Wow, where do I begin? We were visiting my daughter who recently moved to the area. We decided to get some sushi. She and her husband hadn't tried out this restaurant, so we figured let's try Amerikan Ichi. Big mistake!! It took over 45 minutes to get our appetizer and another 15 minutes to get the rolls we ordered. It wasn't busy at all; the chef had his buddies all at the sushi bar, and he was too busy chatting them up and fist bumping them to actually get around to making the sushi in a timely manner. One patron who was leaving told us she waited over an hour for her food as well! The chest literally was fist bumping with his friends while making the rolls, which didn't seem very hygienic to us! The food, when we finally got it, was "ok," but one roll, the volcano, was bland and unappealing. I don't normally write bad reviews very often, but this was one of the worst experiences we've had, and the chef was very unprofessional. With this type of service and nothing-to-write-home-about sushi, I predict this place will close down if they don't clean up their act. read more

Very disappointed with the service, ambiance, and food. Place was virtually empty but it still took an hour for some basics. Prepare for staff to forget about you, and if you want apps, drinks etc - you'll be lucky if they don't forget. The music was not fitting for a sushi place, and the rice quality was terrible. The service is terrible. They forgot one of our rolls the last time we ate there and told us to come back as an "I-owe-you." When my husband returned to get the roll they forgot, we also ordered additional rolls to go. They told us the wait for to-go was 45 minutes. Love this place! Back again! Enjoyed the sashimi platter. Butter fish and salmon hit the spot among all the other tuna. Fried rice was delicious with just the right well cooked bits of chicken. Went in on a Saturday night. We were a table top of 4. We got seated there apx. 0545pm. We left at 7:15 after only receiving apps. Miso soup we ordered was not served. We inquired about our dinner several times. We finally left after a table that was seated 5 minutes before us left and a new round of people had been seated (both that party and ourselves were a party of 4). My husband asked to speak to a manager. The manager was not apologetic at all and stated "We just go down the line." As a born and raised local I can understand delayed service on a weekend with local restaurants but this was just ridiculous. We also had a 2-year-old with us and waiting almost 2 hours is too much. This used to be one of my go to sushi spots, unfortunately over time it has gone down. Tonight for my husband and Is 4 year wedding anniversary we decided to order to go so we could have a romantic night. 4 rolls, 1 hand roll and two orders of the Asian egg rolls. Total was $75 so my husband tipped $20. We were told it was an hour wait, 2 hours later we got the food. Got home and we were missing both appetizers and the hand-roll. My husbands spider roll was made up purely of rice and avocado, mother California roll had crab that was so dry it crumble when trying to eat it. In the past it's been easy to come in, place a to go order and have an appetizer and a drink while waiting for your food. The last two times I have been here when I said I wanted place a to go order and have an app and drink while waiting the response was borderline annoyed and I was told it would be "about a 40 minute wait" ? As the waiter said these words to me I scanned the restaurant and noticed there were hardly any customers in the restaurant. I don't know what their issue was here, but it was not welcoming to say the least. I ordered the same appetizer that I had in the past and noticed the quality had decreased and the price had gone up. In addition to all this disappointment the service was poor m. It was a young man who clearly was more committed to socializing with some friends of his that were eating in the restaurant than providing simple service to another paying customer. Extremely disappointing considering I have been coming here since I had such a wonderful experience and it has been increasingly worse and worse. Both in food quality, and in service. After being told it would take 1hr 20minutes to receive my food (Fried rice, 4? rolls, 4 sides spicy mayo), I was given a bag with ONLY THE FRIED RICE IN IT after I paid for everything. When I mentioned this, they had to double check the receipt and acted confused. Then, after realizing their mistake, they added on an additional 30 minutes due to them forgetting. When asked after 25 minutes of waiting if it was ready, the Chef decided to be excessively abrasive and snarky saying, "Did I not say 30 minutes?" As if he isn't the reason for the holdup in the first place. Of course, they did not include the spicy mayo. If only the sushi quality could be a saving grace. ADDITIONALLY! I have been to American Ichi 3 times in the last 2 weeks alone and I can admit that all 3 times have been terrible. I don't understand what exactly is going on, but for now sushi in Folsom or El Dorado! Maybe it's best for the restaurant to hire more staff so the overworked, exhausted, and unprofessional current workers can take a few days off and rest. read more

4/11/2019: I spoke to the Sushi Chef about my experiences visiting Tokyo and eating the food prepared at the Shibuya Restaurants; alerting the Chef I know how sushi must be served. Anyway, I ordered Tabiko with a quail egg sushi-I received two standard-size sushis, a small tossed salad, seafood Udon Bowl . . . I asked the Sushi Chef if, what I ordered is the seafood Udon Bowl which he confirmed. However . . . Disappointingly discovering while stirring the contents with my chopsticks, egregiously~I needed a microscope finding ANY meager seafood ingredients within the seafood Udon Bowl which I paid $13.00! MEH~I'm going to pass next time ordering the skimpy seafood Udon Bowl which drastically decreased the number of stars writing my review. read more

Upon entering they have a large hand written sign on the door that states cash only, they also advised us that they close at 2:30 as if we bothered them but online states other. I was skeptical due to the most recent reviews the last handful of months but honestly, it wasn't about the food! Good lord they give you such large portions (or everyone else just skimps on theirs)! The fish is super fresh, and the place was packed! In the hour we were there, all tables were full and there had to have been at least up to 20 take our orders. I don't fault them for previous customer service complaints as I'm sure they struggle to keep people around wanting to work just like everyone else is struggling with. But our service was QUICK and responsive. They actually made a small Erie on one of our orders and more than made up for it! read more

We have been going to Amerikan Ichi for years. Food and service was always great. Our go to sushi place. But for the last year the wait time has been getting longer and longer. The food is still good but the wait time is not. We are now at 45 minutes to 1 and 1/2 hours to get our food, depending on day, time and number of other customers. The wait staff tries really hard but people still get annoyed with the wait time. The chef/owner always seems to be having a very good time laughing, joking and talking with his buddies and people sitting at the bar while he also seems to be the only one making rolls. I seems like there is no one at the helm of this ship and they are just and living off there past reputation. Really to bad. read more

Definitely one of my top favorite sushi places in town. Exactly what I was looking for and was craving. Im not much of a raw fish person; so extremely satisfied with the number of rolls they fry. We have been going to this sushi restaurant for 3 years and have loved it. They have always been very accommodating of gluten free sushi. The past 3 times(gave them chances) were the worst. The experiences were all the same. We ordered our food and waited over an hour before receiving any food. Two other tables sat down 20-30 min after us, ate and left before we even got food. When we order our food we tell them we are gluten free. This was never an issue in the past. The last 3 times you can see the owner talking shit about it at the bar. He was not quite about it. We understood that some of the items we ordered could not be gluten free, since the whole party didn't need to be. This last time was no different. We sat for about 45 min and no food. Sitting at the bar will give you a behind the scenes look on how the rolls are being prepared. Aside from a very relaxed meal the giant fish tank captivates with its exotic fish. Big sushi rolls and great tasting beer or saki what more could one ask for. For those craving other treats the BentoBox is the way to go. As you get a bit of everything. Highly recommend the spicy edamame. Read the menu carefully and avoid any ingredients you might not like or even be allergic to. When in doubt as your FRIENDLY waitress. The staff is very accommodating and will move tables according to your party size. Making it a great spot for family gatherings and such events.
