My boyfriend and I went to American Skillet for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We got there and luckily we got the last seats in the restaurant, whereas the people coming in behind us had to wait. The wait staff was very kind and helpful. I just loved the calm ambience and serenity of this restaurant with all of its homestyle and positive atmosphere and décor. My boyfriend ordered one of their skillets for breakfast and I ordered a build-your-own omelet with an English muffin and grits. We agreed that everything was delicious. We plan to make it a routine to go to American Skillet on weekends because of the wonderful experiences we have had there. Great place! Great breakfast food! I must stop! read more

This will be my fifth stop in for breakfast in the last two months. The service is always good and friendly. The food is always properly prepared and served hot. They as most restaurants seem to be short staffed but still attentive. They keep the restaurant clean and sanitize after each guest. Very much worth the stop. read more

My husband were in the mood for a small, family-orientated diner and that's EXACTLY what we got. The restaurant is VERY small - 20-25 tables max, we were guessing. We were lucky to grab the last 2-top at 12:30pm on a Sunday. We both ordered the Hot Beef lunch (roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes, covered in beef gravy) with a side of potato soup. We *loved* the soup and the sandwich was killer. The service was great too. We didn't sit long needing refills, the food came out as ordered, and our bill was only... *drumroll please*... $23!!! A nice and quaint diner with good food and great customer service. Fantastic specials with many options, all of which are tasty and delicious. Tried many a breakfasts at this little place -- omelettes, skillets, biscuits and gravy, and the list goes on. All down to earth good home coming. Their skillet or fried potatoes are some of the best around, a must buy especially if you're ordering breakfast. Kristi , the normal waitress at this establishment is one of the best I've ever had. Super friendly, quick, and always on top of her game. Their are quite a few regular locals as well which are always friendly and nice to speak with. Not very impressive. The wait staff seems not to care about much. The wait is long if there are 2 tables or 12. Most dishes involving cheese have a piece of half melted processed cheese food product slapped on top and flavor was lacking in the breakfast, lunch and dinner meals I tried. I was hoping to make this my neighborhood restaurant but after 3 attempts with the same poor results each time I gave up on them. Save your time, money and please your tastebuds by going to Breakfast House instead if you want a satisfying American homestyle breakfast. read more

Had breakfast, couldn't decide because of extensive menu. Discovered we really couldn't go wrong! Wife had peach cobbler pancakes (!), fluffy, perfectly cooked cakes slathered with yummy peach cobbler, presented very well with accents of puffy whipped cream. I had chorizo omelette, perfect portion of chorizo, savory but not overwhelming. Four of us were so impressed with wait staff, presentation, and expertise of chef, we asked him to come out so we could compliment him and give him round of applause. These happy people really deserve support, they earn it with every meal. Go for the food, but enjoy the experience as well! Bravo, 5 stars! Owners have been owners for about three years, so older reviews don't really apply! We're from NE Missouri, but we WILL be back! read more

My family and I visited this evening and unfortunately food was either over cooked, raw, Or undercooked. My omelette was literally raw egg in the middle....no cheese, which I requested, so no doubt it was raw egg. Waitress was fantastic....but food took forever and we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Will not be returning..... read more

Recently went here, very impressed, great food, great customer service and a all around great atmosphere. The prices were very good, portion sizes were very generous... a lot of bang for the buck. Food quality was very good, a lot of very good dishes that were constructed very well, a lot of flavor. Great customer service, everyone was very attention oriented and the atmosphere was very relaxed just like a good neighborhood restaurant. Great breakfasts. Good portions. Friendly staff. I love their skillets and home fries. Hearty and decent prices. My only gripe is that their is not enough seating though, and sometimes takes awhile to wait for a table. Small upfront sitting area with about 30ish seats. It is a "locals" spot so you'll see it fill up on weekend mornings, especially when church lets out. I remember when this used to be an old pizza joint and going in and playing arcade games while waiting. read more

It's very clean. Nice place to go into. They look like they had some really good skillets that I will try next time. Service was very friendly. Went with the country fried steak and eggs. Definitely better then Denny's. I would put my money on it that it was not home made. I don't think the biscuit was not home made either. Seemed like they nuked it. But everything tasted good, except for the biscuit, service was friendly, place was clean. I would rather be here then Denny's or Perkins. read more

Don't be deterred if you see people waiting outside, they turn tables quickly and it's always worth a short wait. A real sweet little place with great people. Traditional breakfast, with an upscale twist. The breakfast skillets were delicious! Our son had the apple cinnamon pancakes and they were out of this world! Extremely generous portions. Awesome breakfast! I usually get the Iowa omelet or chocolate chip pancakes. Both are very good. Service is great even when busy! Avoid going sunday mornings though as there is a church next door and it always is packed. read more
