Be careful!!! Robbery!! Don't go to casino there!!!! I was there last night and my experience is awful. Slot machines won't let you win at all. Literally, you just sit and see how slots spin and your money disappear. It should not work like this. No entertainment at all. It just takes and takes your money and let you win maybe 10% from what it takes. It's legal robbery. I tried 15-20 different machines and they were all working in the same way. More over I was with 4 friends and they all had the same experience. We also tried the food from the dining place that was not far from the bar and it was awful as well. I ordered 3 tacos, bit the first one and left. Taste and smell was disgusting! read more

Beautiful architecture, beautiful interior, clean atmosphere (smoke), variety of fun slots and other gambling, low ambient light (I like that), and many more cool things to see and do inside and out. Had a great time. read more

My husband and I have been playing and staying here since it opened but the quality has unfortunately tapered off quite a bit. Still the nicest in Central City/Black Hawk-(which I feel the novelty has worn off and is in need of re-invention). There were lights out in the bathroom, a spray stain on the ceiling, and others items that just weren't clean. They seemed to have plenty of cleaning staff which we saw when they had a medium-sized get-together in the hallway. I used to get excited about coming here but no so much anymore. I like that they have a Starbucks and the Centennial Buffet has good prime-rib but otherwise is just mediocre, i.e. cold chocolate fountain. There's a lot of opportunity for improvement. read more

Had an incredible time here last night! Gambled a bit, enjoyed the buffet (love the desert bar), swam and enjoyed the outside rooftop fire pit! Room was nice and clean, staff all friendly and helpful! Excited to come back again, have been for 8 years! read more

Hotel room was dirty, stained carpets and trash leftover from the last occupants. Ice machine wasn't working on our floor and the room lacked local guide books and housekeeping door hangers. Pool had a ton of kids and although the staff did try and get them out at adult hours lot still hung around. For the price the hotel itself was disappointing. The Casino however was decent and clean and the cocktail waitress was attentive. read more

nice appearance, but watch out!! service was terrible. employees were rude. everything is closed. gambling is the tightest I've ever seen in Blackhawk!! didn't win a dime there. no drinks unless you got up and got them yourselves. all the other casinos were friendly, had waitresses, could win on the machines, better food. very disappointed in the Ameristar!! read more

This is the most expensive hotel in town yet we could not get a definitive answer as to why we had to travel no less than four floors to find a working ice machine. We went to play some of the games and sat at a machine for no less than 2 hours with out being offered drinks once, so we ran to the very friendly folks at Coyote Liquor just outside of town to get a six pack for the room, we were stopped by security stating we could not bring outside alcohol in and I asked even to our room? I was told no not even to our room, I asked why there were refrigerators in the rooms then and was told they were for other stuff. I then asked the floor manager how often cocktail waitresses were supposed to go around and he proudly stated every 20 minutes. I told him I sat at a machine for 2 hours the night prior without being offered one single drink and that is why we went to get our own, he stated we still cannot bring it in. Save your time and money and go to Cripple Creek at the Century Casino....super friendly and when we entered with our own outside liquor they stated "oh you guys are going to have a great night." Same machines, better payouts and less than half the price. Never again Ameristar. read more

Machines can be very tight. Today I'm having less bad luck. Cocktail waitresses zoom by you as if it's their mission to ignore you. I've been here 2 hours; have seen 4 cocktail waitresses; have been able to obtain 0 drinks. Off to the free soda machine I guess. read more

Room was nice, and clean but not worth the room charge! We tried to eat at the Timberline Cafe but were told we had to have reservations. We are tourists!! How were we supposed to make reservations on a restaurant we didn't even know existed until the day of our arrival? We had dinner at the Fireside but prime rib wasn't cooked properly and we were both sick all night. Nobody enforcing the rule of no children in the pool past 9, so we were swimming with children. We have stayed at the hotel four or five times a year and dined in the restaurants many more times each year over the past ten years. Needless to say, the restaurants including the Fireside Kitchen, the Timberline Grill and the Waypost Deli are outdated and boring in both the menu and decor. All three require a major tuneup to food and furnishings. A majority of the slot machines in the casino are three to five years or older. The valet parking is the joke of Central City and Black Hawk. The attendants are top notch and second to none. It takes five-seven minutes or more on a busy night to exit the garage after receiving your car from the valet. It's faster at many times to self park your own car because of the valet layout. In the interest of full disclosure, most of the time our rooms and food are fully comped. Regardless, free bland food and unclean rooms are still bland food and unclean rooms. I'm not sure how Ameristar maintains a AAA four diamond rating. Our most recent visit was at the end of last year 2018 in a suite and the shower had different strains of green and black mold in the corners and on the floor creeping up the walls. The floor of the shower had missing and chipped tile and you could see the sub-floor and the backer board for the tile exposed. The sheets were stained and/or had not been changed from the previous occupant due to a tight turnaround for the next guest (us). We notified the front desk and were told they were busy, the room was comped and to make the best of it. We left at two am after discovering the sheets were dirty and went home to sleep the rest of the night and shower at our own home. Both the shower and bed were that disgusting that we felt we needed to live immediately. You can clearly see the drop off in maintenance, quality and overall service across the building, including the restaurants, hotel and casino as Pinnacle slowed down funding and paying attention to these things anticipating the sale to Penn National this past year. I can't remember the last time we have not seen a mouse running across the floor in the Fireside Kitchen and hiding under the raised booths. Unnerving at best. I trust Penn will breathe some life back into the casino, restaurants, hotel and players club in the coming year in an attempt to compete with the new Monarch. Ameristar was the jewel of Black Hawk and Central City for almost ten years, but won't be for the next ten without some real work and effort. read more

My husband and I booked this hotel for a 5 night getaway. Now this hotel is on the middle of nowhere. It's a little casino town without the nightlife of Vegas. It seems like a good option if you want to do some small gambling and just relax in your room. Our room was nice, it had a shower and tub which was helpful. Water pressure is a big thing for me because I have thick long hair. I highly suggest washing your hair with the tub faucet if you want shampoo/ conditioner out of your hair. They do offer WiFi, but it is weak and very spotty. TV channels are limited (I've literally watched Aquaman every single night we were here). Anyway, back to the small town. Being that there aren't any fast food chains or grocery stores nearby, the hotel is our option for dining. Unfortunately, it seems like their dining options are only good Thursday-Sunday from 4pm to 11pm. Meaning you just have to starve the rest of your stay. They do have one restaurant (Fireside Kitchen) that appears to be open most times of the day, but the food is subpar for the prices, options are limited, the wait to get your food takes about 20-45 minutes and it seems like everything is either cooked in a pot of oil or over cooked so that the burnt parts give the dish flavor. We did end up venturing to other hotels who feed their patrons since we couldn't get much of anything here. If you're craving for a midnight sweet treat...you won't find it here. Unless of course it's Thursday-Sunday from 4-11pm and you're willing to spend a minimum of $11 for a scoop of ice cream. If you're planning on staying here, I suggest bringing your own snacks and maybe some sandwich fixings, but don't bring anything that requires a microwave...the hotel rooms don't have one. And really double check your packing to ensure you don't forget anything...there isn't much shopping for an extra shirt or face wash in case you need it! read more

Not quite ready to open. I understand safety precautions and Amerista seemed to have all the bases covered but the rubber stamping each guest was a little overkill and got me thinking that if they don't clean the stamp after contact with every guest are we spreading germs. Casino review only. Dropped in for some gaming action and was not disappointed. Please note that this is for the Ameristar Casino only. There are many other casinos in Black Hawk (which reminds me of the fictional city of Vinci - True Detective Season 2) but they do not have the ability to make you feel like you're in Vegas. Ameristar gets it right. The gaming floor is huge and it has all of your favorite table games and machines. If you're playing you're drinking for free (unlike the casinos in the People's Republic of Illinois). Had some beers and played some cards. Three hours later I walked out even. Make sure to tip the waitresses. They work hard and are pleasant. read more

Stayed here while tho my parents and my sister on a mini vacation from Nebraska. There are good aspects & not so good. The staff is amazing in all areas!! The casino was was fun, even made a little $$. The rooms were large, beds comfy, bathroom was beautiful!! We ate at the buffet great selection and it was delicious. Now for the nor so great points. There are no USB ports anywhere in the rooms, or charging stations located anywhere. Room was clean, but not sure how clean when you really looked, a couple of glasses were spotty, maybe dirty?, there was not a liner in the trash cans, fingerprints on the window. A/C was not very good, probably did not even need it but windows do not open at all. There are not carts for luggage available and when walking in from the parking garage it is a long trek to check into hotel. The stay was quiet & we had fun while there. But, I think I will try a different hotel next time. I would rather have functionality with pretty design, rather than luxury design with basic features. read more

I live in the Denver metro area, so a quick trip up to Black Hawk is always on the top of our list for a fun night out. Usually we don't stay the night, but thought we would splurge for my husband's 50th bday and get a spa suite at the Ameristar. The room itself is beautiful, however, the cleaning staff does a horrible job of cleaning. There was a dirty razor and used soap left in the shower and glass all over the floor when we walked in the room, as well as an empty wine container in the kitchen/bar area in the cupboards. We checked in our room and later went down to the front desk to let them know. I wasn't happy about it, but figured sometimes there are mistakes. When we returned to our room at 2 am, nothing had been done. The glass was still there and the dirty soap and razor were still in the shower. I called down to the office, and they did send up someone right away or offered for me to switch rooms. Not at 2 am, thanks! The lady did the best she could under the circumstances, but I still ended up stepping in glass the next morning. Of course the shower was never cleaned and we gave it a quick cleaning ourselves. We also went to the buffet, which I must say has completely gone downhill. We definitely won't be eating there again. Food was cold, and you could tell it had been sitting out awhile and wasn't being eaten since it wasn't busy. For the price of the buffet, you should at least have fresh product out. I think I'll stick to gambling at the Ameristar, but their other services are not worth it. Cleanliness is not on top of their list. read more

Casino was okay, crowded layout though. The worst part of our experience was the front desk and the cleanliness of the rooms. I don't think they change out the bedding, as our bed was covered in what looked like dog hair. Called the front desk to see about moving or getting new bedding and the front desk woman was very rude. There are alternative choices to this place that I am sure we would have a better experience at. read more

I would rather stay at a motel 6 than here ever again. Booked a handicapped accessible room for my wheelchair bound mother 2 months in advance. We get there and the front desk person tells us "they don't have the room." They gave us $15 off for the inconvenience. $15 off doesn't give my mother the ability to walk or access the bathroom with her wheelchair or shower without a shower bar. The same person then told us we must not have booked the room correctly. I showed her the screenshot of my reserved handicap accessible room. She then backtracked and goes on to tell me "just because you book a handicap room doesn't mean it's guaranteed." I can't get anywhere and they have no other rooms available so I go up to check to see if the room is somewhat wheelchair accessible. There is a stain on the bedspread. I called down and told them the bed was stained. The receptionist said "Oh we've been behind on housekeeping." I would rather sleep in a dump truck than deal with these people again. Ameristar, you can do better. read more

Sir Nicholas and I decided to take a small "staycation" for a weekend before Little Man N comes to town and we don't have that luxury any longer. Since I'm so close to my due date though we wanted to be an easy drive away from the hospital and decided to head to Black Hawk for the weekend. And we also decided to really live it up by staying in the newest hotel up there - the Ameristar. I will say for the location this is a 5 star hotel - I don't think there are any places that will be nicer, especially if you get a deluxe suite. We did and it had a jacuzzi tub with a "mountain" view (although that word is used liberally here), a fireplace, 2 bathrooms, spa-styled shower, king sized bed, and all the works. Definitely a nice place to relax. As for the amenities they do have a rooftop pool, spa, and workout facilities, all nice options. Room service is a little odd, they only serve it until 10 PM Sunday - Thursday and until midnight on the weekends. The restaurants in Ameristar close even earlier than room service does, at 9 PM on the weekdays. That seems strange to me as there were places open in plenty of other casinos and gambling tends to throw lots of people of normal eating schedules. Although Nick and I are both fans of black jack we didn't play here as the cheapest tables, even on a Sunday morning, had a $15 minimum and were always so packed we had a hard time finding 2 seats next to each other. Considering most of the other casinos have $5 tables during the day it might be a better option to go elsewhere if you aren't used to or comfortable making bigger bets each hand. All in all it was a nice getaway and one I'd be more than happy to do again, as long as I can get some grandparents to babysit... read more

We decided to stay here because Ameristar offers a First Responder discount, which we are always so grateful for! Our king room was as expected; roomy and clean with a comfortable bed. They have a nice pool area with both an indoor and outdoor hot tub. I would agree that the hotel could use some updating, but it's still one of the nicer hotels in Black Hawk. Unfortunately, we had a couple of experiences that turned us off a little bit. We tried contacting the front desk late for some help with finding some sort of food (my husband is a type 1 diabetic and had low blood sugar) but no one answered, so we ended up walking several blocks in the middle of the night to where we knew we had seen a vending machine. We also got woken up by housekeeping at 8:30 am on the morning we were scheduled to check out, which was frustrating. Overall, our stay was fine, but we may try our luck somewhere else next time. read more

I have mixed emotions regarding this place. Last time, they made us wait 3 hours to check in, our room wasn't ready until 5:30PM! No compensation offered. They could've given us a round of drinks at least. And the jerk pit boss denied me a 30 to 1 bet made at the craps table despite his staff agreeing with me - grrrr! However, the slots are decent and the pool/rooftop is kinda cool and I like their restaurants and bar area. So, it is OK but I am still pissy about that ass hat who was so wrong. But, whatever I took some of their $ more than one time so suck on that! read more

Me and my boyfriend had never been to Black Hawk, and we chose this hotel to stay out based on good reviews I had read. However, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. First, we checked into the deluxe king room we ordered but soon discovered there was a huge stain that was visible under the sheet. When we pulled back the sheet, there appeared to be a huge blood stain on the cover sheet that goes under the bed sheet. No joke, it looked like a period stain right in the middle of the bed. So gross!! We immediately had our room switched to a room that was better, but still had several gross-looking stains on the furniture. Next, we went to the buffet which was so disappointing! I tried a few items from each of the different stations, and all of it was mediocre at best. The food tasted like food you might find at a school cafeteria. Not worth the 20 bucks they charge per person at all! In the casino part, they do have tons of slot machines which is nice, and the cocktail waitresses are really attentive. They have a free soda/coffee machine which was nice. However, the drinks we SO weak, and when I ordered a drink straight from the bar, they were no better. Overall, we were really disappointed by this hotel. Next time we visit Black Hawk, we will definitely stay elsewhere. read more

In an effort to plan an amazing vaca for my hubby and I on a budget, I booked our stay here from a deal I found on Living Social. I figured it would be like Vegas in a winter wonderland...and I was right!!! This is the newest casino in Black Hawk and by far the nicest. I really appreciated the free parking when we arrived. When we walked in, I immediately got so excited. Everything was so nice and there is no smoking allowed inside the casino!! From the time we checked in until we left after our 3 day stay, the customer service was really above and beyond. The staff is really super friendly and focused on giving you the best experience possible. I could not believe how nice our room was (especially when you consider how cheap we got the room). The bathroom had granite countertops and the shower was fantastic. The overall room decor was superb and the bed was super comfy and the pillows perfection!! I also was in awe of the view we had facing the mountain. There is a fabulous indoor pool and hot tub and an outdoor hot tub facing the mountain. This served as a great way to spend the morning where we could get our muscles ready for a busy, active day. The buffet was decent, my favorite meal was the Saturday all you can eat crab leg buffet. The tri-tip is another good option for a protein. If you are a dessert person, the Creme brûlée and bread pudding are the best dessert options. I cannot recommend this place enough for a nice mountain escape where you might just win big!!! read more

Our Favorite Casino. Our twice a year trips to the mountains is not complete without a few nights at Ameristar. The facility is beautiful, rooms are very nice and the mountain views spectacular. Ameristar is the right mix of luxury and friendly people. My game is Craps and the low minimum allows me to put my money behind the line plus an occasional impulse bet on hardways and midnight. We recently stayed at the hotel at the Ameristar. We went mid week and got a great rate. What a wonderful hotel! Beautiful inside the room. My husband and I booked this hotel for our honeymoon for 3 nights as we had wanted a getaway while we were in Colorado. As a fan of the casinos (husband) and a spa go-getter (myself), it was the ideal medium for the both of us. After a great spa treatment and decent gambling experience the first two nights, we came back to our room on the third day and found that we were 'checked out' of our room, despite our reservation CLEARLY noting that we were booked for three nights. We handled it at the front desk where the front desk noted that one of their own had incorrectly checked me in for only two nights (not the three) therefore they amended it. We were clearly upset that our honeymoon had such a huge bump in the road. Inconvenient and irritating, but the hotel extended a partial refund due to the inconvenience. Fair and fine. Once we left for our early morning flight, I had done express checkout in order to make our flight. After seeing a credit card hit with the hotel charge, I wanted to ensure that we were charged for the correct amount. I called the hotel THREE times, in which I was hung up on three times and not given a breakdown of the charges I requested. I called cordially as I only wanted to ensure that the charges were correct, but the continued negligence of the hotel was baffling as if they didn't want to show us their mistake. As a hotel chain, why should it be so difficult to get a breakdown of charges? Working in the hotel/hospitality industry for a few years, this was incredibly mind-boggling as this have and should never happen in a REPUTABLE hotel. We regret choosing this hotel for our honeymoon and would never recommend this to anyone in the future. This hotel has left a bad taste in our mouths for any and all of their hotels. read more

The Pros: - Beautiful accomodations. My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the Deluxe Spa Suites which was complete with a wet bar, jacuzzi style tub, working fireplace, and living room area plus two 42 inch HDTVs. It was wonderfully decorated and appointed. - Great rooftop pool and hot tub area. They have both an indoor hot tub and pool on the rooftop. In addition, there is another hot tub on the rooftop deck which offers views of the surrounding mountains. - Easy access to the casino and some good food options The Cons: - The hotel staff was horrid. When we arrived, the temperature in the room was 86 degrees. The thermostat was broken so we couldn't change the heat settings. We called the front desk multiple times to send someone up and fix the issue with no resolution. Someone came up and shut our shades instead of fixing the actual problem. When we mentioned this during check out, the staff acted indifferent and didn't even apologize. - The cost of the rooms are prohibitive. The spa suite we stayed in was $350 for the night ON A MONDAY. There are less expensive rooms but there are no rooms for less than $100-150. - I tried calling to make reservations for their Timberline Grill on 4 different occasions two weeks prior to our stay. Twice I was sent to an automated message telling me the hours, once I was sent to the voicemail, and once I was told by the restaurant that they don't accept reservations. When we got there for dinner, we were told they were booked and that we should have made reservations. Very annoying. All in all, I would not stay here again due to the inattentive staff and the high cost. Aside from that, this is actually a wonderful hotel in a beautiful location. read more

This place is, far and away, the nicest casino and resort in Black Hawk. The service is top notch, and cocktail servers will even take drink orders at the lower-stakes slots (which isn't the case at every casino, as you well know). We took a tour of the hotel and resort tower. It was jaw-droppingly amazing. It definitely has a high-end look and feel. The rooftop pool is absolutely breathtaking. They have poolside cocktail service, and the deck of the outdoor hot tub balcony is heated (to keep drunk feetsies warm during the winter months). One final shout-out to Aspen, one of the casino floor managers. She really took care of us, and she deserves a two-week paid vacation. Seriously, if you want to spend your Black Hawk time in a classy environment, come here. The other places up there don't hold a candle to the Ameristar. I'm very disappointed in the way things are handled at this casino Sean Demule. For those of you who actually enjoy this Ameristar location beware in particular of Security Manager Dylan employee number 48491. Also Security Guard Brian employee number 49541, and Security guard John 53076. I was involved in an incident that required an officer to become involved and was fully cooperative with information that he asked for. The officer sent me on my way and everything was good. Once I went about my business again, these people started harassing me for my photo ID. I asked why it was necessary if the officer already had sent me on my way and everything had been dealt with. Dylan said they needed it for an internal report. I then said I would like to speak to the officer involved, and he said if I gave him my ID he would have me speak to him. I cooperated and gave Dylan my ID. Then when I asked for the officer, he asked why I needed to speak to him. I explained to him once again, and Dylan then accused me of clearly showing signs of intoxication and told me I had to leave. This place is Shit. They're security team is shit, and they've definitely lost my business. If you want to come here to have a good time just know to expect the unexpected from these people. read more

Definitely the nicest casino I've been to at Blackhawk (probably because it's the newest, if I'm not mistaken). Parking in the garage at the time of day we arrived (early afternoon on a Sunday) was easy. Mom asked for information on where to eat and the guard made me present my ID and wear a wristband, which made me feel like I was a kid. I removed the wristband during lunch and had to present my ID again, when we later returned to the casino from The Lodge. I get the need to card and I guess I should have kept the wristband on to prevent having to show it twice, but I don't look THAT young . . . After walking through the buffet (which we were welcomed to do by the staff), we decided on lunch at the Fireside Grill/Tavern upstairs. The service was forgettable (drinks went without refills for too long). The menu was uninspired, but the BBQ Ranch Chicken wrap and fries were decent. Mom liked her burger. Gambling was so-so. I like the machines more than the other casinos - newer games and more variety. Slots weren't loose at all (though I've never had luck at any of the casinos at Blackhawk). Mom did well, though, and won about $80 on a John Wayne slot machine by the Starbucks. Casino is really clean, nicely decorated. I doubt we'll ever stay in Blackhawk but if we did, we'd stay here. read more

As soon as I walk in here, I march right up to the security counter and hand the guard my ID. They scan it under a black light to make sure it's legit, and they slap a neon colored wrist band on me. I'm usually the one in my group of friends that gets carded first (damn my young beauty), so I cut out the middle man by approaching the casino staff myself. And it's a good thing I do because they will card you ALL DAY LONG. No matter how old/young you look. This casino goes a bit overboard with the legitimacy. I know it's their job, but come on! I do like gambling here. There are lots of the big time slot machines that I like. Unfortunately, the old timers take up three machines at a time, and I'm not the type of person to ask those gamblers to give up a machine (I just can't do it). The tables are ALWAYS packed, no matter the time of day. Could it be because of those huge progressive jackpots?!? The grill here is A-okay. It's slightly more expensive than the food options in the other casinos, but the food is pretty good. Remember to sign up for a player's card so that you can get comps,, which can help pay for your food. The rooms are pretty nice, but also pretty standard. Comfy beds, access to the decent gym and pool. They seem to always be booked, so plan ahead. One of the nicest casinos in Black Hawk. Unfortunately, it likes to take a lot of my money. read more

3 star rooms (they look 4 star until you notice they aren't very well cleaned), 3 star casino, and 2 star dining = 3 star overall. The dining options are very limited, which makes room service an attractive option until you see the even more limited menu for that. Plus, they don't serve anything that's not expressly on the menu. No fruit at all past noon, not even plain bread and butter as a side for a salad...because they don't have it listed on the menu... I've had several visits to the Ameristar this year. No complaints overall, a really nice property, and I can only comment on the casino, as I haven't gotten a chance to check out anything else. However, in any gambling town, it seems like the biggest, swankiest casinos are also the same ones that can be really stingy on the machine paybacks and offers. I notice an overall tightness to the machines here that I haven't quite experienced elsewhere on the corridor, with the exception of a few mainstream 200 and 300 credit hits on the quarter and dollar machines I usually play. No free offers or giveaways for signing up with the players club on the immediate - not even a free slot bunjee cord, or cash back, or buffet voucher, or free play, or anything. Just about every other property in Black Hawk usually gives some type of freebee or incentive for new players. However, it's a pretty new property, and it's pretty much the only high-rise in Black Hawk, so I guess they can get away with it. I did also notice that a free night and $20 in electronic cash appeared in my offers shortly after my first visit, but it was due to my play level in the short time I was there vs. just signing up for the club. I'm now at the second tier level and the offers have slightly increased, but still nowhere near what I've been getting at other casinos on the corridor. The free "e-cash" offers only allow slot play on designated machines, which is kind of a bummer. The random jackpot can occur, although I've only had five so far. For me, it's been the place to go when the rest of the machines on the block have already paid out. Definitely worth checking out, but I've had lots better luck at the Isle. read more
