It's usually a pain to go all the way here, but I can't stand that the city won't take paper and cardboard recyclables from apartments. Or the apartment owners are grinches or something. I usually go very early in the morning and the amount I recycle from our small household doesn't warrant payment. It takes me about five minutes to drive right up to the small dumpster as close as I can, open my trunk, and the throw in all the little papers and cardboard pieces. The employees usually leave me be, and they will come out and help me unload my trunk on occasion. I'm guessing if I tried to get money for recycling, my experience would be different. My business recycles cardboard with American Recycling at least every other month and has for several years until today. We always used the same truck and trailer filled completely with cardboard. The weight is always between 600 and 800 lbs. Today we brought a load, same as we always have, and we pulled on to the scale, got out of the truck, went up to the window and waited for about two minutes until the woman in the booth indicated we were weighed in. After getting back into our truck and unloading the cardboard, we pulled back on to the scale empty. After getting out of the truck we went back to the window at which time the woman told us we had to get back on the scale because, "you were in the truck when you weighed in." This is absolutely wrong. We were not in the truck. We were standing at the booth as we always do. Final result: the load was weighed at 300 lbs and not 700 lbs like it really should have been. While this only represents $8.00 at two cents a pound, it is still wrong. We ended up telling the manager that if they were that hard up for $8.00 they could keep the whole damn thing! We will never recycle at this business again. read more

This place took an old BROKEN refrigerator off my hands for FREE. The other two dumps actually charge you to do the right thing (dump it properly). Gilton Solid Waste Management charges YOU $30 to take it and Bertolotti Disposal said $25 + weight (minimum of $15) so at least $40. Pisses me off that places charge people do much money to properly dump items like this. That only encourages people to dump things on the side of the road or into canals. It's a flawed and asinine policy. And neither of those two places referred me to American Recycling. Shame on them!! read more

Today, I got to the end of my tunnel in my quest to recycle or shred 61 years of "treasures!" At 10:38, I arrived with my final load - 18 storage boxes of "stuff." Once again, as has always been the case, someone greeted me, helped me maneuver my car and then, in the wink of an eye, three people loaded my boxes on a pallet, took a couple of items to recycle and wished me a good day! They make doing business a pleasure. They're fair, helpful, convenient and they will recycle darn near anything you bring to them - they are a real service to our community in that way. Many, many years ago it used to be a nightmare dealing with them, but they were bought out and the new owners strive to be good neighbors. I had a small issue once and was very pleased with the way the owner came to me directly and made it right. I think this shows that they do care about their customers whether it's a large company or one person. I will continue to bring them all my business and recommend them. read more

I have never had a bad experience at American Recycling. I was intimidated the first time I took my cans in because I didn't know what I was doing. I was fine once they explained it to me. Their hours are also convenient. Since they open at 7:30, I am able to take my recycling in on my way to work. Most of the other places don't open until 8:00 or later. read more

This is a great place to go because of the range of the items that they accept. They are staffed by friendly workers but there is a major problem for those that don't have an industrial sized load of recyclables, they put you as least priority and make you wait through all the other customers that got there long after you did. While I understand that they may not have seen that you were ready as a reason, it is not acceptable to make a customer wait because someone with more recyclables drives in. Will most likely return but only to recycle the things that other places do not take such as paper and styrofoam. Other than that, I will recycle everything else at other places that treat every customer equally no matter the size of their load. read more

Couldn't be happier with the service here. They can pretty much destroy anything and provide a certificate of destruction on the spot. My clients are confident that their personal info is safe with me because it is destroyed properly and certified. I wouldn't use any other company. read more
