Amano Cafe was one of many cafes that I stopped by on my cafe hopping tour of NYC during my trip last month. Walking in, I was delighted by the aesthetics of the interior. I loved the minimalist, rustic black and white feel complemented by the blue and brown touches. Even more, I was happier to see that they offered a toasted coconut latte. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon when most tables were filled with people working or chatting. Service was friendly and prompt and so I left with my latte shortly after ordering. I quickly finished my coconut latte while walking to the subway. The balance of flavors was immaculate as the espresso, coconut, and milk made for a great afternoon drink. read more

Cafe in West Village! I like the aesthetic here -- plants, wood, stone, blue accents. Laptop friendly w/ wifi and seats with outlets, but they do have signs asking for a 2 hour limit per customer unless you buy another item. Nice place to start my day, could also see it as a morning hangout spot with a friend -- feels third spacey and in a nice location in the West Village. Was intrigued by the rocket fuel drink -- a little heavy on the dairy, but definitely got me wired. read more

Got the rocket fuel and the toasted coconut latte -- both were so good!! Rocket fuel tasted a bit like the black and tan from la colombe x a less sweet version of nola at blue bottle. Toasted coconut latte had a subtle coconut flavor without being very sweet at all. Indoor seating is great to catch up with friends but no bathroom which is not great. read more

Regular tea is $6!! You would never suspect because prices are not posted on the wall menu. The honey is really honey syrup - mostly high fuctose corn syrup. No air conditioning only a small fan that does not oscillate. It can cool only the one person seated a that particular table. The place is expensive and gives you next to nothing. Stumbled upon this cute cafe that sits right up my alley. The interior is sleek, clean, with spacious tables (+outlets!) perfect for working from home, study sessions, or people watching. Lady who was there alone in the early morning was very friendly and did a great job pumping out drinks. Cortado 7/10 the coffee wasnt the best for me as it was kinda sour tasting but points for good temp and very cute latte art! The pecan tart at Amano Café deserves 5 stars on its own. It's soft, perfectly chewy, a tad sticky (in a good way, trust me), and the pecans are caramelized. I'm not one for sweets but this tart was exquisite. Pair it with a cup of hot coffee and you have the perfect afternoon snack. Wish I took a photo of it but after one bite I was hooked. read more

Lol started off our visit by cutting my finger on the little metal "Pull" sign on the interior of the door! Noticed that it was damaged and let the barista know, and told him it would be best if I just tore it off at this point so no one else could hurt themselves. He was fine with it. We ordered our coffees and, as one might expect in a situation like this (but still be grateful for), he comped our drinks. Well, that's where this review really begins, because those drinks were *fabulous* - absolutely outstanding coffee. Perfectly balanced, deep, no need for any kind of sweetener at all. I found this place on Too Good to Go (the app that promotes last-minute food to reduce food waste) and I bought a $4 mystery box of pastries. The guy working was super generous and gave me a couple scones, a couple cookie-type things, and a couple muffins. It was a mix of sweet and savory pastries and undeniably a great value for what I paid. He was also super nice and kind - it was a pleasant experience overall. Pastries were, to be honest, just okay. Again, for the price I paid it was an unbelievable deal, I just don't know if they were good enough where I'd be inclined to run back and buy them at full cost. I actually really liked the cookie things, which were dense and moist and full of seeds, chocolate, fruit, etc. They almost had a sort of protein bar type texture so I could lie to myself and pretend they were healthy (an added bonus!). Not sure how much of the issue was the pastries being old/leftover so I def give them a pass, but overall there are definitely better spots to get a sweet treat in the area. PROS: Outlets, wifi, abundant seating (6 tables + couch + outdoor tables). CONS: when I went the AC was either broken or just working poorly. It was 95 outside and inside felt pretty warm as well- maybe 80s. Also the prices are a little high, an iced hibiscus 16oz tea was $6. Pretty steep for tea. There is also a time limit. 2 hours for those working inside and 1 hour on the weekends. read more

Very cute and modern atmosphere! Amano cafe has been on my list of coffee shops to try. I went with their French vanilla latte. It was amazing! On the sweeter side but I always prefer sweeter drinks. You can tell the employees take their time making the drinks and don't rush the process. There's some seating inside and outside, but it is small so there may be a chance all tables are taken. Good coffee, great pastries, confused service! Got a simple black coffee with almond milk, and it was not bitter or "thin," as I like to say. It wasn't the best coffee I've ever had, but it was certainly better than the typical you would find. Shared the banana bread and lemon olive oil cakes and they were fantastic. Highly recommend either one! So light and fresh! Guys running the place are very friendly and I wish them success on their new place, but they need to be a bit more attentive. They gave my friend a hot drink when she asked for iced, they forgot to give straws and utensils, and they are quite slow. However, it's a new cafe and they're still getting the hang of things, so they can improve! Overall, cute neighborhood spot, good coffee, few tables outside, and wonderful pastries. read more

My favorite thing to do is find new coffee shops in nyc that has a nice atmosphere and spacious enough to bring my laptop to get work done. Amano is a cute little cafe on the corner that provides indoor and outdoor seating and okay wifi. The coffee is okay but the real star of the cafe is the açaí bowls. I love a good açaí bowl and most bowls taste pretty similar wherever you go. Not at Amano cafe though. There's something so delicious about the açaí bowl here that keeps me coming back. It's just enough sweetness and packed with a good amount of fresh fruit. Def recommend read more

Cute little cafe spot in WV. Cortado was great! I'm not a fan of cortados that use light or light/medium roasts, but this one was a really good balance of the acidity and flavor that comes with lighter roasts and the nuttiness i love in darker roasts! Latte art was an extra plus, weighted cups and all. Its got wifi and a quiet space which makes it good for working, but no bathroom. Chipotle down the street or Washington square park is your best bet. read more

I am all for supporting local coffee shops over the Starbucks around the corner, but this place is so slow no matter how many people are in there and my large (16 oz) iced coffee with a splash of oat milk was $7.35!!!! This cafe is super cute and cozy! It has a relaxing, modern atmosphere with multiple tables to get some work done. I ordered the special which was a vanilla ginger latte. The drink was the perfect temperature for sipping and had a light ginger taste. I enjoyed my time here. The only drawback was the space gets pretty crowded with a full shop. This new corner coffee spot is somewhat unassuming at first glance, but prepare to be totally WOWED. It's a great, artfully decorated little space with friendly staff... which would be enough justification for me to like it even if the coffee and food were just average. But the coffee and food are incredible! When I first ordered a croissant sandwich I think I was anticipating some kind of grab-and-go convenience food, and so I was totally bowled over by the freshly handmade, beautifully plated creation that was later brought out. I had the Nutella croissant that day but have plans to try the rest. Also delicious are the gigantic brick-like granola bars and the chai latte. (The chai concentrate is house-made.) And I look forward to the return of indoor dining so I can once again appreciate the place settings and glassware, which are all so pretty. read more

Had a great time visiting amano cafe today!! Drinks: delicious!!! I had an iced chai and my boyfriend had an iced coffee. The iced chai is spiced really well with deep cinnamon flavors and nutmeg. Not your average chai! The iced coffee was made by serious coffee makers! They also have great togo cups for iced drinks that are strawless. Service: 10/10 super attentive and fast service! Really nice people work there and really care about their coffee. Ambiance: really modern setting on a busy street with great vibes. Lots of seating available outside. read more

I have tested all the cappuccinos in the neighborhood -- the one from Amano is clearly the best. A cappuccino is tricky because there is coffee and milk, and both have to perfect and interact just so. For the coffee, the quality is determined by the quality of the coffee itself, of the machine that makes the espresso, and the skill of the barista. The importance of the barista is obvious at Amano when there is a short-term replacement and the quality dips, but the regular baristas are wizards. And crucially, this is one of the few places that serves in a real cup when you stay -- I hate the feel of paper against my lips, having a cappuccino involves all senses. Décor is nice, I hope the outdoor seating comes back despite the new rules. My one complaint is that the wifi is not great outdoors (have to find something to complain about otherwise people think this is a fake review). read more

Came here on a weekday to grab a drink and grind out some work. I got an iced matcha latte which was a bit pricy but pretty decent given that it was a coffee shop. I arrived early in the morning expecting seats to be available, but it was filled to my surprise. The Wi-Fi also stopped working half way through my work, so I wouldn't come back here to do work. Amano use to be my favorite and most frequented cafe for years. I have been out of the city for a year and decided to go back when I returned. The vibes were the same, good coffee and a great place to wfh. I give them a low rating sadly because their female employee working 2/18 with the attitude. She was a dark haired women with a raging attitude to the customers for no reason. The cafe was full of people around 5:55pm and she made an announcement they were closing. That is completely fine and often occurs at coffee shops but it was the way she delivered it with eye rolls and a tone like we were idiots and to get the f*ck out. Everyone began to gather their belongings no questions asked and she still began to make odd remarks like "yeah, i've also had a long day and want to go home..." as she scolded us and watched us like a hawk as we gathered our belongings. Felt like we were in trouble. And for what? Not knowing the exact time the cafe closed? The cafe was still completely full so she acted this way in front of about 15-20 customers...which I find embarrassing for the cafe. On the way out customers were being very polite saying thanks and goodbye to her. Even while customers were being polite she muttered something (i'm sure once again rude and uncalled for but couldn't make it out) under her breath. Her attitude was completely uncalled for given how polite everyone was being once they found out they were closing. It's New York places all close at different hours and your customers won't know each time. A simple "hey everyone were closing in 5" without an aggressive tone would have done the trick. Instead she took her pent up anger out on the customers who pay almost $10 a latte just to be there. I have never ran into problems with their staff before and they have always been pretty friendly. I hate giving them a low rating but am doing so in hopes the owner will see the type of staff working for him. As for the girl do better. Do better in life in general. You never know what others are going through and there is no reason to be that rude. Go to anger management if doing simple tasks required for your job sets you off that much. read more

I find this cafe to be very "cliquey" hipster vibe, very over priced, very cookie-cutter type of place. Not friendly baristas. Not impressive. Considering I pass this place every morning, it's sad to say I do not like it, did not have a positive experience and never returned.
