    Hill and Harbor Tile Showroom

I haven't had to select flooring before and found it challenging. I had something specific in mind…read moreand drove all around MA and RI to try to find it. Luckily I went to a Kitchen & Bath show in PVD and saw the Hill and Harbor folks. I had thought I was going to purchase what I saw at the show but when I entered the showroom, I was a bit flabbergasted at the amount of tile options. It was overwhelming. Staff to the rescue! I told the man what I had in mind and he brought me over to a few different areas to view tiles. And luckily I finally had a love at first sight tile moment. They ordered me a sample. I drove down to get it in horrible rush hour traffic and it hadn't made the delivery. They were kind enough to change things around and have it delivered to my house. I ordered my tile and they helped me with a threshold as well. I thought the threshold was lovely but standard until my installer commented on how nice the threshold was. If I ever need tile again, I will go here first.

I want to share my experience with Hill & Harbour. I…read morepurchased material, for my bathroom remodel project. I spent a total of 2,819.51 for all the material that I purchased from them. I  gave Hill & Harbour the measurements of the bathroom. Tom, the owner, said including an extra 10%, I would need 116.20 square feet of tile for my shower walls. I obtained possession of the  tile on March 3, 2020. The tiling part of my project was completed on March 20, 2020. At the end of the project I had 3 boxes ( 36sf) of tile remaining. That amount is an excessive amount and way  over 10%. It states on my order f7orm/ receipt 25% re-stocking fee on any material that is returnable within 30 days. This is where may problem comes in. On or about March 17, 2020, non essential business began to temporary close, people were instructed to work from home whenever possible, and a stay at home order was implemented. I am an essential worker, I reported to work every day during the stay at home order and returned home after work. I occasional stopped at a grocery store on my way home from work for essential items. I was concerned that I would not be able to return the tile in the 30 day period. I called Hill & Harbour and the voice mail said that the showroom was closed, but if you were waiting for an order to leave a message or send an email. ( The voice mail message was changed after my first conversation with the owner) I sent an email. I spoke to Tom, the owner, a couple of days after the 30 day return policy. I explained my problem of having an excessive amount of tile left over. I questioned if the return policy would be altered due to the showroom being closed and the stay at home order. I was told that if the company, he ordered the from, still had it in stock then he would refund me. When Tom contacted me again, I was told that the company did not have it in stock, so he was not going to take accept my return. I expressed my concerns of not being able to return the tile because I was following the stay at home order and the showroom was closed. He told me that he was still making sales to contractors. The conversation quickly took a turn for the worse. He then, reluctantly told me that he would take my return and credit me. I was also shorted one square foot of floor tile for the shower. I needed 15 square feet and I received 14sf. I asked if one more tile could be ordered, it is needed to finish the shower floor. That one piece of tile alone cost $47.19. Tom looked into it and called me back. He said he could order the missing piece of tile for me. I was told it would arrive in one week and I could return the extra tile when I picked up the tile that was still needed.  A week in a half later, I called and emailed Hill & Harbour. No one returned my call or responded to my email. I felt I was purposely being avoided. When 2 weeks amount of time went by, I asked my wife to call because I knew my attempts to contact were being avoided. She had success, and spoke with Tom. She was told that the tile was not in yet. Three weeks went by, my wife called back and left messages, now she was being avoided. I assumed the company had caller ID, so I placed a call to the company using the phone at work. I was able to reach the owner. I asked if my tile was in, he responded no and he didn't think it would ever be in. He was not using a pleasant tone. I asked what he meant by that, because I was told it was ordered. Again Tom, stated it would never arrive. I then said, since the stay at home order is now lifted, what would be a good day to come in to return the extra tile. His response was that he thought abought it and he was not going to take return my tile for credit. Once again, the conversation took a turn for the worse. I told him that he has horrible customer service and that I was not going to let this go. I would contact my senator, attorney general, news station and write a review on  my horrible experience anywhere I possibly could. There are many companies expanding return polices due to the pandemic and stay at home order. Home Depot, Lowes, PetSmart and Target to name a few. In my opinion Hill & Harbour is losing money during the COVID-19 pandemic and they do not want to lose any more. Therefore, they are taking advantage of me not being able to get to the store, due to the showroom being closed and the stay at home order. This is not right. There needs to be some kind of protection for the consumers. Consumers should not be penalized and lose money because they followed the stay at home order. The cost of the excessive amount of tile that is left over is close to $400.00. That is a lot of money to be out of. The owners attitude towards me was horrible. It is a shame that Hill & Harbour is treating a customer this way, even more so because of the reason why the 30 day was unable to be met. Sent from Mail for Windows
