The food was excellent. Delicious, a delight to look at and even better to taste. Lots of menu options, abundant serving size, and the service was excellent as well. It was so enjoyable to relax and enjoy the scenery and location while our meal was being prepared and enjoyed. Very fresh salad bar, I had a coconut curry that made me smile over 3 meals! My wife and I were driving down the Pend Orielle Scenic Byway and wanted to stop for lunch. There were a couple of options in Clark Fork but they didn't appeal to us so we kept driving about 20 minutes, crossing into Montana on Hwy 200 and winding off that road a few miles to reach the Amber Bear Inn. We learned of it here on Yelp. It's a 5 room Inn, restaurant, and "casino". There was a party of 5 there about 1:15 on a Wednesday. They were friendly and told us they all enjoyed their meals ranging from breakfast all day to tacos to elk burgers and more. We ordered waffles with bacon and a buffalo burger with fried potatoes. just a staff of two friendly ladies, one cooking and one serving, so it took a little while to get the food. My burger and potatoes were good. She enjoyed the crispy bacon, but said the waffles tasted like Eggo's. So... don't get the waffles, but they have lots of choices. The lemonade is Simply, not fresh, if that's important to you. They have a full bar with beer, wine and liquor. And they sell packaged alcohol too, I think. The surrounding countryside is pretty. The "casino" is a small, dark room with about 15 electronic slots. But a local hit an $90 winner while we were there! It serves the locals and tourists passing thru and folks seem to like it. It was an adventure in a remote area with nice folks doing their best to serve good food in a fun atmosphere. read more

Food was great and the staff was nice. It could be a little more cleanly, but the property is beautiful!

Stopped in for dinner a number of times. It's always been good. Service is friendly, nice menu with a lot of options. Place has a nice country ambiance, good views and a warm fireplace. I have had their shrimp dinner twice and it's good and almost more shrimp than I could eat. It's a 30 min drive for us to get there, but well worth it. read more

Such a great place to stay! The owners are very friendly and welcoming, there's tons of hiking nearby, and it's a beautiful area. The rooms are big and comfortable and the food was great. The food is up-charged upon cashing out. It's significantly different than what's ​listed on the menu . Is it an honest mistake? Or is something more nefarious going on .. And the quality of the food was a major disappointment as well. It was about average. read more

Food was not great. Everything is frozen from Costco. Salad bar was not great either. Brown lettuce and very little else. Also at least fifty percent of the menu was unavailable. They even gave out a specials sheet of which most of those were unavailable as well. Hours of operation are misrepresented, hours are up to owners discretion apparently. Beer was not cold enough either. On a positive note the location is beautiful and a very pretty drive in. There are gaming machines in a tiny dark casino. Probably not going back. read more

Had the best weekend getaway at the Amber Bear Inn. It was like being at home minus the cooking, cleaning and laundry. We enjoyed our coffee on the large front porch with a beautiful view of the mountains, not to mention the various wildlife. Spent our days enjoying the scenery around the small town of Heron and nearby Clark Fork. There was no traffic, no noise, no need to rush for anything- It was FABULOUS! We spent our evenings again on the front porch relaxing with a glass of wine watching the sun set across the mountains. Our room, which included a two person jacuzzi with AMAZING views, was perfectly cleaned and comfy. We will definitely be back! read more

Be careful if you reserve a room. They do not allow you to cancel and you will be charged for that room whether you can make it there or not. I had my reservation date on a room for two nights made a few weeks in advance. That date was made for the wrong date mostly due to them. When I called 2 weeks ahead of the scheduled date to try to get the room on the correct dates which was actually the next weekend. The woman I talked to scolded me for trying to cancel and told me I would be charged for the nights I had originally made them for. And that they had no rooms available for the correct weekend. I was coming for a horse event. I really don't think they would be interested in changing it to accommodate my mixed up room dates. This lady was very rude to me over the phone about it. So just be careful! read more

There are so many good things to say. Breath taking views, abundance of wildlife on the property. Food is excellent. stayed in the pink room with large king size bed, fireplace, jetted tub and the sound of the creek lulled us to sleep. Can't wait to stay again. read more

This is a neat little casino and bed and breakfast out in the middle of the woods. Pretty area in Montana. Drive thru Idaho a ways and you will be there in like 15 minutes. It's a cool old house with about ten casino machines inside it. Some are way old and a few newer ones. Older couple who own the place are pretty nice. Free beers while you play is really cool. read more

I found the amber bear today while sightseeing on Highway 200. First tip, don't give up as you wend your way through the narrow dirt roads to get there! I had the elk burrito with fries and chips and salsa. Each item was terrific! The flavors were great in the burrito and the meat was tender and plentiful, even the chips and salsa were excellent! The fries when I first saw that they were crinkly fries I was bummed, but when I tasted one they were really really good!!Fried, Crispy, and salted just right. The waitresses were super friendly and did a great job. The view is spectacular, every table can see the 7000 foot mountain not far away! read more

Can't say enough good things about this place and the owners. My wife, daughter and I stayed with them last night and in hind sight, I wish we would have worked more than one night with them into our travels. DO NOT stay here if you dislike unique experiences, great food, warm hospitality, wildlife, peacocks or interesting conversation and funny stories. We only planned on staying at the Amber Bear Inn for one night, but ended up staying for three. Lucky for us! The views were breathtaking, the service friendly and the accommodations top-notch. Mike and Nancy were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. Each room was spacious, stylishly furnished and very clean. The beds were comfortable and the relaxing ambiance made for a great night's sleep. A complimentary breakfast was anything but ordinary. Just order any breakfast item off the menu, and Nancy cooks it up and serves it hot and fresh. Lunch and dinner were equally delicious. Our first day, we relaxed on the large, wrap-around front porch taking in the beautiful view and several deer and moose sightings. Later, Gary took us on an ATV ride to explore the property. The next day, we drove 10 minutes to the Fork Clark River and did some kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. The Amber Bear Inn is ideal for those looking to hike, fish, boat, kayak, paddle board, snow shoe, cross-country ski or get away from it all. I highly recommend this slice of paradise and will visit again! read more

Somewhat unique experience, primarily the road leading into the establishment. But once you reach the Inn, and go inside, you are magically transformed into a little bit of Switzerland. Owners, Mike and his wife, I regretfully do not remember her name, were just wonderful. What I do remember is the delightful meal that she prepared for the four of us and the hospitality generated by them! The food was excellent and prepared to order. I even dropped a dime in the neat little casino next to the entryway. When back in this area we certainly will pay them another visit. If you are day tripping near Heron/Clark Fork, spend some time at this cozy little piece of heaven! you definitely will not be disappointed! read more

Our family LOVES this place! My parents have a summer cabin in Hope, ID and every summer when we come up to visit from San Diego lunch at the Amber Bear Inn is always on the agenda. The food is great from the Buffalo burger, to shrimp cocktail, to waffles, to pasta. The owners are super nice and always let us walk around the farm, check out the animals, and pickup peacock feathers (my daughter's favorite part). I highly recommend checking it out and can't wait to go there this summer. read more

Nice place and good food, but I'm not planning on visiting again. The first mis step was the owner being to busy to welcome us due to the Stormy Daniels interview on Sixty Minutes.....can you say DVR. This was not our first visit, you would think that repeat customers might be treated a bit better.The second mis step involved her husband Mike. He apparently doesn't understand the possibility of passing side by side on a dirt road.......or keeping his mis guided beliefs to himself. Mike look around before dogging a paying guest regarding dirt road etiquette......believe it or not our family has a home on a dirt road. Shame on you. read more

Unbelievable. This place is awesome! Tucked into the woods on the border of Montana and Idaho, this B&B is a gem. I would strongly suggest this to anyone who is animal friendly and wants to get out of the city. We drove up and immediately had a warm greeting at the porch, and came right in. I saw they had peacocks, a horse, two goats and several chickens and dogs frolicking around the large property. There is also a private pond out front my husband quickly took to for fishing and had a ball. I had fun petting Shelby, a friendly quarter horse who likes being scratched behind his ear and gave me a very sweet horse hug. Upon petting Shelby, two little goats came out to say hello and were so friendly they followed my husband out to the pond like two puppy dogs. This place is like a mini farm B&B and is so peaceful with great food, too. Just loved this place! I'm sad to leave and can't wait to be back. The owners are down to earth, great cooks, and at dusk you should sit on the porch and watch the deer go for a swim in the pond. It was adorable. There was also a small black bear who came to the back door- and wasn't very phased that my hubby and I were watching from the back door. Very cool for animal site seeing! The owner doesn't allow hunting on his property so its a great way to see the animals come out in a peaceful setting. I felt very relaxed and just loved the area, off the beaten path and off a dirt road. Great country getaway! read more

This place was wonderful. I just finished a cross-country bicycle trip and was looking for a place to stay for the night. Trying to be as conservative as possible, I asked the couple who owns the inn if they would mind if I camped out on the property rather than pay for a room. They had no problem and let me stay there for free. Nicest couple of folks ever. In the morning, we had breakfast and talked about a whole wide range of subjects and I didn't want to leave! If you want to see some beautiful country and meet nice people, this is a good place to check out. read more
