of some of the rolls to where everything felt too much to handle and digest after a few bites causing us to get an upset stomach. We weren't too satisfied with the quality of the food and for $90 I don't think that's worth it on top of the service they were providing. read more

We ate here last night , they took the liberty of adding an 18% tip to our bill. Then they said it's a California state law. Lol then they showed us the menu in the small print where a party of six has to pay 18% but in the menu in Only, States, 15%, then they said they've been waiting on new menus for a while with the updated percentage! I met a couple of my Co-workers for lunch in Lathrop California. Its been a long time since I spent time in the Stockton area so they chose Amici Sushi. The tiny new community of Lathrop nestled between Tracy and Stockton CA has very little retail and I was blown away to find an ultra modern all white interior Sushi restaurant in a shopping center. My co-workers knew Sean the sushi chef so I let them do all the ordering. We had the following items: A roll the had tempura shrimp and crab 3 stars the roll fell into pieces when you tried to pick it up. The roll tasted good. Sashimi platter 5 stars huge cuts of torso, yellowtail , salmon and butterfish. Oysters spoons with ponzu 4 stars Tempura 4 stars Spicy edamame appetizer 3 stars a bit greasy and came second to last dish. Grilled squid 4 stars Uni sushi 3 stars small tiny portions did not even fill the rice and nori negiri cups. Service was excellent. Plenty of parking in the strip center. It was surprising to find a real Japanese sushi restaurant in small suburb to a suburb in the San Joaquin Valley. They do however charge Bay Area prices $181 before tip. read more

Amici is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to. Came recommended to me by my cousin that lives in Berkeley; he said it trumps all sushi restaurants in the SF Bay Area. I usually order the chirashi with fresh wasabi - so mush more flavorful than the regular paste you get every where else. Sashimi is always fresh. Rolls are great here too. They have distinctive tastes as many places the rolls all taste the same. Shawn's great too, friendly and always asks how we've been. Looks like a party just ended, and all the workers are clearing off the party table. However the tables are empty and the sushi bar is empty. Can anybody please get a seat? No idea how to get a server. The place is small and confusing. We were all being ignored. 4 groups waiting to be seated. They'd rather clear a table one plate at a time than get their guests a seat. No greeting. No I'll be with you in a minute. It was amazingly bad. Then we asked who's running this place and was told that's the owner. He was leading the charge of ignoring customers just waiting to be acknowledged. Only attempted to try this place based on the ratings, but will never come here again. read more

I have only found one restaurant with fresh sushi in the Central Valley and it's in all places...Lathrop? I ordered the sashimi tapas (see photo). Tasted like the fish was brought out of the ocean just hours before. I was impressed they do not use any imitation anything! Besides the food, the environment is casual and friendly. Shawn the owner is very friendly to every patron. He does need to find more cheery waiters though. Our waiter never smiled and didn't look very happy. No complaints but it might take way more time than you expected to get the order ready. For us, we were here at 12:00pm, we got our bento and sashimi at about 12:45, while all three tables were empty and waiting. I asked to check cuz we were busy with a soccer match (state cup final), joking about the speed but totally understandable. Interesting enough, the owner and waitress kept arguing that we should go other places since they are not fast food, making me feel like they do not deserve the 15% tips. Regarding the food, I had to say, bad but not the worst, picture talks. For merely 100 bucks low end Japanese cuisine , I have nothing to complain. I've been to many restaurants, especially in Japan, with really bad service but extraordinary food. I had to say, this is a quite different experience, especially in the US...would recommend only if you want to experience authentic Japanese service while not that into the food quality. I'm a sashimi lover and I appreciate the generous cuts and the freshness of the fish. The presentation on all of the dishes is classy and always surprises guests that I invite to join me. This is my favorite restaurant hands down. I have been coming here for years now, and I am always blown away by the quality. The owners are extremely nice people and take pride in what they do. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten free. There is no gluten free menu, but the variety is amazing (They have gluten free soy sauce as well). If you let them know about your allergy, they will take care of you. They even have gluten free tempura shrimp and fried crab. I went again last night, and they even started making a gluten free mochi cheesecake. read more

I can't believe I am just now trying this place out. The staff is super friendly & although I didn't have any of their raw fish, the rolls were great! Presentation was beautiful. Loved the modern decor. Miso soup was hot & tasty with generous portions of perfectly cut tofu. We ordered the White Tulip and Mango Paradise. A couple of negatives: 1. Mango roll had a little too much dressing for my taste. I had to remove a lot of it to actually enjoy the roll. 2. Service was very slow. There's room for improvement. I was there on a Saturday evening & as the place began to get busy, there were not enough servers to cover all tables. We had to flag our server down after 15 minutes of waiting for our check. First time ordering from here it was disappointing. Take out order $38. Staff was friendly and somewhat helpful. Ordering takeout is a bit complicated, their website does not offer a menu, but it has a picture option which leads you to their google maps page. Only ordered since it was a 5min drive from work. Order was not ready upon arrival, even if it had been order half an hour ago, but it only took a few minutes for it to be ready. I ordered the Hawaiian Poke Trio $20 & Ikageso $11. I've eaten at a lot of Japanese & Sushi Restaurants, and I foolishly expected what I was accustomed to considering the prices. Portions are underwhelming I thought it was a joke, yes, the fish tasted decent on the Poke Trio...but it was more an order of raw onions drowning in sauce with a bit of fish on top. Hawaiian Poke Trio was about 1/2 cup of fish and another 1/2 of raw sliced onions with some spoonful of seaweed. The Ikageso (fried squid legs) were about a ¼ cup, the sauce was good, but the Ikageso was burnt, and you could taste the burnt oil. Total for these to items, including tax and tip was $38 plus change. Food was mediocre at best, and portion size extremely disappointing. Restaurant tires to go for a fine dining vibe, minimalistic decor, Asian inspired techno track playing and lots of white although it still just looks like any other strip mall restaurant. There's no station for takeout orders, so I sat on a chair waiting for my food. You can tell they cater to white collar folks and others who can afford their expensive menu. I know this is a small town, and maybe because they are one of two sushi restaurants, they feel they can charge these prices. Honestly save your money and travel a few miles north to Stockton where there are over a dozen Japanese & Sushi restaurants that will feed and fill you so much better for the same price point. The taste of the food is decent, only reason I did not give it one star. They have potential to be a good restaurant if they lower their prices for their current portion size or increase portions size and keep the prices. Honestly, I felt bad for the locals they are not getting their money's worth, get your sushi elsewhere. read more

We were getting close to Sacramento at dusk, and passing through Lathrop looking for a place for dinner. Amici caught our attention and decided to give it a try. Decor is modern and inviting, menu is fusion Japanese and selections are rather pricey. We ordered our drinks and we really needed it after a full day driving. My better half ordered her favorite, grilled Hamachi kama and I decided on the Sashimi Moriawase. Miso soup and salad came with my dinner selection and the thirteen slices of fish variety was the chef's selection of the day which included salmon, hamachi, white tuna, three different grades of tuna i.e. maguro, chu toro and toro which highly impressed me. Fresh ground wasabi was served with the sashimi, all ingredients were of top quality, very fresh and tasty especially the toro (fatty tuna) pieces. Very delicious and buttery, it just melts in the mouth. The chef-owner was very friendly and personable, he explained to us what origin his fish selection came from. It's very true, the top quality fishes really taste different and are well worth the price, and the fresh wasabi really compliments the ingredients and brings the taste to another level. One thing lacking to make this meal more satisfying was that rice was not included and would be charged as side order. I'd rather they eliminate the salad and serve rice instead. The Hamachi kama which my lady ordered was perfectly prepared too, nicely grilled and with ponzu served on the side. Besides the excellent food,service was mediocre. A good dinner and nice dining experience. Amici is a good choice for those who are searching for Japanese cuisine while travelling in California's central valley region. read more

Amicis is one of our favorite places to eat at on this side of the Altamont. Some of our go to rolls are - the Shawn and Lathrop roll. Their restaurant is clean and has a nice little atmosphere. Owner is extremely personable If you ask my hubby the grilled squid is on point. Entrees are delicious, tempuras is perfectly battered and their sushi is truly tasty. The only negative I can think of is it is a little pricey. But overall we still feel like it's worth it and we drive from mountain house to eat here ;) read more

I would consider this pretty high end sushi. Not only is their food super extravagant but the plating is stuff you see on master chef or something.
