Now that this location is open, I wont have to drive to Slidell anymore just for a sporting goods store. I visited most recently to look for a specific Christmas gift. They did not have any on display so rather than buy the more expensive one, I asked one of the employees. This guy was great. He not only checked for me, be went to the back, got one and even brought it to my car. He went way above and beyond to help and was friendly the whole time. Even though the store was packed, they were well staffed and had all the registers going. While standing around I had at least four different employees ask if I needed help. Thanks Academy. This store is great. * the reason the type of gift isn't listed is because the person who the gift is for could read this review. I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise.

They checked other stores and found what I need in stock at another store. I will be able to go tomorrow and pick it up. The store is extremely well stocked. Clothing, shoes, life jackets, ice chests, marine road and boat parts. This store has it all. Even if you don't have a boat you could stock up on marine themed accessories. In particular, I have my eye on a ship's bell for my patio.

After it was raised and before it was scraped, I was able to retrieve a few items off of the boat. One of the items was the Lowrance fish finder with the "extended" warrenty from west marine. I brought it back to the store hoping to get a store credit for the destroyed fish finder. Well as expected, they told me there was nothing they could do without the transducer and power cord. I told them that the boat was sunk and destroyed. Sorry, nothing we can do without the transducer and power cord. Just another way to get out of the "extended" warrenty. If I would have had all the parts, then it would have been that I was missing the box or something. First of all, don't buy anything at west marine. Second, don't waste money on the "extended" warrenty. West marine does not honor the warrenty and will find any excuse to get out of it. Never again Worst Marine.

He has a nice selection on hand as well. Not a huge shop, but a carefully curated selection of items spanning all budgets. Highly recommended.

I was recently tasked with helping someone very close to me find a good concealed carry weapon…read more The person was a little older and set in his ways. Therefore, I suggested a Smith & Wesson (S&W) Airweight (J-frame) revolver in .38 caliber. He liked the black (Model 442) over the stainless steel (Model 642). Most new S&W revolvers come with an internal lock for the cylinder that I did not recommend, as I was looking for something extremely reliable, with no external or internal safeties and as little moving parts as possible. I started looking at all the name brand stores such as Academy and Cabela's, but neither had a 442 with no internal lock. Furthermore, both stores told me they could order it, but had no idea when it would come in. I told my story to my non-Yelping coworker (Brian J.) and he told that I HAD to go to Arms Merchant. Being a South shore resident, I decided to call first, as I didn't want to make an unnecessary trip to the North shore. I spoke with sales rep Ian who advised me that they did not have one in stock, but if I came in and ordered it, he could have it in 2-3 days. I must say that they have a very nice, albeit somewhat small showroom. However, they are very knowledgeable and very friendly, and that goes a long way with me. Furthermore, the price was very good and even beat out some of the big name competitors. Just as promised, the gun came in in 2 days and I am now a very happy customer. They have a decent section of ammo, knives and "sporting rifles"; and even sell guns on consignment. I am fairly certain that they are the only gun store in the area. These are nice people.
