I support people running their businesses; however, this experience was unfair, misleading, and frustrating. I contacted Michael for a car lockout and was quoted around $85 after providing my address and the make and model of my vehicle. He stated my 2005 truck had a simple lock and that the price would most likely be $85. After waiting over two hours with no clear ETA and repeated delays, he finally arrived, looked at the lock, and suddenly stated the price was $185. When I questioned why the price increased by $100--especially since he said the lock would take only a couple of seconds to open--no clear or reasonable explanation was given. It was late at night, and the situation made me feel taken advantage of. He claimed he was "working with me" by lowering the price to $175 because he was late, which still did not make sense. I felt pressured and stuck, and the only reason the price was eventually lowered to $120 was because I pushed back. This experience felt less like honest business and more like taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable situation. The drastic price change, lack of transparency, and pressure tactics are a serious red flag. I don't recommend this American Auto Locksmith Michale has very bad attitude. I asked him to help to modify my two new house lock to using my home master key. He asked for $180. I walked away after I told him that locksmith I had been there in San Jose only asked for $20. He was follow to my car and ask for $100 then agreed to do it for $50. I gave to him $100 but he told me he has only $40 so I can't say anything because I am busy can't go to San Jose. Kind like just care for money. Didn't respect his customers. When I pick up these locks, I ask him should he copy my two keys from new locks to master key. He asked for $10 for each. I reminded him that he still own me $10. He said well I only have $40. SCAM. Remote on 2001 Honda stopped working. Guy guaranteed upfront purchase of "code" would work. One hour later; DIDNT WORK. Charged us another fee for a different code, another hour later surprise! Didn't work either! Now we're out almost 500 dollars because he refused a refund (for failure to provide service) & refused to provide the itemized receipt with the "labor & codes" used. Completely ghosted within a matter of days with no means to fix the issue. Still working out a dispute over this with the bank. Went somewhere else and got it fixed in under 10 minutes. Bought a new truck, 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500. Came with only 1 key fob. Dealer would not get me a another one without me paying for one. Called around and only this company said they could make me another one. Talked to someone named Gil on phone but, someone named Michael showed up. He got me a new key fob but, it did not look like the original. He said it was for a cadillac. Charged me $500. Not a big deal that it is for a different car however, it does not work correctly and $500 is a lot for a key that does not work correctly. It will not start my truck if it is in my pocket or anywhere close to the push button. It will only start if it is sitting on the center console. Worst part is my original key does not work properly now either. It will not lock or unlock my truck. Anyways, called and Gil said he would order the right key for my truck. This was in December around the 18th. Have called a few times since and he always says it is coming soon. Last time I texted him on 1/17/26 he did not respond. Someone else called me however after I explained everything to that person and he said he would help me. Haven't heard anything since. I realize these new high tech key fobs are difficult but, if locksmiths can't do them, then they should tell you. All the other businesses I called told me straight up I had to go to the dealer. A reimbursement of my money is in order. I would hate to post again and not recommend them. Or have to take it to the next level, complain to the BBB and CSLB.
