Genuinely disgusted. Ordered two Nutella/banana crepes at $11.99 each, a smoothie, and a cola. After I paid, my receipt showed that I paid for two chicken crepes at $13.99 each and the total bill was $50 ($49.65). Interesting. I asked about it and the guy working there told me it was actually less than the price of the Nutella crepes "because of the taxes"- his words. He tried explaining more but I just did not understand how that's possible, whatever. He was making me feel stupid, so I sat down and waited about 20 mins. And got... strawberry Nutella crepes.... (I ordered banana). So I had to tell him it was wrong, I don't even like strawberries. So he had to remake it. While he was remaking the first one he finished the second one a couple mins later and it was the right ingredients, thank god. But it was grossly undercooked, chewy, and the amount of Nutella was just disgusting. I walked up for the second one and saw he was about to throw away the strawberry one? So I asked for it cause why are you throwing away good food? I figured I could give it to my friend to eat cause she didn't get anything. Then he asked me to pay for it- you were just about to throw it away, you messed up my first order, and you overcharged me. Why would I pay for it?? So I took it and the second banana crepe. All disgustingly soggy and overflowing with hot Nutella. Could not even get them down. The smoothie also sucked. Never coming here again, and was never offered a refund.

Matcha has officially exploded in the United States, and Saikō has clearly tapped into that culture. They have a really fun menu with creative combinations that go way beyond a basic matcha latte, but what really caught my attention was the Hojicha. I'm calling it now: Matcha was the beginning. Hojicha is coming next. Hojicha is roasted Japanese green tea, and it has a completely different flavor profile from matcha. It's smooth, earthy, nutty and almost toasted, without that grassy quality some people associate with matcha. The one I had at Saikō was absolutely delicious. I also love that they're not treating Japanese tea like a trend that needs to be watered down for everyone. There's some real creativity happening with the flavors and combinations, and the menu is interesting enough that I'd want to come back and work my way through it. The location is definitely unconventional, but there's something kind of cool about watching people play pickleball while you're sitting there drinking Japanese tea. Saikō is one of those places where you can say you discovered it before everyone else did. IYKYK.

I don't make my way over to that area very often, but this place is worth the drive. They have a fun matcha menu with a variety of flavors and combinations. They all sound amazing. I've loved the mango sticky rice matcha in the past. Most recently I tried the pistachio matcha and it was also delish. The staff is always super friendly and offers great recommendations based on your preferences. The cafe area has plenty of seating as well. It's cool that you can watch people play pickleball while you sip on your matcha. The Greenery Creamery also just opened their new location right next door, so I'm sure they'll start to see some increased traffic.
