American Services is one of those rare completely honest family-owned businesses. I called American Services to perform a pest treatment, pest inspection, and chimney inspection. They sent Andy who did an extremely thorough job spraying and inspecting my house for every pest in North Texas from termites to fire ants to rats to moths. BEWARE HOMEOWNERS Filed on American Services, Inc. 1713 Lombard St. Garland TX 75043 Complaint : Company call 4 fireplace(FP) repair in-home,he offered to look @ outside FP free. I declined. 1 tech removed FP batteries outside 2 scam more money. Waste Of Time -FEB 25th I had American Services come for in-home Fireplace repair. Company I called 4 fireplace(FP) repair in-home, while there the older technician stated if they could not fix the Fireplace it would only be $99 I agreed to pay. He was told I had no issues w/the outside FP & was only having an issue since Xmas W/inside FP. I explained to them that the FP outside works fine he (Older Gentlemen) insisted on looking at it, & stated it would be no charge. Saying he could not find model on unit inside. I declined service to it. I went about cooking & the 2 men worked on inside FP. The older man stated he couldnt find a model/ serial # & w/o asking exited the back door to outside FP located right off the living which was clearly visible through windows. He returned & stated he wanted to look at that FP & it would be absolutely free while he was there. He then asked for C batteries saying he needed for FP outside I said why it works you flip switch. I said that was impossible b/c we just had a handy man come out & turn the FP on and I was calling the builder to see if he had put batteries in the panel b/c they were the last to service the unit aside from our home inspection team. I then called handy man & my husband who had just left. He also stated we just had the unit on, and asked was I watching these guys, I said the cameras on. When I went outside to observe what was going on both man were standing along side the panel and one handed me a C Battery from pocket. I stated why its not wlorking and was just on a few nights ago I then walked around to show him how to turn on and observed the 2 standing near the panel behind the fireplace where I stated you just flick this switch, upon doing so I observed they had opened up the panel and took out batteries w/panel box empty where the batteries go. I stated it just had batteries there, whats going on to both men. One of the men stated they could run to the store. I said it is no need I will call the handyman and have him come by or the builder, being that my home is new. Also the older man asked me to go to store to get C Batteries, and stated he did not have any on his truck. The other technician pulled a C Battery from his pocket and said you can get one like this it is a C Battery. He (Older Gentlemen) again stated, Im not charging you for nothing but the $99 for the inside unit as we discussed, this outside one is free. I again said don't worry about this unit, I will have husband look at the unit when he returns. He stated by the time I returned he would have everything written up so they could leave. Although I felt uncomfortable leaving the men in my home, I dashed out & returned, & I believe by me being a woman, he had the upper hand by refusing to look at the inside unit & give an estimate. He insisted. I had to stop cooking and rush to the store so I could get these 2 characters out of my home. I left the men in my home with my Adult son and when I returned with the batteries he said they were for the outside panel. I stated it did not need to be fixed and there again was nothing wrong with it. As I stated that the older technician took the batteries and put into the unit and the FP popped right on. We returned inside where the technician proceeded to tell me that he could not fix the inside FP and would call with his diagnosis after he look at parts online. He stated he could not offer a warranty on the unit he brings out and I said then no thanks the only thing going forward I want to knw is can the unit be replaced w/another type of unit if not this concludes our business. The tech then wrote up the receipt where I gave my card info & stated he was billing for 2 FP repairs, I stated you said one was free, & he stated he would rewrite when he got to office. I agreed. He then asked me to read out my card info, I did & he said he's be in touch. He called stating he lost my card info & needed it again, I said locate my card info I gave you for service when u came. FP still not working. Your Desired Resolution: Now sent a bill for $214.34 stating I owe for 2 FP's which is a lie. I called or contracted for 1 FP and paid for one, the company stated they lost my info after the technician wrote it down when he was here, I read it back to him, he then took my credit card info and 3 digits from the back and wrote them down again. Now Im being called saying they need the information again because my entire credit card information, name and address was misplaced. I have no trust in this company. As a homeowner, & all fairness I will be happy to pay what we agreed which was $99 & nothing more, due to stolen batteries & fraud. Complaint filed w/consumer watch site read more

I found these folk in the regular Yellow Pages one Sunday when there was a terrible racket in my chimney. SOMEthing was in there, and I didn't know what to do about it. Russell was the only person who answered the phone that Sunday morning. While there wasn't anything he could do about my problem, he did tell me how to try to deal with it myself. He warned me that my efforts would probably be in vain (alas, they were), and offered moral support and the suggestion that we have a screen installed to keep this from happening again. As my husband and I just bought this house in December, we had no idea when the chimney had last been professionally cleaned and inspected. Getting this done was high on our pre-winter to-do list. I called Russell's office the next day and made an appointment for chimney cleaning and inspection, and installation of the critter-proof screen he had suggested. Andrew came out early within the one-hour appointment window we were quoted. He was fast and friendly, and made absolutely no mess. I was concerned about my light beige carpet and white hearth, for no reason at all! He answered our many questions and was informative and courteous.
