Came here today for a collagen facial, armed with a Groupon. Dianne was my aesthetician. I liked the overall feel of the spa: small but clean with warm, mauve paint on the walls, private rooms, and a small but cute waiting area. My room was toasty (just how I like it!), with steam and soothing music playing. My facial was great. Dianne was very adept at her job, and knowledgeable, and bonus that she was lovely. And not a lot of chit-chat, either! I almost feel asleep at one point. The hour was over very too fast, and I was super relaxed upon leaving. A throbbing headache I had going in was miraculously gone, and my skin felt good. After the facial, Dianne left the room as I got up and dressed. I had expected to see her outside but another lady at the reception desk checked me out. I was surprised and a bit disappointed that I didn't have the chance to say goodbye to Dianne and thank her; she made a quickie get-away without saying goodbye to me. Kinda wierd. The lady at the reception desk offered me some "specials" on future facials and treatments before I left. I appreciated that there wasn't a hard sell. The prices seemed good but I declined. Note: although there is some one-hour parking on W. Broadway, and metered parking too, if you drive down the side streets or on the street parallel to Broadway behind the spa, there is free parking with either a two-hour limit or no limit, depending on where exactly you find a spot. I was rather unimpressed with my first time facial at Amethyst Skin Care. I had originally paid for a Collagen facial massage for $50 through Groupon. At my appointment, I was repeatedly told by the lady who worked on my face about a special deal. This "deal" was supposed to be a type of facial add-on that was only 15 minutes which cost $30. However, after my facial, I found out that I couldn't find this type of facial on the prices pamphlet/booklet. I was kinda confused because you would expect to find the prices for all service in either print or online form. Also, I was kinda shocked that the collagen facial mask was only a sheet mask. Maybe my expectations were kinda high, but I was expecting a different type of mask that wasn't a sheet mask (i.e., Clay-like mask type of material). All in all, the lady who helped me was nice and everything, but the facial was pretty average. read more

Took my GF there a few days ago and we loved it. Interior is clean and provides a warm atmosphere. Plenty of street parking and best of all, it's a 5 min drive away from home. Service was professional and unlike many spas we went to, Amethyst was quiet. Like what meimei mentioned in the previous post, we were upsold at the end of the service, which is fine, because she wasn't pushy. Overall, we had a great experience and we'll be back. I regularly go for facials, but Amethyst is the first one I have been to in Vancouver. I went for the deep pore cleansing facial, which was an additional $6 as I used a Groupon I got as a gift for a rejuvenating facial, and deep pore cleansing is more suited for me, as I'm not quite aging yet. The whole facial lasted less than an hour (which is the shortest facial I've had by far). The lady that served me was friendly and did not push me to buy any products after (which I appreciated). Service wise, decent. However, her general technique wasn't that great (massaging face and shoulders). I was only given one mask. The extraction process wasn't too bad at all, not really painful compared to the many other facials I've had. I personally don't mind a long extraction as long as they get everything out. In this case it was short and relatively painless, but I personally would have hoped for more extraction being done. Personal preference. The prices seem a bit too expensive for what you're getting, but if you're looking for a first painless and basic facial, then not a bad choice. If you're looking for a high quality facial and have experienced many others, then you might not leave completely satisfied. read more

Went on a groupon - signature facial which involved a bit of everything except extraction. Where past microdermabrasion & extractions were uncomfortably painful, Diane was very gentle. Enjoyed my hourlong experience in this relaxing & clean facility. Had eyebrows waxed @ very reasonable $. Bought the 3 for $99 deal. Will enjoy coming again throughout the year. Was an ok experiance...Saw their add in the Georgia Straight and decided to check it out. The esthetician was helpful but constantly pushed product and their packages.... I kept saying no and she even sat me down and pushed some more at the end...I still said no and for that reason will probably never return She also rushed through the treatment and I am not sure if she spent the proper time ( micro-dermabrasion) cause the next day I was rough again. The place looks new but the facial equipments are old from when they were next to Blockbusters. The owner is friendly but VERY pushy on upgrading the service with additional fees and sets the client up to buy packages. The promotional sale is always on instead of limited time as she claims. The promotion price is more expensive than groupon, social shopper or dealfind. The service is mediocore. read more

My skin is still visibly damaged after 3 months after visiting Amethyst. I require 2 types of meds to try to heal. More staff training is required in the area of microdermabrasion, or maybe an equipment upgrade. You can expect a lot of pressure to purchase additional services and products during your visit. read more

I can't believe this place is still in business. The woman is so pushy, she will push products and services by telling you your skin is getting old, you need this, you need that, etc. really aggressive. (I'm a good 10-15 years younger than she, not that that matters.) And after being twice (right by my house and cheap) I've learned that despite what you ask, she will mutilate your face, leaving it red and marked for days afterward. I have clear, really nice skin (so people say anyway) but she will just go at you until you have tears running down your cheeks from the pinching and prodding - you'll be wincing the whole time she's in the room. Cheap, yes. Appointment at the drop of the hat, yes. Pushy, yes. Leave feeling refreshed and lovely? Not in your wildest dreams. I will never be back. read more
