My 5 year old has had 4 crowns put on him and STILL loves to go to the dentist because of the care he receives when we're there. I've been a persistent customer of Dr. Shultz since I was a child, I am now 18, and I find this business to be ridiculous. They always bring up pulling teeth, fillings or crowns, etc, even though I clearly brush very well and have never had any cavities. The assistant that would also clean my teeth, would make me bleed, and once she flossed and picked at my permanent retainer so hard it broke the next day. Do not recommend. read more

I 100% agree with the negative reviews of Dr Shultz. I've been bringing my 5 kids in for the last few years, subjecting them and me to his judgments and rude assumptions at each appointment. Let's be real here...I have normal kids...they brush their teeth daily, floss occasionally, eat lots of fruits and veggies, they eat maybe a few gummies or candy daily, maybe a few ounces of soda daily, if any at all. You know...they're kids, right? And their dad and I do our best. This guy, and one particular hygienist, CONSTANTLY harass me and my kids about the way they {assume} they brush, floss, and eat. Even on our "good" appointments, where nothing is wrong, he STILL lectures to my kids and myself in a condescending way. PLEASE do not take your children here ever. My autistic son was seen by Dr S years ago and he was horrible to me and my son. He was abrasive with him and rude and demeaning to me as a parent. I was shocked and should of walked out. But he stated my son had 12 cavities! So he did 4 molars but it was so traumatic we stopped. A new dentist reviewed his records and said there were 4 at most. I was furious. And the way he criticized my parenting was unacceptable. I'm writing this now because my son is now 20 and is having to get all 4 molars that Dr S did redone. That's right, they all have cavities under the filings. This "Dr" needs to have his credential removed and reported to the state. No child should have to suffer by the hand of this guy. read more

Very rude to parents. Billed for services not received. And completely traumatized my 3 year old. She had no issues with ABC Dentistry. Our insurance changed so I brought my daughter here. He was terrible. Talked down to me, belittled my daughter for crying. Made her mouth bleed heavily because of how forceful he was. He continued to blame me and tell me she wasn't well behaved and to stop feeding her fruit gummy snacks and candy. Wtf? I don't feed her these things and explained to him she has enamel hypoplaysia. He ignored me Insisting it was fruit snacks. Said she needed anesthesia and 6 stainless steel crowns. She didn't. We went back to ABC who did a little bonding in 2 back molars. I have been taking my kids to Amazing Kids for a couple of years now. I was really surprised because they are both well under 8 and both have needed extensive dental work, despite being given clean bills of health from my former dentist. My husband and I have strong enamel, and I floss, brush, and rinse their teeth with a fluoride solution every single day. How did this happen to MY kids? The office is adorable, the staff are pleasant. The dentist's chair-side manner is... rather unusual, in my experience. I feel that twice-per-year x-rays for children are excessive. I've been told, "you get more radiation walking out to your car" more times than I can count - it seems to be an industry-wide talking point and to that I say, "if it is completely harmless, why do you hide behind a wall when you take them?" I refused them for my kids at our last appointment because we'd just had them 6 months earlier. I felt yearly x-rays were a good compromise, even though that still seems like a lot to me. The staff disagreed with me and pointed out that I have 2 insurance plans and that x-rays were covered. "It is not about money to me; I don't want medically unnecessary radiation in my kids growing brains and thyroids." It was pointed out that my daughter DID have a questionable tooth, so I allowed them to x-ray her... but they didn't stop at the one area, they did a full round of bite wings. I held my tongue, but I was pretty upset. We returned for her work a month or so later. Before they began, the staff whisked her away from me and did a full panoramic x-Ray. I was so upset I could hardly speak. I said, "Are panoramic x-rays necessary to have cavities filled?" "No," they said. "It's just routine at her age." I will not be back. They didn't have to agree with me. They could have explained why I was wrong and they were right. They could have told me about walking to my car in the sun being more hazardous to my health than dental x-rays... but they didn't. They just took my daughter from me and deliberately disregarded my rights as a parent. Would they have done this if I had not been insured? I would bet not. The money they get from these x-rays must be obscene because come hell or high water... or brain or thyroid cancer, they're going to take those images if it's the last thing they do.... Forget it. Not my kids. I'll go find a dentist who honors my medical rights. I do not trust someone who doesn't. read more

I feel like dentists don't get the love they deserve so this review is well overdue. Dr Shults is a true professional. He knows his stuff. He discovered my son's cavities last year and went ahead and fixed them. My son's dental health has improved grealty and that's due to Dr Shults persistence and emphasis of taking good care of my son's teeth early in order to prevent major issues in the future. If you happen to have any Community plan of insurance he will definitely make you feel beneath him. He has recommended that two children of mine needed braces. Before Covid happened and again today. He made the comment of my daughter getting braces but if I couldn't afford them then she can do it when she gets older and pay for them herself. At that moment I felt offended because of the manner of his comment but I just let it roll off as he was examining her teeth. I took my younger children out to the car as I waited for my oldest to be done with his appointment. When my son came into the car he told me the reason why he can't get braces is because Dr. Shultz told him that his mother couldn't afford them. That is not something that you discuss with a 13-year-old boy!! Larry Shultz has a way of making you feel like you are beneath him and not a good parent. He is very unprofessional and if you like to be talked down upon then by all means be a patient of this man but one thing is for sure I will NOT be taking my four children back to this man. read more

Traumatizing for all three of my children! He is the most arrogant, rude dentist. His only recommendation is pulling their teeth. I didn't know what else to do, and he makes you feel stupid if you disagree with him, so we did it and I regret it to this day. This was years ago, and we never went back after how he treated me and my children. Dr. Shults was amazing with my daughter. She needed quite a few things done and he explained everything very throughly. Any questions were answered, and my family felt very comfortable. Some places we've went to before tries to get more money out of patients and I can honestly say I did not feel that way here. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Turner and his assistant were also great. He explained everything that would happen to my daughter as she was being put to sleep, very helpful after the procedure. Please listen to these negative reviews as they pay to take the bad ones down. This is one of the last Pediactric offices I would choose to take my own children to. Larry treats his employees with nothing but degrading remarks and no care or respect for anyone, this goes for patients and parents too. He's well aware of how underpaid his employees are and does nothing about it and continues to want to add more jobs. He's extremely money hungry and makes all of his decisions off that. He will tell you that he's helping you financially when he's really helping himself trying to get you to spend more money on an appointment. When children are being typical children, he man handles them in the dentist chair and I'm always shocked by how many parents don't say or do anything. During treatments especially without parents in the room, he's very aggressive with the children and if they're crying, he will pinch their lips shut and talk down to them in their ear. If they're struggling or fussing around he will wrestle them down to the chair but only if the parent is not in the room and it makes the assistants extremely uncomfortable. I question how we had families come back after he extremely degraded them at their last appointment. I understand educating patients and parents on oral health because that's what we're there for as dental professionals, but the way Larry talks down to parents or younger patients is disgusting and shocking how someone in the dental field for years gets away with speaking to people the way he does. He will constantly make u feel like you're wrong and tells he's employees everyday to take accountability but almost never takes his own. Throughout my years of working with him, there were employees constantly leaving due to the lack of respect from Larry Shults himself. With parents, patients, and staff, he belittles you and doesn't give you a chance to speak, constantly controlling the conversation. He is incredibly greedy and has no respect for those around him. We are so fortunate to have Dr. Shults taking care of our 3 kids. My daughter has had multiple visits to get her teeth ready for braces. Dr. Shults takes time to explain each procedure, answers any questions we have and follows up with a call to check on her. How to even start this review... After taking my kids here several times the last check up I was told one of my kids had several cavities and that they would have to put her under to do this procedure. I asked why we couldn't go the less abrasive way because my daughter does get put under many times due to other reasons . I wasn't given much of an answer, something seemed off to me about this but still I went and scheduled. Due to another procedure she has to have done I wanted her to be able to be put under once and not twice so I went to look for a different pediatric dentist that treated at one of the Children's Hospitals . After her having a consultation with the new dentist I was informed that she only has half the cavities I was previously told and that she was a good candidate to do regular oral sedation( which she had done and went great) I am extremely disappointed in amazing kids ! My daughter already goes through enough with all of her other issues and us as parents put trust in doctors that they will do what is best for them . I've learned my lesson I'm going to continue to go with my gut when something feels off. I hope that you guys reevaluate the way you go about doing things , I am really hoping that the reason behind the way you guys went about this wasn't to make some extra cash. read more

Dr. Schultz is very rude to parents and to patients. He tries to use shame based methods to make children and parents feel bad about oral health. He never reads the chart and tries to tell me the same thing each time. He threatened to bill me personally if a spacer came out, even though he should know that is illegal under AHCCCS rules. Truthfully, I do NOT recommend Dr. Schultz. I gave this review 2 stars is because the office staff was very patient and friendly but most importantly I wanted this review to be posted on the front page! I came here because I read great reviews. Unfortunately I did not read the "unrecommended reviews" (Those are located on the bottom of every page) until after my visit. Dr. Schultz recommended $2800 of work. He said my four-year-old needed to have his two front teeth pulled because there was an extra tooth growing out of his gums. He said my 4 year old son needed 6 crowns. He also needed anesthesia to put him under for the hour and a half surgery. I was horrified. I was so upset I started to cry. He told me to use the knowledge as "empowerment" so I do not make the same mistake with my other child. He also stated that I brushed one of my child's teeth better than the others. There were a few other passive aggressive things he stated to me but I would like to get to the point. I feel like he did not care about my sons future. Dr Shultz wanted to pull out his two front teeth to surgically remove the extra tooth. That means he would have no two front teeth until my son turned seven. Lucky for me they had a cancellation last Monday and they could get me in to do $2800 of work. Honestly, it was not about the money, it was about the fact they had no other options. He said he didn't even know if he could save some of my sons molars. My son would've been toothless with a mouthful of metal!!! Luckily, I made an appointment for a second opinion at East Valley pediatric dentistry in Gilbert. There I had an amazing experience and they are not going to pull out his two front teeth until he's about six years old. He will have a few crowns but not six and a few cavities filled. As a new parent and first time patient, it would have been nice if he would have explained what he was doing before hand and asked my permission to do unnecessary fluoride treatment on my son. Great dentist. Love the desk staff. They have great operating hours and days. Everyone is super friendly and competent. Their patience with children is admirable. They make it a fun place for the kids. My only somewhat negative commentary would be that the dentist can be somewhat patronizing. He talks to you like you're a 3rd grader. I went to college. I was an Honors grad majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I read medical textbooks for fun. I'm not a dummy by any means. I know the importance of good dental hygiene. Also, I don't think he's ever positively commented on my kids' teeth even when they're cavity free. My 3.5 year old son has never had a cavity, but he chooses to comment on how to better brush his teeth, how he has a crossbite, and how he shouldn't drink so much milk and drink more water. We get 7am appointments, so I can get my daughter to school on time. Of course my son's drinking milk at 7am. It's breakfast time! He acted like I let him drink milk all day long and at bed time, which I absolutely do not. With my daughter, it's kind of the same thing except she's more cavity prone. I would think he'd be more congratulatory when she went 2 visits without a cavity. She's been working hard at it. But no. Nothing. Not even a high five for her hard work. However, he does do excellent dental work. He's a perfectionist with that, so I try my best to ignore the awkward bedside manner and appreciate his dental talent. This office is hands down the best dentist we have ever been to! Anyone considering using this office should not hesitate, you won't be disappointed!! My only complaint is that they don't do adult dental work because I would bring my whole family in for care!! :) My first experience with this office was after my 11 year old son had a biking accident. The hospital he was taken to recommended this office. From the minute we walked in they were welcoming and helpful. They made my son feel comfortable and talked him through each step of the exam, they provided me with options for payment as well as options for care. It was obvious that the care of my son was the most important thing to them. The work he performed was not only top notch but innovative and the follow-up was amazing. Woohoo! As good as it gets! [Yelp said it better than I could!] Took my 3 little boys (ages 6, 4, and 2) to the Dentist. What a nightmare, right? To my absolute shock, all 3 of them actually actually enjoyed it. Yah the TV's on the ceiling and bouncy balls they get to keep at the end are great 'n all...but when it comes right down to it, my kids just love everything about the office. The front office ladies are super nice, the office is new and clean, and Dr. Shults truly is amazing with the kids (pardon the pun). They seemingly had no idea they were going to the dentist. That was completely overshadowed by the star-wars-looking "space" machine that takes their pictures inside their mouth (which they got to also see on a TV), and the awesome "sunglasses" they get to wear while getting their teeth checked out by Dr. Shults. What we like about Dr. Shults is that he isn't one of those Dentists that will tell you what you want to hear - that your kid's teeth are perfect, you're a perfect parent, and you don't have to do a thing (ahem, a couple of the not-so-great-reviews he got before this). But by the same token, he won't do unnecessary work either. Yah, he did recommend and do some of those preventative cavity-fills to help prevent future issues, which I'm sure other dentists wouldn't have worried so much about - but we were ultimately glad he did. Like others, we were originally concerned about paying money for teeth that wouldn't be around in a couple years, but Dr. Shults educated us on how important baby teeth actually are. And overall, his prices are very reasonable for those who don't have insurance either. Highly recommended! read more

Just awesome. My not quite two year old daughter had her first dentist appointemnt and the staff here was great. They were friendly to my wife and I in the waiting room and my daughter had a blast on the toys. Took my 16 month old because he had chipped his tooth on our tile. I was able to have him seen that day! Everyone there was so nice and they made the experience as fun as possible for my little guy.
