I know it's all the rage and viral. That's why we went. But to be honest...it's a lot of food and like pretty mediocre. But you're not going for amazing quality and flavor. You're going for the hype...or at least that's why we went. Everything is an up-charge. I mean everything. The pasta is ok. The pizza was so salty and floppy. The cheesecake with the fruit compote had like 2-3 blueberries. And maybe a teaspoon of the sauce. The one thing we wanted that wasn't plentiful. Proportions are over the top. Maybe that's the positive if you want a ton of food. But also...you know...quality over quantity. It's not cheap so I can't even really say you get what you pay for, because you pay a lot. I've had Amano saved in my back pocket for a while now for an easy date night, given it's convenient location on the North side. Finally, tonight we were indecisive and decided to give it a try. The location isn't the prettiest from the outside. It's in a weird, gas station-adjacent strip mall. Inside is a surprisingly cozy, eclectic, and casual Italian diner. We made use of the paper mats and colored pencils. I see now why they recommend reservations; Amano is very intimate. We shared the Pasta Pie-zoni, made with the Cindy and the carbonara. The pizza was decent, although I hoped for a more pungent flavor from the gorgonzola and pesto. I couldn't even taste them over the overpowering sweetness from the balsamic glaze and dates. The pasta filled calzone portion was fun. Very salty, soft pasta (not al dente), and dough crusted with parmesean. The highlight was definitely the crust. Not too thick nor too thin, with good flavor and marinara for dipping. The pie-zoni is great for a family of 3 or two very hungry adults. The tiramisu was pretty disappointing, and I'd just skip dessert here altogether. Amano's serves novelty dishes rather than authentic or classy Italian. Fantastic! Ordering carry out was super easy and they do an amazing job of packaging to-go orders. The fettuccine carbonara fat baby was separated into multiple containers of bread, pasta (with sauce on it to keep it from being dry), and extra sauce with cheese to pour over and recreate the full experience. It was so good with just the right amount of seasoning and garlic. The pizza was great and "foldable" so it reminded me of pizza in New York. The garlic bread was also tasty. The food was delicious! The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. This place is pretty small so a reservation is recommended especially for a weekend. I went with a party of 7 and we were luckily there was enough tables to accommodate that size available. My kids loves the colored pencils and blank paper all the tables had on the tables for just casual drawings, it's looks like if you draw something super cool they might even put it on their wall. I'm recommending only because the food was not bad. For a local Italian place it was ok. They could expand on the seafood on the menu as they only have Clams and shrimp. Shrimp is farm raised so I didn't eat but my dude did. I guess folks really like those cone pasta dishes which seemed to be popular. I had the baked ziti it was ok, I've had better. Thank goodness i asked for meat sauce and sausage which was late getting out to me. Place is intimate in a strip mall wasn't a problem. It seemed as though it was partial Italian and partial bakery with the way it was sectioned off. As for the food we got fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and carbonara fat babies. The bread was amazing. To me it tasted like sourdough. The pasta and sauce was really good just needed the slightest bit of pepper but I was not a huge fan of the chicken that was $10 more. Came on a Tuesday night, the place was packed. While we waited we looked over the menu, so that once we got seated we can order right away. Let me tell you something, we left not bloated at all and not gorged. You can tell that they made their food fresh. The fat baby was their high highest recommendation from word-of-mouth and as well through Yelp. I highly recommend getting it for the whole table as it was plenty for the three of us to share. Their pizza dough is it speechless. It's light, airy, and I found myself dipping the pizza crust into the fettuccine Alfredo sauce. Lastly, we ordered dessert, I have never in my entire life and enjoyed a dessert than I did at this place. Ordered zeppole were nicely, warmed coated with perfect powdered sugar, and the chocolate sauce certainly made its debut. This is a dessert you cannot miss!! granted this place is almost an hour out of where I live, (Henderson) but I will make the drive to come back to eat their fabulous food. I got a pizza fat baby which is a $12 addition but I really wanted the marinara sauce to pare with the fettuccine sauce that you get from the other pastas. Again, it actually turned out pretty good but for one dish of carbs I dunno if it should end up being over $40 without "premium" or expensive ingredients which it really wasn't. Beyond that I did enjoy my fat baby and I do recommend coming out to give this spot a chance. You woke think carb on carbs would've really work but it was quite tasty. Ordering was easy and the guy who helped carry out the food did a double check to make sure everything was in our order to avoid any frustration of missing items. We had 6 entrees Spaghetti and meatballs Lasagna Chicken parm Chicken piccata Chicken saltimboca Fettuccine Alfredo Fat Baby We also ordered an antipasto to share. The antipasto was amazing! Looked beautiful and tasted great! The portions for the entrees were huge! Sauces were tasty. I've never had saltimboca with a red sauce and if I were to order it again I'd probably ask for a different sauce. The red sauce was too strong flavor for that chicken, in my opinion. Although the sauce was very good! The pasta with the chicken dishes was a bit overcooked making the noodles almost mushy but still edible. The piccata was also very tasty.
