Amazon Fresh, They've Got Plenty Of Nothing Had never been in an Amazon Fresh store before today. Went to the FedEx Store to drop off an overnight envelope, saw the Amazon Fresh store so went in. For Russians who live in the area going into this Amazon Fresh store must feel like being back in the USSR. There are vast areas of empty shelves, however this balances out since there are very few customers in the store. All the Amazon Fresh employees I saw were busy trying to stock the shelves but the carts they were stocking from didn't have much product on them. Didn't see anything I wanted and can't imagine any reason why I would ever go into an Amazon Fresh store again. The shelves of every other market for miles around in every direction are filled with product. read more

I came same day as their grand opening to experience the newest Amazon Fresh in the area. There's plenty of parking in the lot, but even getting inside the store was quiet odd. You think there's a line, but really it is someone explaining to a guest how their system works. You can just walk in and shop like in a regular market. If you choose to use the shop and go option then it could be an issue. I did the shop and go option. You use your cell phone via Amazon barcode to enter the store. You shop as you go and when you leave you scan your Amazon barcode again to exit the market. I used a coupon while I was shopping and you scan the coupon first and then your barcode. You do not receive a printed receipt, but it will be e-mailed in an hour (or more like several hours) to your Amazon account. Since I went grocery shopping I highly suggest not using the Amazon barcode method, but rather just shop normally and go to a checkout line to avoid any possible discrepancies that could arise. I used a shopping cart during my visit, which I guess the cart reads the items you put into the cart. Unlike other Amazon Fresh locations there is no screen on your cart to tell you the items you've placed inside and your real-time total. Also, if you decide to use the barcode shopping, I don't know how it works if you buy a couple of items and hold them in your hand as you walk out of the store. When I was finished shopping it was kind of an annoyance to not know my total and to see if my coupon went through. I had to wait several hours to find out that my coupon wasn't honored and that I put back an item, but I was still charged for it. To fix this, you have to call Amazon and have them credit your account. Another step you don't want to do after grocery shopping. There are bags for sale throughout the store for 10c each. I suggest if you bring your own bags, to avoid reusing the Amazon Fresh ones to prevent being charged for them as that is what will be assumed. I am curious to know why this location decided to use this kind of barcode shopping system as it is not convenient whatsoever to the customer. I don't think I will be back at this location to avoid any possible issues that may arise after my grocery shopping trip. read more

It's a nice looking store and it's clean, but that's about it. Low inventory, poor selection, national brands you can find anywhere--not at all what I expected considering their relationship with Whole Foods. Their "plant-based" section was literally a couple of boxes of tofu and some sliced tofurky. It's really a disappointment that they can't do better, and that with their buying power they can't get more interesting brands and products. My main complaint is that I was lied to by the young men when returning an item. They said they accept their plastic packaging for recycling--plastic bags and plastic sheeting, like their bubble envelopes, are not recyclable in our city's blue bins. So when I came back again for a return, and brought their packaging back to recycle, another employee (who seemed more authoritative) told me they do NOT recycle. Honestly if a company like Amazon can't do their part about plastic waste, there is no hope. read more

I haven't been inside. My review is about the pick up service. It's rather smooth. Theough the app, you let them know when you are about 10 min away, check-in when you get there and they come out pretty much 30 seconds after that. The pick up area is in the back. The signage isn't very good to direct you where to go. It was hard to find the first time I went, but once you know, you know. The one thing I don't like is that they give you paper bags without handles. I always have to transfer them to other bags in order to take them into my house. read more

still horrified At this amazon( if you use the cashiers) if you use self check out or delivery, you'll be fine but again the time came where I needed to use one of the checkout or so I thought because there was a deal posted, and I didn't know if I'd be able to do it myself on the self check out -----well let me tell you that would be the wrong thing to do!!!! When I grabbed a pastry , there was a sign above it that said if you get a pure leaf tea along with the pastry it would be $3 so I purposely went and got a pure leaf tea. when I went to the cashier she had no idea what sign I was talking about or what deal I was talking about ....and I told her that it was on a sign. and she said "well I would have no idea about that because that's not my department" so sorry but you're a cashier for the whole entire store so really every department is your department . she was rude and she started to ring me up normally and i had to stop her to say that I want the $3 deal that's on the sign .....She said she had no idea what the deal was so I had to walk throughout the store and go and take a picture of the sign (do u work there ???) and bring it to her. She had a horrible attitude and she rung up only half of my items and said your total is six dollars. I looked at everything that I had and I said "only six dollars"? and she said "oh .....did you want to buy everything?" ummmm... yeah VIVIAN.... yes I do want to buy everything that I put down on the conveyor belt to purchase. I don't want to just buy a few items. tf?? so she has an attitude and she's being strange and then she rung up the free fruit (they have a huge sign in the produce section where children can grab a free fruit and I had two children with me) and so when I saw she rung me up for that i said OH NOW U ALSO CHARGED ME FOR A FREE ITEM ......she didn't say anything and she said here's your receipt and I said """"I'm sorry but did you hear me?""" I'm surprised she once again didn't say that it wasn't her department but she said "yeah I heard you" and then started ringing up the next person so she was happy to let me know that she didn't care what deals are posted in the store and she was happy to ring me up for something that was supposed to be free. I love shopping at Amazon fresh Encino. Especially after their remodel. Now it is my one stop market to go to. Has everything I need! Everyone is super friendly, kind and helpful. Management has created a great team! The # 1 employee in my book is Justina. She's just amazing and loves what she does and it shows. Let's not forget all the discounts I get as a prime number!! Do I recommend this store .... Mmmmmaybe. But it left me confused as to the niche that it provides ... being nestled in a neighborhood that has great stores like Trader Joe's, Gelsons, Smart and Final and Ralph's ... with CostCo a drive away - but relatively close as well. Someone remarked that the primary purpose may be as a valley hub for Amazon Fresh delivery shoppers? Sounds about right ... My initial purpose in coming to this store was simply to return an Amazon purchase - and once I found the Amazon window at the back left side of the store - my return was practically as easy as it was at the Whole Foods entrance kiosk in Burbank. Navigating the entrance to this store, however - was a bit confusing for a first timer. My guess at the answer to my "niche" is that there is a little initial setup "pain" for the promise of future "convenient" and quick in's and out's. The parking at the store was easy and close, but my initial impression of the interior was sparse and completely lacking warmth - and not in a modern, attractive way. Very black and polished concrete. My guess as to why this may be is probably for camera scan-ability. I bobbled at the front entrance for about 3-4 minutes trying to pull up my app code to scan in and when I attempted to ask an employee for directions on how to scan in or where to find the Amazon return window she was apparently too engrossed talking on her phone to acknowledge or answer my questions. The next crowd of 6 workers in the fresh produce - however - were able to point me in the right direction. There certainly were what seemed like an abundance of store workers milling about the store ... but unlike almost any other store I have ever encountered - they seemed more chatty with each other vs busying themselves stocking - etc. I'm not trying to be a hater - but it seemed like a lot of college kids milling about the store unsupervised or without a manager to provide direction. When I go in to a typical grocery - they don't have half the number of workers milling throughout the store - BUT SHELVES are actually fully stocked with ample variety and options. Just seemed odd to me. Like many other reviewers - I too noticed the lack of stocked shelves and variety that I typically would gravitate to at my Ralph's or Gelsons (ex. my unsweetened Better Half coffee creamer) ... my natural cat litter (World's Best) ... BUT we could certainly find all the basic items we were looking for ... and more. My friend also remarked about how lovely and cheap the produce was. When I asked her impressions of the store - her quote was that she "hated it," and that "it felt dead inside." I have to agree. Will I return ... maybe. Especially if I want to quickly return an Amazon item. Would I go out of my way? Probably not unless they made some true changes that allowed me to favorably differentiate them over nearby competitors. **Pro tip ... if you come with a shopping partner - you BOTH need to come in through the same gate or the technology won't be able to track what you throw into your basket ... requiring you both to go through a checker - which in my mind defeats why you would come here in the first place. read more

First time trying out Amazon Fresh, and I will never enter again. Almost made me cancel my Amazon prime membership. So embarrassing for Amazon. From start to finish a bad experience. First having to enter a scan code, just to get through guard gates and into the store, then trying to get past the trolleys of stockers parked down every few rows, to finding an underwhelming selection of foods at overly expensive prices, and finally, at the checkout having to again present a QR code and finding they don't do phone pay. Amazing they've remained in business this long. Hardly any shoppers in the store. It won't be long before this failed attempt is gone. read more

Just left this store. The person at the register, who I'm sure is a decent person, packed a hot item I got in one of their flimsy paper grocery bags. When I got home, I took the bag out of the car and all my groceries shot right out the bottom and onto the ground. The hot item had leaked, I guess, and destroyed the bottom of the bag with it. What a waste. Amazon Fresh, please find sturdier bags or some better way of bagging hot items in with the rest of the items. I bought produce that spilled out all onto the ground. Not happy. ------ Update: Went back to store. (Amazon makes it impossible to call a store directly.) I was not happy having to sit through bumper-to-bumper freeway traffic to return, but the manager was kind and responsive, refunded my money and replaced the food on them (including giving me a reusable bag). He understood this was more of an operational issue and not personal to their employees, which is good. Revising the review up to two whole stars! As for the operation, please, please get studier paper bags for people who forget to bring in their reusable ones. It's a disservice to customers to have ones with the consistency of Kleenex, but also not fair to the employees who have to bear the brunt of angry customers for something that's basically out of their control. I like this former Ralphs, but not crazy about it. As others have mentioned, the inventory is not that great, and most prices aren't anything to go out of your way for (although they do benefit when comparing it to the Gelsons across the street) But it is convenient and quick, and the walk-out checkout is very cool, and any errors on the receipt have been corrected promptly, probably by someone halfway around the world. Even on the day before Thanksgiving, not a lot of foot traffic. read more

Do we trust Milk with Jeff Bezos name on it? Not Sure. Amazon Fresh is a novelty and I truly do not see them lasting unless they do a complete overhaul of their pricing and make the store feel warmer/friendlier. The prices were WEIRD. Some things were incredibly inexpensive (I think bananas were .15, but a lot of name-brand products were marked up as if I were shopping at Gelsons. Honestly, I think Whole Foods is cheaper for most of the products. There was a jar of MaraNatha almond butter for $22 lol. I noticed that a lot of products with multiple flavors were priced differently- which is unusual. Overall it was an interesting experience but the prices were just not right. I'd probably go back every once in awhile but I'm not adding it to my rotation any time soon. read more

We have been traveling all around the valley going to really expensive restaurants and feeling really let down by the less than fresh less than tasty dishes they prepare, still they find no reason not to charge you exorbitant prices . Along comes Amazon fresh with nourishing, hot great tasting food... No, no, and NO!!!! All I've had was terrible experiences here. I came in to return a pair of jeans I got from Amazon since it was close to my job and it was convenient for me to go after work. I went to where the return area is and the lady in front of me was checking out all her groceries out there which confused me since you can just walk out and Amazon will charge you. Whatever, not a big deal, I waited. I turned my head for one second because I had a feeling someone was following me in the store (which they were, but I'll get to that in a second) when I turned my head back the worker snapped her fingers at me and gestured me over but as if she was annoyed that I even came into the line. Like I know customer service can be frustrating sometimes, I work in customer service. But you don't have to snap at me or be rude to me, I did nothing to you. She barely acknowledged me, scanned my item and went to another customer. I then start getting followed by a man in his later 30's (white shirt, cargo pants, and two huge tattoos and each one of his calves) and starts filming me in the store!!! No workers said a word or tried to stop him. One of the workers in the front was kind enough to walk me out and watch me drive off but multiple workers witnessed this man following me and not one came up to say something. I will NEVER be going to this Amazon fresh and I have stopped supporting amazon as a whole. I know I'm only one person and it won't make a difference but I hope this reaches some people. read more

So much for the cashier-less grocery store of the future! While Amazon Fresh is a quick and convenient option to grocery shop using the scan code and avoid waiting in line, I've experienced issues with the process. I've shopped here 6 times and 2x there's been discrepancies on my itemized receipt. Today, charged $17.58 for 2 six-packs of Smart Water! I didn't even shop the beverage aisle. Didn't touch any bottled water. Anywhere! Shopped and left store at 11:55 am. Received itemized receipt at 3:28 pm. Immediately noticed billing error on the water. Tried to submit refund request online, system was "unavailable". Went about my business. Tried again later, got refunded for the water at 9:37 pm. Quite a lot of follow up for a mistake I had nothing to do with. On an earlier trip in Feb '23 when I picked up a carton of Land o'Lakes Heavy Whipping cream to read the label and then returned to dairy case, I was charged for the cream even though it never made it into my shopping cart. Had to waste time calling customer service to dispute $3.99. This location had more store employees (none of them seemed happy to be there) than shoppers in it today. One employee working an aisle seemed annoyed when I reached for an item on the shelf in fact. Store is dimly lit. Shelves are minimally stocked and brand selections limited. I bought the next to last jar of Skippy peanut butter today and saw expired salad kits still on the produce shelves. Bought the very last bag of shredded cheese - mozzarella the only variety of cheese available - when I shopped there 2 weeks ago. Amazon Fresh is an experiment that's not working well. They push prime membership yet i rarely order fm amazon, i now use walmart, and i WOULD become a prime member if the groceries and adverts in paper were not so in credibly deceptive. Today i went there for filet mignon special $14.99 lb. Of course... like EVERYTIME (6x ) before that i was lured into the bait and switch/ amazon used car dealership, no filet mignon. I asned the lady to please check the back. The Staff is very nice, the selection is ALWAYS awful, picked over no matter what time you go. Self serve pizza bar replaced from human beings. The new system takes so long, the carts are heavy to push, the convenience of getting in and out quickly is gone. I may have to stop coming here all together. Really disappointing as the quickness of getting in and out was the main reason to go to this store. I buy less fruits and vegetables there as you have to sit and weigh everything and it takes a long time, often with the machine, Miss scanning or telling you you made a mistake when you didn't. It is super uncomfortable, you cannot walk in there without being hovered at least twice by an employee. I know they are trying to help, but it is very awkward when they just stand over you and stare. This store really offers a bad shopping experience. read more

Tried the store for the first and last time. Many of the aisles were half stocked with items, staff overall appeared to be unhappy, lacked smiles and general courtesy. The one and only cashier was having trouble with the customer in front of me and rather than call a manger over to help she tried to resolve it, causing the customer to put back items and hold up the line. When I turned around there were 6+ people behind me and the staff standing nearby did nothing to open another register. Never thought I say this, but I miss Ralph's. Amazon, get it together. You have the money and power to pull this off...and you failed miserably. read more

Came into this location again since I was already at CVS and needed some things from the grocery store. I like that I'm able to find what I need and the prices are competitive. I'm just not sure why I still can't just shop without having to associate these purchases with my Amazon account. Just feels to invasive and while it may be helpful to a majority of shoppers to be marketed to based on their selections, it's odd for me with Amazon. Service is so-so. CUSTOMER SERVICE ABYSMAL! I had a coupon and Melanie, who said she was manager, REFUSED TO TAKE IT. She was rude, dismissive and I was shocked. Again I showed her the coupon and she refused. I know FOR A FACT that I and several of my coworkers have used coupons. It was not expired. This is a brand new store. You would think they would honor a tiny coupon. Their technology sucks. Went last Saturday, got my groceries, brought my little promotional coupon, and walked out. Thought it was a bit weird, but kinda cool... Then, 3 hours later, I got the receipt. I was double charged for multiple items, and my $20 coupon didn't go through. Tried to call the store. Got redirected to a call center. They did reimburse the duplicate charges, and said they would give me a $20 Amazon credit. Come Monday, still no credit, so I called again. This time I was told I would have to go back to the store to get my credit. So annoying. And that's not even mentioning the numerous out of stock items, high prices, slow staff, and thousands of creepy cameras dangling from the ceiling. Needless to say, first and last time. I love this grocery store. As a mother with 2 small children I can scan my phone and get in and out without the hassle of checkout lines. It has most of the food I want. The meat, vegetables and the fruit are reasonably priced compared to other grocery stores, and we rarely have any issues with billing (They're also very quick about fixing it if there is a mistake.) There's also plenty of parking, and the spaces a decent size which is a luxury in LA. This is by far my favorite grocery store because of convenience. read more

I was looking forward to a new shopping option. But Amazon Fresh is a FAIL! Lots of items are mislabeled (little pies were advertised as coleslaw!) and there are no prices on many items. So, when I selected something without a price, I was forced to go through the checkout aisle, or who the heck knows what I'd be charged? But, the cashier said since I initially checked in with my code, I might be charged twice for every item! So, I had to put everything back in my basket and exit through the auto-charge section, with no idea what I was being charged for the item with no price. Had I decided to buy alcohol (a hassle, since you get ID'd at that section) I would have to go through the "real' checkout, and risk getting charged double for everything! How does that make sense? Also, was looking forward to buying some pre-made items. I was shopping at about 6:30 pm, and expected a good selection. But it was an aisle of nothing but empty metal shelves and pans. It looked like a morgue! Finally, starving, I decided to buy one of the two pieces of pizza remaining, but the clerk told me I couldn't and (right in front of me) dumped both of them in the trash. Overall, selection is quite limited and prices are higher than those at Ralph's. This was a truly sucky shopping experience. UPDATE: Just got my receipt, and they charged me for "Cuisine Solutions Sous Vide Sliced Grass-Fed Beef Sirloin" that I didn't order, yay, now I get to try and deal with customer service. I can't believe this ridiculous store took 2- 1/2 years to open. Tried it for the first time last night. The produce is ok but not very impressive. Doesn't look very good. Meats and dairy seemed normal. But you get over to where the "ready-to-eat" good is -- the deli, sushi, hot foods, salad bar -- and it's very underwhelming. First off, I stood at the sushi counter for at least 2 minutes -- made eye contact with three separate employees and no one could be bothered to come over and help me. Then I turned to the "hot food" section. It was 6:15pm and it was all put away. Why? Don't people getting off work want to buy that food? I know I did. I found a manager. He was nice enough but had no explanation about why they put it all away so early. I also noted it was time to checkout and they had one lane open. I wasn't in the mood to be the 7th person in line. And the manager clearly wasn't paging others on the team to come quickly and open some more lanes. So I left. I said to the manager, you can put the stuff in my cart back on the shelf and there's frozen stuff so I would do it sooner rather than later. Amazon was once a smart company. They wouldn't be where they are today had they not been clever and well run. Now, sadly, they're a big fat stupid company that has mediocre people planning the grocery stores with little forethought. Maybe that poor service and dumb planning serves them well in Bumfuck, ND but it doesn't play well in So Cal where we recognize better grocery shopping experiences. Ive been an Amazon customer since 1999. But I will not be back there. I miss the Ralph's that used to be there. This was not a welcome change. read more
