All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. Initially we were put in contact with Yazan who walked us through the process and showed us some recent ADU's that the company had built. Yazan was very responsive and stayed involved throughout the entirety of the project, helping with cabinetry and other design details along the way. Although we were a bit hesitant on the price at first, when things were all said and done we stayed within budget (as Yazan had promised). There were some minor delays along with the way but the project finished ahead of schedule in just under 5 months. It did take a bit longer than expected to get our permit at the beginning, but once the project started, things moved rather quickly and efficiently. We were particularly impressed with the efficiency of the foundation and framing crew. The structure went up quite quickly. Our project manager Alex was very knowledgeable straightforward. At times he was a bit blunt, but we appreciated the honesty and responsiveness. He always made time to make sure our needs were addressed and our concerns were listened to, with action plans to resolve provided immediately. We are very happy with our new ADU and the experience with VHB overall!!

In short, we were impressed by the quality of the service and, because we shopped around a bit, found the prices to be reasonable. AE remodeled our old, tired bathroom. Originally, we did not understand that we would be responsible for selecting the materials. But after that sunk in, we did our diligence with the helpful assistance of AE. Jenny was very informative and responsive. She answered our questions, both those that related directly to the bathroom but also those relating more generally to remodeling strategies that arose from our inexperience. What do you think of this material? What do you think about this type of sink in this space? What kind of shower design is best for this concern of mine. Etc. I can't recall an instance where Jenny did not immediately and helpfully respond to email or text. Jenny also proactively made good suggestions. The remodel went well. We really liked the result. We were delayed a bit by the city and permits. But Jenny and her team were always patient and committed. In one instance, the city inspector came back with some surprising feedback. But Jenny and her team with due dedication and versatility adeptly executed on the feedback and made the inspector happy. Anyway, it's been about a year after the remodel. A few small issues came up recently. I contacted Jenny and she sent her team to handle without hesitation. The follow through was very impressive. Jenny will be the first person we call when we're ready to remodel the other bathroom.

They Scratched hardware that we purchased and we had to purchase another set. We spent a week waiting for new shower cartridges because they didn't know what type we should get. I wish our project came with an actual project manager who would tell us what we needed to do and by when. We felt like we had to plan and purchase so many things on our own They stuck this sticky plastic all over our carpet to prevent stains but when it was removed left adhesive residue everywhere and now my carpet is ruined. When I asked how to fix they ignored me. I regret starting this project with them. After this post there is a response from the "business owner" stating they are sorry and then a lengthy set of excuses which equates to a false apology. Bottom line is 1) you scratched up the hardware we gave you 2) we bought all the HW ourselves and asked if we bought the right cartridge. You all said yes. Give the right answer else we waste time. 3) we rejected your attempt to fix the carpet issue because your team had already used a wipe on the carpet and it didn't work. And then you offered to dump vinegar all over to clean it. Of course I'm going to reject that. What other excuses would you like to provide? And tbh you should be concerned whether your customer feels disrespected not your own feelings on the manner which is of opinion. And by the way your contract that we all signed includes a 1 yr warranty. I hope to not use that but your response seems to imply you are going to abandon communications with us which is a legal breach in your own contract.

I cannot recommend Ivan highly enough. We just completed an addition…read moreto our house in San Jose, which added around 300 sq ft, included a new bathroom and had to tie into the existing structure of our house. We met with several general contractors and got several bids for the project and ended up choosing Ivan. There is a number of examples of why I would recommend Ivan if you are doing a larger project: 1. He is reasonable about budget, he gave us a very reasonable bid and tried his best to stick to that bid as much as possible. Almost all overages in the bid were of my choosing to use different materials or changes to the design throughout it. Ivan always let me know how much more something was going to be and was always reasonable if I asked for more bids from subcontractors to try to get a better price. He is never willing to sacrifice quality for the price, but will actively work on your behalf to get quotes down to where they should be and deny out subcontractors based on price. We would not have been able to complete the project in the price range many people gave us. An example were, one of his framers came in at a higher price than what he bid us, Ivan worked hard to find a different framer that he felt would do the job correctly and he could trust but was back closer to the big price. 2. He is extremely knowledgable about all parts of construction. He is easily able to answer ideas, come up with creative suggestions. His companies name is not a joke, he is EXTREMELY precise. So much that he worries about quality and things being perfect to a point that he would tell me he is changing something or having someone redo something because it wasn't up to his standards when I didn't even notice there was a problem when I saw it. He is able to work with his subcontractors and correct a situation when something is not done right. He holds them accountable and himself accountable for any problems and gets them fixed. Another example of his precision is this was a large permitted project where we added square footage, it was inspected multiple times throughout the project, not a single inspection didn't pass and even the inspectors commented on the quality of his work. In fact I have had multiple see what he has don't and comment on the quality of his work. He is also extremely clean and worked around our schedule which is nice since we had to camp in the living room while our master bedroom was being redone. 3. He is straightforward and an all around nice person to work with and deal with. He is friendly and considerate, this is a great quality to have when you are working with someone over months. 4. He took into consideration our needs out of the project. We wanted things like soundproofing, he made it happen, we wanted certain features of the bathroom, he made it happen. We wanted a modern look, he made it happen. He did everything is a extremely fast paced timeline and I never felt like we were behind schedule, it always felt as if the project was moving along well. In the end the project turned out much better than we had actually imagined and we still marvel at how great it is. When you are spending a good deal of money you fear that if might not be worth it, so it is refreshing to look at it at the end and be overly happy with how it turned out and not worry at all if you made the right decision. I don't know if we would be in the same situation without coming across Ivan, and I can't recommend him highly enough. I have worked with several general contractors before in the past and I have not had as good of an experience as with Ivan, there is so many more remodeling projects I would like to bring him back for when I have the money to do so.
