I've eaten here a few times. So far, I've had the goulash, potato pancakes, borsht and dill pickle soup. I enjoyed them all. I'm not putting this place on my regular stop list, but I would definitely go back again. read more

Cute and cozy restaurant, good place for a lunch or dinner date. The Hungarian pancakes were tasty but so salty that I would never consider ordering them again; the pierogis are good, but stick with the mushroom. If you use their bathroom, be prepared for a little surprise. read more

This is a very dirty restaurant - they came in #2 for dirty by the county food inspectors - very bad news

This cafe has an authentic European atmosphere and wonderful decor. From start to finish I was impressed. We started with their pickle soup (Ogorkowa zupa) and it is now my favorite soup! I got a sample platter including chicken paprikash, kielbasa, gołombki, and pierogi. Hands down the best pierogi I've ever had in my life and my girlfriend is Polish (Sorry babe). Every aspect of the experience was top notch and the service impeccable. There was a musician finger picking classical music on his guitar through out our dinner service. Honestly, I wouldn't change anything about this place & I hope we can make a trip back next time we are in Ann Arbor. read more

A group of friends along with myself decided to make a reservation over a month ago to attend the Polish Film Festival and eat dinner at Amadeus. We have always had a positive experience there, but tonight was one of the worst experiences I have had in a long time. We arrived for our reservation less than 5 minutes late (after calling to say we would be 5 minutes late) since the film didn't start on time. We were promptly sat but that was the only thing that was prompt. We waited about 5 minutes for menus, and an additional 10 minutes for water. The water was well iced, this was probably the best part of the experience. We were informed that our server would be with us shortly. After 30 minutes of servers standing around at the service station I was elected to ask if our order would be taken. I said "we are ready for our order to be taken, we've been ready for 30 minutes already". The server took some plates to another table and while passing our table she said "I'll be with you in another 20 minutes". Offended and disappointed is an understatement and as a small business there is never an excuse. With so many choices in the Ann Arbor area small businesses, no matter how long they have been around, will not succeed. Eight members of Metro Detroit Polonia will no longer be wasting our time or money at Amadeus, and that pales in comparison to the friends and Family who will hear about this experience. We will keep your Restraunt In our prayers and mourn the death of Wolfgang Amadeus. read more

Horrible experience... I went there a friend. We saw a hair in the appetizer (the Polish dumplings). Then for entree the waitress served both of us wrong food and when we pointed out it was not the beef we ordered it took them more than 10 min to check and then they gave us pork! Also, I agree with some reviews that this place is a bit racist and only welcome European people. They seemed to try to avoid our table and we could not even get their attention when we wanted our check --- waited for more than 20 min! read more

My husband and I came here on a Friday night for dinner a couple of weeks ago. On a Friday night at 7pm I expected them to be pretty busy, but there were only two other tables with guests and the rest were empty. When we entered, we were greeted by the faint whiff of what smelled like sewer water. Long story short, the food was mostly okay but expensive for the portion sizes and ingredients used. $19 for a modest serving of chicken over noodles? And $9 for a single, oily potato pancake with a small piece of smoked salmon on top. Service was slow, but I had read that was the case in other reviews so I knew to expect that. During our meal I saw a man who I assume is the owner come in the front door wearing short shorts and carrying a large box of GFS sour cream and a gym bag and then fiddle with the thermostat. Something about that didn't sit right with me. Maybe you could bring ingredients in through the back door? While wearing pants? We were not very impressed with dessert either. My husband said his cake tasted like ash and not much else. He was actually so disappointed by dessert that we stopped at Iorio's Gelateria afterward. We will not be back to Amadeus anytime soon. read more

The place is uber authentic. I feel like I've entered a cafe on the walkplatz . The food, as always, is excellent. Make sure you save room for desert. I have gone there over the past 15+ years, and the standards remain consistently high. Although I no longer live in the area, this place is a must whenever I go home. read more

Great lunch at a great price. Had the 2 potato pancakes with 2 small salad and a cup of the beet soup (10.54). Great rolls and service with our book club of 8. Had the best time there yet! read more

I have not been here in quite awhile and now i regret that. A friend and I wanted to try somewhere with good soup (cold weather). Had wonderful dill pickle soup and potato pancakes. Both were excellent and well presented. The waitress was great and the entire experience a joy. I already started to make plans to go back. I don't know about the brunch but i can highly recommend for dinner. Ann Arbor has lots of restaurants that are large and pretty impersonal, so this is a welcome difference with very good food. read more

My wife and I enjoyed the restaurant very much. The menu selections made it difficult to choose. The Amadeus coffee was great,

My wife and I were walking down Washington Ave and came upon a European looking bistro. Checked out the menu and decided to go in. I opened the door and walked back into time to a turn of the century Viennese restaurant. The ambience and Mozartian music set the tone. When is the last time you were able to have a meal hearing a nice arrangement of symphony music. And was I in for surprise - my first true gourmet Eastern European meal. The beet soup (borcz) was different and excellent - rich and yet light. The presentation of the meal was superb. Homemade sauerkraut was unique and superb. The best pierogis I have ever had - soft, tender, and excellent mushrooms. The kielbasa was excellently prepared. I had a reasonable and very good glass of Bordeaux wine that was recommended along with an Italian cheesecake the like I have never had. I will be back and this is a 65 mile trip one way from my house. PS. I would suggest that when you go to the Amadeus that you use your imagination. Let the experience come to you and its own pace. Bring conversation, have a bootle of wine and let the meal unfold. You will not get American portion of food. It will be quality and not quantity. This will ensure you have room for one of their excellent deserts (and I am not normally a desert person). read more

This is an excellent Polish Restaurant. It is authentic and very carefully made. Polish food can be very basic and simple. But. Pawel adds a sophisticated touch to ordinary Polish food items. I have to admit, however , this food is pricey in terms of Polish cuisine. The added sophistication to the dishes do es make up for it , if you have the money to spend. read more

My dad, boyfriend, and I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. I read reviews on Yelp ahead of time and was nervous about my choice. But having experienced this place first hand, I am not disappointed with the decision and I hope to be going back very soon! Being a Tuesday evening, I didn't bother to make reservations. There were a few small parties when we arrived, but we were able to snag a table in the window right away. Many of the reviews on Yelp mentioned the slow service. I will say that service was slower than most restaurants; it seemed there was only one waitress working the entire front by herself (taking orders, refilling drinks, delivering entrees, etc.). But we didn't mind the speed of service since we were celebrating - I thought it was great to enjoy my wine, look over the menu, ask questions, and talk. I ordered the Hungarian pancakes, and I sampled some of my boyfriend's kielbasa, pierogis, and stuffed cabbage. Everything was so so good! My family is Hungarian, so I grew up with homemade Hungarian food. My standards were pretty high, but Amadeus surely impressed me. Even though we were celebrating my birthday a few days late, the waitress let me have a dessert on the house. I chose the lemon torte and she served it with a candle and everything! The cake was amazing. Such a great experience. I can't wait to go back! read more

What a charming little place. We wandered in off the street, cold and wet, to the strains of lively and live classical music...a perfect introduction to a place named after the great Beethoven. The prices were more than reasonable and the food was delicious. If you're in a hurry, this place is not for you but if you're in the mood for a leisurely meal of authentic Central European food, this is the place for you. Our server Michael was attentive and very nice. read more

Friendly people, nice live music, and authentic Eastern European cuisine make up for the sometimes-overcrowded conditions. This place would be perfect if they had more space, and a little better control of the temperature, which can be deadly hot in the summer, and Finnish cold in the winter. read more

Romantic, intimate and quiet atmosphere - a perfect first-date restaurant. If you are lucky, your meal will be accompanied by live music (I love the guitarist). I've dined here four times or so, and the service was seamless, the food consistently good. Make sure you leave room for desserts. My favorite is Napoleon - French puff pastry dusted with powder sugar. read more

My wife and I go to Amadeus on a regular basis because we love the relaxed atmosphere, decor and wait staff, unlike almost all downtown restaurants that are noisy, pseudo-chic and it seems like someone is always waiting for your table. Agnes has been our server many times and she is a excellent always interacting delightfully with us. The salad is the best in Ann Arbor. We've had the polish plate, paprykash, goulash, and bitki - all flavorful. There have been a few other dishes that were not the best but all restaurants have some of these. All in all, the value is very high for us: a relaxing meal at our pace with good comfort food. read more

Check this place out for Sunday brunch with a couple buds. You won't be disappointed.

Very cool. Kinda pricey, super small portions so order a lot. Great drinks.

First time trying this place. I thought the staffs were rude. They also didn't let us serve our birthday cake since we came here for my best friends birthday celebration. They said they were allowed to which was odd. The food was decently flavored but I definitely feel like it's overpriced, might as well go to Pacific rim. read more

This is a good restaurant. I'm always pleased with the Polish items on the menu and the atmosphere is delightful too! My favorites are the paprikash and the kielbalsa. I love the guitar player's music and he performs every Friday. You can never go wrong with the soups and the cold, cream based vegetable soups that are served during the summer are fantastic. If you're in a hurry to get a meal this is not the place for you. However, for a relaxing evening with friends Amadeus is a good choice. read more

A fine and tasty dinner as usual, and our server Agnes was very knowledgeable and personable. I've come to have high expectations from Amadeus, and they never disappoint. read more

The food is fine, though not sophisticated. Don't go there if you like vegetables. Waitresses act like they have not been trained and should not be in this business. Chairs very uncomfortable--if you want to lean on the back seat, you are miles away from your partner. That and the piano doesn't make civilized conversation easy. read more

Liked the food! Hungarian golash on a cold winter's night. Can't think of anything better. The flavors were so full that it simply wrapped it's arms around me. I'll be back. read more

We went there in a group of 5. The decoration and food were both OK, but the service was so disappointing. While we were still looking at the menu, the waitress came three times to see whether we were ready. There was no one else in the restaurant and I do not understand why she was like in a hurry. When serving the food, she just passed the plates one by one to me, as if I knew what the food was and who ordered that. The worst happened when someone else was done with the food: my plate was still half full, but 30 seconds later it was GONE! Yes I was probably talking and was not paying full attention to my food, but she did not even ask if I was done! Again, the food was fine and the place was cozy, but I will never visit it again. read more

I absolutely love Polish food! That being said, I decided to try Amadeus as it was the closest restaurant that offered it. The good: I was able to get what I was craving. Everything was delicious. The bad: The wait. It took a long tine to get service. With one hostess and one server, this needs to be addressed. The portion sizes. If you're going to charge 12 bucks for four potato pancakes, you might want to follow the styles of other restaurants that choose to so by increasing the size of the pancakes. Just saying. read more
