Great experience at Amaya last night! A couple of friends recommended we come here while in CDMX, so we went for my boo's birthday. We started with the soft shell crabs and ceviche. I loved the ceviche-the tortilla at the bottom gave it a nice crunch and the spice level added an unexpected kick, which we liked. We shared the pan-roasted sea bass and the steak. The steak was outstanding - the cut and the grilling. If you don't like it too rare though, you might want to specify that to the waiter. The side potatoes were delicious, too! We ended with the berliners which were okay.I really wanted to try their profiterol, but I think I missed it on the menu and we had the berliners instead. I am going back again for their cocktails. The mezcal drinks were on point! We tried two different cocktails, and both highlighted different aspects of the types of mezcal. The tequila cocktail was also divine. I was so into the cocktails that I forgot to taste their natural wines, which were highly recommended. We'll be back again to try them, for sure. Finally, our waiter was great! He was fun and informative, helping us with the cocktail selection and suggesting certain dishes off the menu. He even sang happy birthday with me to my fiancée :) read more

Amaya has great food. It's some of the best you can get in the area but you need to know what to expect going in. I was the second person in the door and ordered a rice plate. They warned me and they were right, it takes 40-45 minutes to get a rice plate out. It was delicious, and I can appreciate the freshness, but that's a terribly long time to wait. Minus the wait I was asked half a dozen times if I wanted a drink which was maybe too attentive of the waitstaff. So it's a great choice for food, just know you might be waiting a bit. read more

Not bad of a location for vegetarian food as there are a few options. They are probably known for their alcohol selection since they have a nice bar. Staff knows English so that was really helpful. Food selection seems really healthy, but with small portion sizes. In terms of food, we ordered the following: 1. Baked sweet potato, coastal chile tahini and hard-boiled egg 2. Roasted vegetables and poached egg (1) was actually quite good. Crunchy, sweet, but a small portion size. I'd order this again if I were to return. (2) simple, roasted veggies with a poached egg in the middle. small portion size again. Service: The staff was very kind and helped us with choosing our options. He iterated multiple times to make sure that we were okay with the ingredients. Service alone deserves a star. Again, probably a good place for the bar, but food wise might be limited for vegetarians. read more

WOW Typical Mexico ... they can make even the most simplest thing amazing ! Sat el fresco in a quaint side street setting , steps from the frenetic Paseo Reforma. Service was totally attentive and English spoken with no problem. I had the pork sausage & potato salad - very tasty ! And the cinnamon cake for dessert - WOW! Came here based on watching "Somebody Feed Phil" and therefore had high expectations. Overall the service and food was pretty good especially the ceviche tostada and the fried cauliflower and broccoli was delicious. However the homemade pasta with shrimp, soft shell crab, and squid entree we ordered did not come with any crab or squid. It only had shrimp which was super disappointing since it wasn't as listed on the menu. Taste wise it was just an okay dish, tasting more of Asian lo mein than Italian pasta. read more

The food here is very delicious and made a lasting impression. Even the simplest of dishes seems to be elevated or edited in some small way to become gourmet excellence. You can enjoy good cuisine in a pretty casual yet trendy environment. I got the pesto pasta and I was not disappointed. It was very filling and had great, fresh flavor. Plus, with a side of fresh made bread to soak up the leftover pesto- you can't beat it! They offer indoor seating or a few outdoor tables on the street, which can get a little loud with the traffic driving by. But overall, it was a wonderful experience and not too expensive considering how full I was afterwards. If you even want to just come here for some drinks with friends, they have a beautiful bar area and an extensive drinks menu. Fantastic. We had the butternut squash soup with chunks of squash included. Seasoned with fennel and other spices. Delicious. Next we had the soft shell crab with beef tratar. The crab was deep fried perfectly and the tartar compliments it perfectly. Next we had the homemade fettuccine with beef ragú. The fettuccine was smothered in a braised beef sauce. Lastly and the best was the pannacotta Perfectly set with an amazing sherbet type of topping. read more

Try the beef ragú. It is amazing and special. Wasn't too excited for the chicken was a tad dry, but the ragú was the star of the show.

Came here for dinner at the bar and man the food is good. Ordered a soft shell crab along with sausage and potato salad. My friend got the gnocchi which was super good too. All of the food tasted fresh and can't say that one of the dishes was a clear winner for favorite that night. They each had something we liked. Ohhhh man!!! Muy delicioso!! We just saw this on Somebody Feed Phil and had to come. We came and it was so calm and not too crowded. Our host was one of the best I've met anywhere. Very knowledgeable of the food and spoke great English in addition to Spanish. We had the amazing soft shell crab and the braised lamb. Please please please try these dishes if you're in the area. Another AMAZING local real Mexican restaurant. We made reservations and on a cold Monday night the place was packed. That is such a good sign. WE sat by the giant window and it was full of smilles and laughter. So we ordered way too much but had to have it all. The soft sHell ctabs were Perfect and maybe rice flour cooked in ? It was crispy . Then the fish tostada again two of them so good. Thenn toasted corn ! Sooooo good and flavorful and none of it was insane Spicey. Roasted chicken and cooked wiith small potatoes and carrots and a light brown gravy. Finally desert Pistachio strawberry crumble aooooo good. Americans beware of the bait and switch at this place. Don't bother making a reservation at this overly hyped restaurant featured on Netflix's "somebody feed Phil" as the manager randomly discriminates and decides if you get a table in the restaurant or sit in the bar once you arrive. This is unfortunate as the staff seems to work hard and they definitely deserve better. The manager needs to be replaced for her repulsive behavior. Way better options in cdmx! read more

Food here was superb with excellent service. Imagine the best quality innovative gourmet food you can find in San Francisco or New York but with half the prices. We got the soft shell crab, totoada, fish tostadas, corn and the shrimp dish, and everything was excellent. I'd say the fried soft shell crab was a highlight. On my short President's day trip here this was an absolute gem for the taste buds. Bordering on the finer side of dining, the dishes here aim for quality over quantity... which is a shame when it came to the ceviche appetizers. At first I was skeptical about it being served on a tostada chip but after the first bite I could have easily just ordered a couple more of these and called it a day. As we ate at the restaurant I wondered how many people were here because of Somebody Feed Phil. The restaurant is small and cozy with a good atmosphere. We really enjoyed our meal here! I was so excited for the soft shell crab (recommend in the show and by reviews) and it was pretty good but didn't blow my mind. The menu is small and refined with a wide variety of options. was here about a year ago. really spectacular. as good as it gets at this price point. an extremely fine attention to detail. spent about $15-$20 USD per person on food for really high-quality comida. my friends have been recently and loved it as well. can't wait to return the next time that I'm in Mexico City. this place would be WAY more popular if it were in Condesa, Roma, or Polanco; and perhaps far more expensive. Ordered the espresso martini, it was delicious. Started off with the ceviche and soft shell crab. Ceviche was some of the best that I've ever had. Came with a fried fish which was fantastic. Soft shell crab had good flavor with a bit of a sweet sauce, was a bit squishy consistency. But otherwise tasty. Also had he warm mushroom salad, which was very tasty. Mushrooms were warm and kale was almost crispy and fried. Last, we split the gnocchi. Odd to order gnocchi in Mexico City, but it was great. I went twice to Amaya. The first time I went I didn't have a reservation but they found me a seat and I really enjoyed my meal (roast chicken) and drinks (Si nos dejan). I returned my last night in town and enjoyed it again. Service was great and very friendly and I had great meal. If you're staying on or near Reforma, I would highly recommend it. read more

Considering the ratings, Amaya just didn't live up. For a "wine bar" having only 3 red options by the glass and all served quite warm meant I was already off to a frustrating start. The restaurant is cozy and inviting. The bartender was very polite and accommodating. I appreciate the smaller menu size too. Starting off on a very strong note, the soft shell crab appetizer was amazing. Seriously amazing. It was so good I was excited to try more! But then it happened, the big let down the lamb sausage sandwhich was dry! Not juicy as a sausage should be, but completely dry and overspiced. The radish salad it was served with added nothing. It's only dressing was vinegar, nothing else. No full grain mustard or sauce, etc. So I moved on to the meat dumplings. I LOVE dumplings so I was excited but it was just not on point. The flavors were muddled and bland without any prominent flavors just like a bit of mush in beefy gravy. There's always a chance there are far better items available but that's what I tried. And based on my meal, I'd only go back for the soft shell crab and I'd definitely bring my own red wine to go with it. read more

I'll start off by saying the food here was amazing! I had the roasted cauliflower, avocado hummus and Roma tomatoes as well as the grilled lettuce, eggplant hummus and idiazabal cheese. They were both amazing, but the cheese in the grilled eggplant hummus was probably the best cheese I've ever tried. It seems that most of their dishes are small plates which I love, so you might want to order two different things. If you have the choice, sit in the front dining room! We sat in the back which had a boring atmosphere and almost seemed like a different restaurant compared to the front. Overall great place! read more

We had a 7:45PM reservation for 2 on a Saturday night and were very excited for it. The front room seemed crowded and upbeat but we were taken to the back room where we were basically by ourselves for most of our meal. We had a delicious tomato, beets and burratta salad to start, so yummy! We next had the soft shell crab tostada and to be honest I was hoping for more flavor, it was just a bit bland. We then had the gnocchi that was good but it came with A LOT of kale and in the words of my friend, it "tasted healthy." Last was the homemade sausage with potato salad, this was fine but I was so full at this point that I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much. The service was great even though we were in the back room by ourselves they were very attentive and nice. We had really great cocktails and the waiter even recommended another bar for a nightcap. read more

After an exhausting and uncomfortable flight (thanks United), we decided to stay close to our hotel and go to Amaya. Despite the language barriers, the staff was super friendly, attentive, and made an effort to be accommodating to our dietary restrictions. The place had a great selection of wines and the food was delicious, especially the melt in your mouth gnocchi. The panna cotta and profiteroles looked beautiful and tasted great.
