The best! There was a pellet stove from Amanda's in my house when I bought it, and they were incredibly helpful getting me started with it. I'd never used a wood stove before, and was completely bewildered by the rather arbitrary rules of my quite fancy stove. The service guy who came to clean it explained everything to me patiently and in detail, and the stove has worked perfectly for four years. This weekend it was running at very low temp (not good, since my heating system isn't adequate for really cold weather). I called Amanda's this morning, and Cliff walked me through the settings, waiting on the phone while I fumbled around in the basement to plug and unplug it, and til it took off properly. He could have easily told me I needed a service call, but he knew what the likely problem was, and helped me solve it. Knowledgeable and kind; what a great combination! Thanks, Cliff! read more

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! We needed our propane fireplace serviced and the pilot repaired. The appointment took over a month to get. When the service man arrived (on a very cold day) he scolded me for not having the unit off, He said it was too hot for him to work on. Nobody told us to have it off. I explained this to him and also that it heats our house. He told me to use an electric heater and he would try to come back by the end of the day and that the office would call to let me know when he would return. A week later no one has called or returned. I called the office today and was greeted by a VERY rude woman. The next available date for service now is more than another month away. I told her that she should have told us to have the unit turned off before he arrived. I also told her that he said he would try to return and also that no one ever called us back. Apparently, that's not her problem. We were already in the process of being serviced. We should not have to wait another month for the process to be completed. I hope the owners of this business know how rude their employees are. read more

Before shopping here, you should seriously consider local competitors. If it were only the case that the $4k+ gas stove I purchased from Amanda's last year wouldn't turn on throughout last winter, I wouldn't be writing. Not sure I'd bother if it was just the service was inept. But the worst of it is that everyone from the technician to owner made me feel it was somehow my fault that the new stove wouldn't work. Unspeakable, hostile customer service. Zero concern. Three nasty trips to my house, and no fix. I finally contacted a competitor, their technician replaced the deficient pilot, and now I have a functioning stove. You know what Amanda's brilliant diagnosis was? Wind down my wind-capped chimney made it impossible for the stove to work. Yikes. Steer clear, there are better options. read more

We have two propane heating stoves from Amanda's. We were treated well when buying the stoves, but service is not good. Given that this is a busy time (November) I can understand a busy service schedule but their very long wait time seems to indicate that they need more technicians. Also I was treated in an aggressively rude, condescending manner by one of the staff. He told me that I was calling too often (even though I had been told by another staff member to call and check on progress) and his angry interruptions prevented me from asking questions. Amanda's is great! In 2015 they fixed all the problems with our newly purchased Vermont Castings Stove. The store in MA that sold it and installed it was useless. (They are out of business) Our gas provider tried and failed to fix the stove. Amanda's took care of it promptly. Just last weekend we had a problem with a battery exploding in the remote control. The acid destroyed the battery contacts. Went to Amanda's and Cliff took the remote, looked though our paperwork. He managed to fix the remote and we are now warm and comfortable. I purchased a wood stove from Amanda's about a year ago. I agreed on the cost and paid in full and also separately paid for the installation which was completed. I was told that they were able to use some of the existing stovepipe and I would get a refund for those pieces which were not used. Three months later, I get a bill for an additional $600 without any explanation. After months, I spoke to the accounting department who told me that they hadn't charged me for all the stove pipe elements and this amount was due. No one apologized for their error or called to explain they miscalculated the pipe amount or why I should pay for this after the fact. As an owner of a firm myself, this conduct is unprofessional and I would not recommend them. read more

This place is without a doubt, a complete scam. They spend all the time in the world with, to sell you. Every question, every answer. The minute you sign the dotted line, they tell you they outsource installation. It's a separate company. SCAM! This means they put the blame on another company so they can't be held liable. I spent over 3500K. In less than 12 months, I've complained at least 10-12 about leaks. They send the same guy who installed it. This place is the worst, and I'm taking them to small claims court. They've postponed installation 3 times , once because they brought the wrong pipe and twice because they overbooked and cancelled at the last minute . Avoid this place like the plague! I deeply regret having purchased my fireplace insert at this disreputable firm. I have had nothing but trouble with them. First, they are not certified to work with gas--despite selling gas logs, stoves, and fireplaces. When the installer came 2 years ago he almost refused to install it, despite the fact the gas line was already in place. When I told him that he could then take the product back and give me a refund, he relented and installed it. It worked for about 3 months but then the thermostat and remote stopped working. It took two weeks to get service. When the guy showed up he did not have the right parts with him despite my telling the appointment scheduler what the problem was. As a result, the technician just put a rubber band around the battery pack and left. When I called Amanda's and spoke to the owner, he told me they would make it right. I never heard from them again. So I lived with the rubber band fix for a year. Well, it is broken again. So I called and scheduled an appointment--it was for a week away. But then that was cancelled due to a snow storm. So I rescheduled. More snow. Another cancellation. So I scheduled yet another appointment, again for a week later. I asked what time of day the technician would arrive--since I have a job and needed to schedule around the appointment. I was told I would be the first person on the schedule--the technician would be here around 8:30 in the morning. So I rearranged my meetings so I could be home during the morning to get the repair done, at long last. Today is the day the technician was supposed to arrive. It is now 11 am--no technician. I called Amanda's 45 minutes ago--they rescheduled me for the afternoon because one of their technicians called in sick--but they never called to tell me that. I am furious. I spoke to the owner, and while he claimed to be apologetic, he told me it was all beyond his control. He also did not really seem to care or appreciate the fact that they have inconvenienced me massively. It appears the folks at Amanda's believe their customers sit home all day, with nothing to do but wait for technicians. Bottom line--bad products and even worse service with no appreciation for their customers whatsoever. Next stop for this review? Angie's List and any other venue I can find. read more

Should have read these reviews before going here to purchase our woodstove!! The owner is very nice and knowledgeable. However, the salesman that we were working with was absolutely horrible. It took him 20 minutes to write an invoice and when he messed that one up, it took him another 20 minutes to write the other invoice. We went in knowing exactly what we wanted and a simple exchange that should have taken 45 minutes tops took about 2 1/2 hours. Not only that, we had to go back to this store later in the day because they made us purchase way more pipe than we needed and ended up over-charging us by $800 but then refused to give us our money back. We had to become embarrassingly irate in their store in front of other customers. Needed to get a new barbecue grill and researched Napoleon. I live in Cooperstown New York but the closest dealer that had some inventory to look at was Amanda's fireplace in Hudson New York. I took the drive to Hudson and found a great facility and many grills on display. They were knowledgeable and informative. I asked for pricing and brochures on the models I was most interested in. I left without purchasing so I could go home and do some research and see how the pricing looked. In the end the pricing was very competitive I placed an order and had my new grill shipped to me within a week. We were more than pleased the way our transaction went. read more

Our one phone call was returned in a timely manner and our other 2 calls were answered promptly and courteously. Both times that we visited the store, they had our OEM part in stock and at prices that equaled (or was less than) what we would've paid for an online order. if I could give a minus, I would give this store a minus 5 stars. This company gives the impression that they are all about service. However, when you buy a stove from them it is a completely different story. We bought two pellet stoves from them. They did many mistakes in installing the stoves which caused the stoves to vent soot into the house. They refused responsibility to pay for anything. We had to send a claim through our home insurance and pay a deductible. Later, the insurance company decided to sue them and the decided to stove servicing the stoves we just purchased from them. The stopped responding to our calls, e-malls, and requests to meet. We never encountered such horrible service. Now we are stuck with two pellet stoves that cannot be serviced since the owners of this company are also the dealers for New England. read more

Tried to buy a gas insert from Amanda's 3 times. First insert they sold to someone else even with a cash deposit holding the stove. Second stove did not work, third stove they brought a propane insert instead of gas. Now trying to get back our deposit and credit to our credit card. Have not had success with this also. Bad advice installing wood stove, inadequate information leading to fire and health hazard, interested in selling product fast, hasty checkout without asking customer if they know what they are doing and have the right accessories and installation cements, etc. We purchased a woodburning stove from Amanda's Fireplace several years ago. They helped us install it and were friendly but did not suggest we purchase and install a damper for the flue. If we had no prior experience with wood stoves, without a damper, we would have set our house on fire in a matter of days. A damper is absolutely necessary on a flue to control the draft. Too strong a pull on the air in the stove and the wood burns too hot for the recommendations the stove and flue can handle, thus causing the surrounding walls and roof to burn. A few years later, at the time of this writing, we purchased a new top for our old stove. We got good advice and installation instructions from the maker of the stove, Vermont Castings, on how to remove and install the top. Vermont Castings only sells parts through dealers, so we picked up our top at Amanda's Fireplace. On pickup, the box had no packing slip or markings, therefore we had to ask them to open it to make sure it was the right part for our stove. It was correct. NO other information was offered. We had to ask for everything. 2 workers at the store gave us different information on how to attach the top to the stove. We had to ask for the adhesive cement, they did not offer it, even though it is an essential part of the installation, without which we would be exposed to carbon monoxide. When we got home we needed more cement and went to the hardware store where they told us we were given the wrong cement. The cement we were given was only for attaching insulating rope. The cement we needed was that which is made to attach metal to metal. Amanda's Fireplace is a dangerous place to purchase anything unless the buyer is very experienced already. My boyfriend and I recently purchased our first home. We visited Amanda's Fireplaces to purchase a stove to install in our house. Cliff (the salesperson we worked with) spent a really long time explaining the different types of stoves to us (wood v. pellet, cast iron v. steel, etc.). He was very helpful and patient--we were there for over an hour. He answered all of our questions and helped us find a stove that was right for our needs. We had the stove delivered. Unfortunately, a week after the product was delivered, we discovered that a fireplace insert had actually been delivered (not a free standing wood stove). I spoke with Cliff this morning about the issue and it appears the wrong product had been typed in to the system during our order process. However, it's noon of the same day and the insert has already been picked up and the proper stove has been delivered! The delivery person (I think his name is Jimmy) was great as well. Very good overall experience. Excellent customer service, great knowledge about stoves, and wide selection to choose from. Even though we got the wrong product delivered, I would still give them five stars for quickly resolving the issue, taking ownership of the mistake, and making the customer happy.
