The food is so fresh and homemade and gives you a true taste of Russian/Ukrainian food! Our go-to's are always the Borscht soup, Darniskty Salad, Pelmeni, and Chicken Tabaka. They also always bring out some fresh Russian bread for FREE and they are super giving on the portion. The soup is a 10/10, reminds me of the Hong-Kong style borscht soup. Comforting, healthy, and hearty! The salad is by far the major reason I keep coming back. The dill, fresh tomato slices, salty onion, and cucumber with a little zest is so tasty and again super healthy! The pelmeni and tabaka are classics you can never go wrong with. The pelmeni also reminds me of Chinese pork dumplings and are absolutely delicious with their fresh sour cream dipping sauce. Our recent visit, we were sat on the exterior part of their restaurant and it was a bit chilly and windy so the owner provided me and my partner blankets! How sweet and thoughtful. Service is super friendly, just be mindful that it can be a little slow occasionally depending on reserved parties that day.

And the food, which skews rustic/French/Mediterranean, is phenomenal as well. I highly recommend getting an order of baguettes with butter. They come out warm and fresh. The grilled octopus with avocado mousse and toasted hazelnuts is always charred to perfection. And the Portuguese piri-piri shrimp is extremely flavorful as well. For entrees, I almost always get the fresh pappardelle, served with a poached egg on top. With creme fraiche and porcini mushrooms, the dish is so creamy, eggy, and rich. Could almost lick the bowl when I'm done. Don't skip dessert. They have a consistently fantastic dessert menu, including a decadent pumpkin basque cheesecake that made my mouth water on a recent visit.

The ambience is pretty, especially the area with the lights on the ceiling, but the overall vibe felt more lively and party-like THAN romantic. The music was house music, there was a lot going on, and some people showed up in costumes with groups of friends. If you want to spend time with your friends I say come here but don't expect the food to be good. If you saw this place from TikTok and thought it would feel like a little Disney scene it really didn't feel that way to me. My boyfriend and I waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated, even though it wasn't very busy. The staff was flexible and nice about moving us to a diff spot near the lights, which I appreciated. But we still waited a full hour for our food, and no one checked in on us until after it arrived :/ My bf ordered the $80 steak, which was a small portion and wasn't very good. He said he didn't like how the potatoes were made it was super chunky and they have it with green beans instead of asparagus if that's your preference... but we've seen juicier, larger steak at Nonna's for $20 less. As for me I ordered the pappardelle, but I didn't enjoy it. The noodles tasted doughy, and didn't like how they cut out leaf peas and fried garlic in the mixture... so we were not fans of the food. As for the housemade malawach bread it was super oily and the leafs on top were long. I mean presentation of the food was cute but not tasty or enjoyable lol. The setting is nice, but the service and food didn't live up to what we expected. For a more romantic dinner, I'd choose somewhere like Cara or Nonna's instead because this was just super disappointing for my 2 year anniversary dinner experience.

His advice: "go in the morning, their cakes and pastries are killer; a long line forms even before they open, it will be worth it" it's hard to not go broke here, they have sometimes unnusual combinations of pastries that are always incredible! Their chocolate + salted caramel cake is my husband's favorite, its a bit much for me but I cannot deny its beauty and quality. I love all the passion fruit desserts, their danishes, anything with Caramel is also my husband's jam. Come hungry, eat something here, take some home. When dining in I've loved a slice of their quiche of the day, they give you a nice side salad with a zesty dressing, I also love ordering the baguette with salted slow-churned cultured butter (Rodolphe Le Meuiner Beurre de Baratte) and jam - simple but WOW! Fantastic place for those coming to LA for the first time, the building is just gorgeous, and for those who live in LA: you should come! I recently went back to try their famous French toast, but they were sold out that day. We ended up ordering a burger, kimchi fried rice, and adobo fried rice, and all three were mediocre at best. A few weeks later, I gave them another shot, and OMG, the French toast was so good! It was crispy on the outside and very soft on the inside. Hands down, one of the best French toasts I've ever had! The other dishes I tried were disappointing, but the French toast alone made me glad I came back. Just make sure to get there early before they sell out!

Still cannot believe we were able to join the small community of people that had the honor to experience the artistry of chef Aitor Zabala and his remarkable team. Somni presents a 24-course, carefully curated tasting menu. Only one seating per night and dinner usually runs about four hours long. Doors open right at 7:30 pm and you are seated in the garden where you will receive a welcome drink (Tokyo fizz which is a Japanese sake/yuzu cocktail) and about 6 small bites that range from sweet to savory. This allows us to sit and relax for about 20 minutes before being escorted into the main dining hall. Dinner is served from a counter top so you have the opportunity to watch each dish come to creation. I personally love this interaction. You are served about 12 main courses expertly composed with Iberico pork, Dungeness crab, mussels, Chutoro and Bone marrow, beef tartare, and fresh garden herbs & botanical elements. My top FAVORITES were the Shiso puff tartare (Best dish hands down), Gazpacho blanco, and the Iberico pork. Very filling. Finally, dinner concludes with tea/coffee and 6 small bites of fruity gel, choc donut, and sorbet. Each course captivates your senses with its vibrant presentation, alluring aromatics, complex textures, and remarkable depth of flavors. Every bite was unique and lingered beautifully on the palate. Would love to come back again. Curious to try their fall and winter menu. Without a doubt, Somni is deserving of each of their stars

So, now, during these difficult times for almost everyone, that mission seems even more important. For this reason, I have made it a point to cover a wide range of venues, from low to high and after 300 reviews, I can say with some satisfaction that I have done that consistently. Now I am turning in a slightly different direction, mostly to make myself happy first and foremost. There is enough ugliness in the world. I want to surround myself everywhere I go in beauty, kindness, and comfort. That will be the aim of my reviews for the rest of this year. Along these lines, I have been lucky enough to visit a glittering sequence of gorgeous, uplifting, exceptional places in the past month or two. Many of them are in Beverly Hills. I am not interested in the prestige of BH at all. My selection of places in one of Los Angeles's choicest "villages" is based on several factors: ease of parking (BH has low cost public garages on almost every block); aesthetics of the venue itself, both outside and inside; ingenuity and novelty of the offerings (menus; merchandise; entertainment, etc.); and cost/benefit ratio, i.e., value for the time and money spent. Beverly Hills offers all of this in one easily accessible spot and has made it possible to navigate their enjoyment during these stressful times with ease. Which brings me to The Terrace. Just one look at all the photographs I and other diners have shared and you immediately grasp the beauty, care, intelligence, creativity, and high standards The Maybourne team has applied to this delightful outdoor restaurant. The service, menu, quality of each dish and beverage, and the lovely decor and appointments complete the experience. For me, it was like some of the most elegant spots I have enjoyed in Europe, especially Italy and France. A visit to The Terrace is like a trip to the Mediterranean, especially since Beverly Hills is blessed with exceptional weather most of the year. I want to acknowledge Marianna in reception for her warm and friendly welcome. Then, Charlie and a roster of other people attended to us as if we were royalty. We felt simultaneously at home and at a banquet in Monaco! When we arrived and as we left, we were acknowledged and appreciated, as few places know how to do. I cannot think of one thing that could have been better. We loved every minute of it, in fact two hours flew by, and now we cannot wait to return. Pamper yourself by lingering over a meal in this glorious courtyard garden. It will elevate your spirits and we can all use that, right about now.

Whether I'm stopping by for their lovely happy hour or enjoying a leisurely lunch, the experience is always wonderful. The lamb chops are absolutely delicious and one of my favorites! I also love their branzino, which is beautifully prepared, and their pasta dishes are equally delightful. The setting is simply beautiful. Such a charming, peaceful little escape right in the heart of Beverly Hills. It's the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a delicious meal, and soak in the lovely atmosphere. And of course, the staff deserves special recognition. The service is consistently warm, attentive, and welcoming, which is one of the many reasons I keep returning. A true hidden gem in Beverly Hills, with wonderful food, beautiful surroundings, and exceptional hospitality. Always a pleasure to visit!
