Cicatriz is one of those spots that makes you feel like you just stumbled onto a local secret; it's tucked away in Mexico City with a chill little patio that's perfect for people-watching. You can go for coffee and pan dulce in the morning or enjoy wine and tapas at night. Love that they rotate menus for morning, lunch, and late night. I went in the evening, had a lovely spicy margarita, and tried quite a few of the apps. The vibe is relaxed but polished, the kind of place where you can actually hear your friends talk. read more

What a place. I found myself on a mini creative sabbatical in CDMX, staying on Chapultepec and Insurgentes, right on the Roma Nte / Juarez border. This meant that if I wanted late night vibes, I was going to walk into Juarez. And more often than not, I'd find myself at Cicatriz, chatting with Dan behind the bar. Dan is the man -- chill vibes, always down to chat, and you wouldn't know it, but he's also a very talented skate photographer. I'd usually start with a Yoko, which is their take on an Aperol Spritz -- with Mezcal. Amazing. They have a fantastic selection of artisanal mezcals as well--served with oranges and sal gusano--and there's always a can of beer on the cheap to go with it. A few times they had cute female vinyl DJs spinning Italo Disco. I went to Cicatriz more than any other place in the two weeks I spent in Mexico City. It became a comfortable desintation. The Avena is delicious in the morning and their coffee is bomb. The Sandwich de Pollo Frito will raise your spirits and lunch or dinner time and the Tostada de Ricotta was satisfying too. And being on Glorieta Plaza Washington, you can watch an abundance of humanity moving through the city as you chill and enjoy the scene. All in all, Cicatriz gets my highest recommendation. Cicatriz is a true gem. We wandered in for lunch and ended up having the best meal and coffees of our week. It was so good that we had to come back again later that evening for the refined and creative cocktails and to-die-for dessert. The ambiance is somehow both light and airy, yet also perfectly cozy, day and night. If I could live in a restaurant and eat every meal there, it would be Cicatriz. read more

A friend of mine told me about this cafe, so I dropped over here during the middle of my Sunday bike ride. Since I live about a mile away, it's much easier to get to places on my bike. This cafe is in a section where several other small restaurants and cafes coexist. I definitely liked the vibe of the area, and the cafe as well. It's rather small, and there's no clear signage to indicate your at the right ace, but o ce you find it, it's worth the effort. The have about ten tables inside of the restaurant, as well as, outside in front which is where I sat. We ordered two cafe lattes con me he almond, and it was pretty good. We also ordered a side of toast with marmelada (jelly) sauce. The have good WiFi and there wasn't any loud music going on, which could make it conducive for working. Cicatriz is a trendy coffee shop in a little circular area with other shops and lots of outdoor seating. Needing coffee in the mornings, Cicatriz's high online rating guided us to their coffee bar. We came here every morning during our stay! They have smooth coffee and delicious food (get the braised short rib sandwich, the eggs with tomato salt, and the carrots with herbs+tahini!!!) that's served aside a cute fountain by a parklet. The people are friendly and were very patient with my very novice-level Spanish. We can't wait to be back and I think about it every day! read more

November 20th is a holiday in Mexico City, most restaurants closed early. My fiancé and I were stuck on were to go...luckily we thought about this place which we saw while walking... They have a very small food menu, the fried avocado sandwich was delicious...tons of bread if your watching the carbs lol. My fiancé ordered the fried chicken sandwich & wasn't impressed. And we both decided that the roasted broccoli had good flavor but it was served slightly cold & cooked way too long. I love this place, probably one of my favorite places in Mexico City, you could describe it as a bar, but also stay there for the coffee or the food. It's the kind of place you only discover trough recommendations, and if you know some people in there, you feel truly welcomed. When it comes to drinks, they have a few selection of cocktails, which is not a bad thing, because the bar is mall, and every liquor, spirit and mixer has been finely selected. If cocktails are not your things, they have a great selection of wines, specially natural wines, and the staff knows a lot about the wines they offer, so don't be discouraged to ask for a recommendation. read more

One of my favorite spots in CDMX. Open from 9AM-11PM daily (except Mondays), Cicatriz is an all day cafe that transitions into a hip bar/restaurant in the evenings. Stop by for an expertly prepared cup of coffee and avocado toast in the morning and enjoy some craft cocktails and their renowned fried chicken sandwich at night. Cicatriz also has a variety of greens/salad based dishes, which can be at times more difficult to find in CDMX. Cicatriz would not be out of place in NYC or LA, and has become a go to spot for the cool kids of CDMX. read more

Perfect casual spot for a glass of wine, or coffee, and a bite to eat. Very flavourful and tasty food, good salads, generally a lighter meal. If you're into natural wine this is your spot. Recommend going during the day for people watching and to take in the neighbourhood. They do a brisk business and fill up quickly so don't be surprised if there's a wait. read more

Cicatriz is effectively the Sqirl of Mexico City, but with alcohol. A warm, cozy hip bar servicing market-sourced food that would be a common sight in LA or NY, with Mexican flair. Is there anywhere else in allmpf CDMX to get a kale salad? Methinks not. Besides running a menu that will be comforting to Americans visiting, they also make a killer chicken sandwich that does a wonderful job of soaking up their wonderfully curated collection of alcohol. You can find craft Mexican beers, rare Mexican natural wines (Notable Bichi bottles), absolutely stunning mezcal, and adeptly made cocktails here every night. Actually, if your Spanish is not so good, this is probably the best place in all of CDMX to explore mezcal as one of the owners, Jake, has a vast knowledge of the spirit and curates accordingly. Even if you do speak Spanish fluently this place combines the best of a mezcaleria and a wine bar in one spot. It's also the only place to get a great shot of espresso after you hit the mezcal. If you're visiting Mexico City from big cities like LA or NYC and looking to get out your comfort zone this isn't really the place to go. But if you're looking for something that rings familiar to staples like Sqirl in LA or The Smile in NYC this is the ticket. This was one of the first places we visited on our trip to Mexico City and it instantly felt like we we're in one of the many all-day cafes in Brooklyn (but somewhat less pretentious) and it's apparent that this is the spot where the "cool kids" of CMDX hang out, do work and people watch. The cocktails are pretty good damn great and I love that despite being somewhat of a small they have a extensive and informed bar program. We also had the BLT which was okay (really great focaccia-like bread though) just wayyy too heavy on the aioli. If I ever came back I'd definitely opt for the fried chicken sandwich instead. read more

Highlights were the incredibly friendly people and have to say that the fried avocado (aguacate) sandwich was one of the best things I've ever eaten. (Think avocado tempura). It was quite lively and young at night but during the day more laid back and had a local vibe - but both times it was welcoming. read more

Coolest breakfast spot in Juarez. A must visit for coffee or a meal. We hit it up on our last morning visiting Mexico City. Food and drinks were delicious, especially the homemade juices and toast, and the service was friendly. Even the numerous potted plants and other decorations provided a calming force to the bustle outside. Bring cash, as the card machine was down and there isn't an ATM closeby. read more

There are no seats, this is a standing bar except a few uncomfortable bar stools. Drinks were good, but I expected more. I got the colada and it was good, not too sweet. Almost clarified colada. Everything was very spirit forward which few of our friends really liked. This felt like a one time visit for me in CDMX

It's located inside Barrio Alameda - a very cool, very chill spot just off the craziness of Alameda Central.
