I've eaten sushi all over the world... and this random tiny sushi spot, at the corner of a strip mall, in the middle of nowhere... ended up being the best I've ever had. I'm going to stop here every time I make the long drive from LA to Oregon. It's somewhere up there along the way. Amazing service, played cool music, and can't complain about the interior. But the sushi... man, what a treat. Biggest rolls I've ever seen for the same price as a tiny 4 piece roll anywhere in LA. Best prices. Amici Sushi is easily one of Lathrop's finest sushi spots. The hashimi was A+ -- fresh, clean, and exactly what you want when you're judging a sushi restaurant by quality. You can tell they take pride in their fish. The Red Ocean roll seems to be the go-to item here, and I tried it. It's definitely good and well balanced, but it does feel like the restaurant emphasizes it a bit too much. While it's worth trying once, I'd actually recommend exploring some of the other rolls on the menu because there's likely even better options to discover. Service was solid with a very friendly staff, which always makes the dining experience better. I was in a time crunch when it came down to my daughter's dinner schedule. While I would have rather gone to a sushi spot closer to home, home was technically over an hour away. I did the next best thing and hopped on Yelp and stumbled across Amici Sushi. Ratings looked pretty good so I made the decision to dine. The establishment from outside is beautiful. The interior was just as easy on the eyes but it was limited in size. Our family of 3 was seated fairly quickly while there was an additional 4 parties already in the middle of dining. The menu is pretty big. Our family of 3 settled with: *California Roll [made with real crab] *Sushi Moriawase- 10pc chef's nigiri assortment. Comes with miso soup & salad. *Crunch & Munch- shrimp tempura & snow crab salad. Roll topped with Hokkaido Scallops *Tempura *Hot Tea *Iced Tea The best things eaten that night was the sushi moriawase nigiri assortment. Sushi rice wasn't great but the cuts of seafood were plentiful. Everything else was a solid disappointment. The miso soup was salty, the California Roll was one of the worst CA rolls I had ever eaten. At $12 a roll, the roll clearly states real crab is used and what a waste of real crab it was- Crab portion was stingy, flavorless, and tough to eat because everything fell apart. The Crunch & Munch, again, had real snow crab salad included. The crab salad was flavorless, unappetizing, and did not justify the $21 price tag. 1 star because presentation was great. 1 star because staff was nice. Great food, good service, nice and cozy, small but clean mom and pop place. Sushi Moriawase was oishi, can't get any traditional than that. Tempura was really good, thin and crispy batter. Gyoza was crispy and deliciously fried, and the sauce was amazing! Tuna and Salmon Kama is a must try if you love grilled fish. One of a few Japanese restaurants that serves Orion beer (originally from Okinawa), love it! I'm definitely coming back, and will recommend this place to friends and family. It was boiling hot and I burnt my tongue because of it. For the sushi, it was very mediocre and I believe-not worth the price. Environment was ok, very small restaurant so the seating is very close to one another which I dont really prefer. The lighting was nice, the music was a little loud, I didn't mind it very much but it was a little hard to hear my friends. We all took a while to order, and then ordered again later on lol, and the waitress was very patient with us (thank you!). We all ordered together some sushi rolls, udon, and a cooked salmon. We shared our food together (minus the udon). Of what I can remember, we ordered the pink orchid, lathrop, amici and 2 other rolls (white something and then another cooked roll). Each of them were amazing!! I would recommend this place if you're looking for a nice sit down place with friends or family, it's a little pricey but you're getting some good food out of it. read more

I'm a kind of tradition Japanese person. I used to go into the U.S. o-sushi restaurants in the 1980s and talk to the o-sushi preparer in Japanese to make sure he was licensed in Japan, to be sure about the safety of the food. Coming back to California, the flash freeze rule takes care of the safety, and usually changes the texture of the fish. I don't go many places to eat o-sushi because it isn't traditional. Today, the couple who own the house wanted to get sashimi. They couldn't agree on a place, so we ended up here. In ten years of living in the area, and several times in this parking lot, I'd never been to Amici Sushi. We were greeted quickly and felt welcome. Prices on the menu got our attention. We ended up with $132 something for three people. I guess that isn't awful when Jack in the Box can be $14 for one person. I ordered the sashimi/sushi lunch combo, which came with salada and miso soup. Price was not bad. They ordered a teriyaki/sashimi combo, poke salada, kimchi salada, spicy niku (meat) udon, and crab roll. Salada and miso soup arrived after a while. It wasn't very busy and we had the second table occupied out of three. The people who arrived with children ordered before we did, so we had to wait a bit. Salada seemed small. As well, the kimchi salada and the poke salada were small. The plate was huge which made it seem even less in size but they weren't big. I'm not a foodie, so my perception is different, I'm certain. The fish was surprisingly good. I've had sashimi in two other places in Manteca and Lathrop and they were barely adequate. Go to a traditional Japanese restaurant in Japan, New Jersey, or Gardena and you'll see what I mean. The sushi was unusual for me. I'm accustomed to rice on the bottom and fish on the top or maki zushi with seaweed around it. This was a roll without the seaweed. They fell apart but they had good flavor. The sushi is pretty good for the central valley. It seems fresher than Raw Sushi Bistro, and the prices seem more fair. If you get the chirashi bowl, it comes with fresh wasabi which is a nice touch. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The service was shockingly rude--from the moment we called to make an inquiry, the staff was impatient and dismissive. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than valued guests. If you want a taste of how poorly they treat customers, just try calling them yourself. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience either. It was not only unappetizing but also poorly prepared. Overall, it was a disappointing and uncomfortable visit. I would strongly advise against dining here. There are plenty of better options nearby that actually care about their customers and serve decent food. Friday Sate Night This sushi place is definitely a place you need to try out. They have a variety of sushi options. We tried the following: The Philly Roll, The caterpillar and if you love avocado you will love this! We tried their most expensive roll, The Delicious, it was very tasty and was about $27 and worth it. Lastly was had the beautiful The Stephan Roll served on individual spoons. It has a hint of smoky flavor, however if you don't like wasabi just ask them not to put it on the bottom of the spoon. Otherwise enjoy! I will also recommend their Sho Chiku Bai Nigori Silky Sweet Sake yum! They have great service and they clean up quickly after you finish your rolls. Keeping your table clear of clutter. Came here right at opening (12pm) for lunch on a Wednesday with coworkers. We had a party of 5, one more person and it would've been automatic gratuity added. I ordered the mango paradise and it was delicious. It came with 5 big pieces of sushi, may be a bit sweet and over saucy for those who want a more pure sushi, but I loved it. It was a bit pricy at $20. All other dishes were from my coworkers. They said they all enjoyed their orders Customer service was great, atmosphere felt classier than most sushi joints in the area. Jeez Louise! We decided to try this place out for dinner on 12/15/22. We called and placed our order a few mins after they opened. We ended up ordering two items. We got the beef teriyaki with tempura and salmon teriyaki with tempura. For the salmon, I was asked how I wanted it cooked. Usually they would ask that for beef not the fish. I chose to get the salmon grilled. They said your order would be ready in 20 min. Once we arrived at the restaurant, we expected our order to be ready but it wasn't at all. What makes it worst was that we were the only ones there. We waited for 15-25 min. One of the staff apologized because they didn't see our order. Since we waited for our food, we were hoping that it would be good. The food turned out eh ok. The portion size seems small. The tempura batter was thin and it wasn't oily. My boyfriend wasn't a fan of their salad dressing. He didn't like how the texture was not smooth and that it had white little lumps in it. To him it seems old but I ended up liking it. As for my dish, the salmon skin tasted burnt. I didn't realize that the salmon ended up melting a small hole on the styrofoam container. The piece that I ended up eating was right on top of the small hole. Ewww, I ate styrofoam! Overall, service could have been way better. They definitely need better communication. Whoever answered the phone needs notify the people working in the kitchen. We will not be coming back here. It's one and done for us. read more

We came on Valentine's Day for dinner and it was busy! So glad that we arrived right when they opened so we were seated right away. The restaurant isn't that big so expect to wait if you come when it's busy. They are definitely short staffed...the two servers they had were all over the place and the one sushi chef was doing his best to get the orders out. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come out and we were one of the first groups to order. That in itself put a bad taste in my mouth. Thank goodness the food is pretty good! Each dish had a nice presentation. We ordered: -Lily roll: The soft crab shell was delicious. I could do with less or no sauce, but that's a personal preference. -Saba nigiri: Typical nigiri. My husband said it was good. -Grilled Saba: My husband enjoyed this a lot! He appreciated that it came with two pieces. Most sushi places only serve one. -Grilled Hamachi Kama: This Yellowfish collar was pretty tasty. It had a nice grilled taste. Wish it came with rice instead of salad. -Chicken teriyaki/vegetable tempura combo: My daughter finished it all. Enough said. It's pretty pricey, but the portion sizes are on point. I MADE A PHONE ORDER FOR "TERIYAKI SHUSHI" the person that took my order was naming a different type of sushi and ESPECIALLY told him chicken sushi he said "oh okay " before we hanged up I confirmed my order to make sure he got it right told him twice "teriyaki sushi" he said yes. I pick up order drive to my home me thinking they got my order right results they gave me just chicken with white rice. I call them and the manager or whoever it was . Was so rude about it that I didn't mention the sushi part when clearly did I'm pregnant so I made sure what I ordered. Well they wanted me to order again and pay for the right item when clearly it was their mistake . Who ever I spoke with was even raising their voice when I was explaining to them.
