Ask the Community - Amada Senior Care

How dependable is this agency? Any problems with caregivers showing up late or not at all?

Nope, used them for the past two years without a hiccup. Sometimes a caregiver might take ill or have a family emergency but they always notified us at least a day before to offer a substitute if that's what I wanted. Very client oriented.

All of the reviews are spot on. My Mom lived there from Nov 20 to Dec 20, 2024, and it was such a horrific, stressful, expensive experience, that I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. If you want to hear lame excuses, and/or zero response to your issues, take your loved one to this place. The management lacks enough experience to do the right thing, only caring about us paying our bill. It's a shame because the facility is beautiful, the dining times are great, and the activities are plentiful with a very outgoing, enthusiastic activity director. However, the assisted living part was poor at best. My Mom went 3 weeks without a shower, physical therapy (which was very important to us during the sales process), and ate very few meals, and did very few activities. She was stressed because the care she received was so inconsistent and different every day. She could never get a routine going. Her family, myself and my Dad were there often to try to get her adjusted, and yet nobody alerted us of these issues. We had to set up a meeting with the Executive Director, who was also unaware of these issues, and at the end of the day, offered very little assistance or care about our issues. He couldn't work with us, considering my Mom was only physically there 1 month. We ended up paying a total of $15K for one month of care, because of the community fee, and 30 day notice that we had to give. We escalated to Regional Mgmt, who also didn't care enough to call us back after coming to Austin to investigate. Don't send your loved one here for assisted living. Independent living, maybe, but the assisted living is too unorganized and chaotic. There is only 1 person giving out meds and providing the caregiving. During the sales process, they referred to them by different names, so we thought they were separate positions. It's the same person providing all of the care, and it's too much for them, often complaining to my Mom. Also, they rotate this 1 person on a monthly basis, so just when you get adjusted to the new person, it's time to switch. This is very different from all of the other AL places we toured in the area. Lastly, all 3 invoices we received were grossly incorrect - Nov, Dec, Jan, yet the only phone call we ever received was to remind us to pay on time. Our last invoice, included billing us for care and med management, even though she and her medication were already moved out of the building.

For example the vehicle used to take residents on outings and to doctors was not working and it took about 4 months! to get it working. Staff turnover has been staggering and the reason seems to be twofold: In some cases the pay is too low, but even more important staff we have been friendly with have told us that they are prevented from doing their jobs well and they don't feel good about the service they are delivering. The end result is you are always dealing with new employees who are trying to learn their job and becoming increasingly dismayed by the situation they find themselves working in. For example there have been extended periods when there was no cook working in the kitchen, and overwhelmed servers are trying to figure out how to stand in the gap. Their hearts are admirable, but the results are not good. But the situation becomes extremely dangerous when it comes to medical issues. Because of memory problems we need and pay $300/mo for daily administration of medicine. Over and over we find untaken medications beside my mother in law's chair, despite months of repeated instruction that they MUST watch her take the medicine, not just deliver it. Unless we come in every single day and check on her there is no way to know if she is getting her medicines. Similarly there is supposed to be an on staff doctor. We assigned this doctor to be her primary with Medicare so we depend on this doctor to direct her care. Since mobility is a problem this seemed great. But when she has urgent medical needs there is no access. The doctor only comes to the facility once per week - down from 2x per week when we started. It is possible to schedule an eventual appointment far in the future for very low priority problems anything more serious and she has no medical options except an ambulance ride for $thousands to the ER. Even when she is in extreme pain with obvious medical symptoms the nursing staff seems to have no idea what to do and is bound by the limitations of their training to do nothing. Bottom line, the situation here is dire and dangerous. Don't put anyone you love here.

There are several good caregivers here; however, I am unable to recommend this community because of the following issues: 1. Lack of communication: Although we were assured when she moved in that we would be updated on her care and condition on a monthly basis, we were seldom updated on her condition unless there was some kind of emergency. We received no regular status updates of how she was doing. 2. Lots of turnover: I understand the senior living industry experiences high turnover in general; however, this place is a revolving door except for a few good caregivers. Depending on who the administrator and memory care director was at the time, it varied on if we were able to communicate with the memory care director. Note: the administrator who was there at the time we moved her was very responsive and nice (Shelly Vercell) 3. Lack of activities: Lots of TV time, few activities. 4. Cost increases: Within six months they issued two large increases, justifying one by saying our mother needed additional care, and justifying the next increase so that they could pay their staff more. The place was quickly becoming a cash drain despite the problems. 5. Reimbursement of funds due to us: We had to give a 30 day notice which is understandable, and pay the month in advance. It took numerous calls and emails over two months to get the funds due back to us that we had prepaid. We were told numerous times "it's being mailed" and it was not until I called the corporate office that we received payment. No apologies from corporate, either.

I can't even begin to tell you how many activity directors left, with only a couple that were dedicated to providing residents with mental stimulation. They mostly watched t.v. or napped which is what you would expect in a nursing home and not memory care.I felt that the caregivers were dedicated and did the best that they could considering the huge turn over of staff. Communication was nonexistent and the main phone number was rarely answered. After 3 years we decided to transfer my 93 year old Mom to a different facility. She went from being kept in a wheelchair for 3 years even though she can walk without assistance to never using one at all. She has scheduled activities from morning until bedtime and never takes a nap. The facility has courtyards that the residents are encouraged to enjoy and they are taken on frequent bus trips. My Mom never left the building previously unless I took her. The last straw was taking months of calling management for the refund that we were owed after the move.We finally called the owner and never got a response but finally received the check today.

That's when I discovered Tran's Senior Oasis--and everything changed. From the moment we arrived, I knew TSO was different. Dr. Tran and her staff aren't just caregivers; they are family. They treat every resident with love, respect, and dignity. Many of the staff have been with TSO for over 10 years, which says everything about the culture of consistency and compassion. Dr. Tran is a very involved owner--she doesn't just manage from a distance, she knows every resident, every family, and is always attentive to their needs. That level of dedication gave me something priceless: peace of mind. As my mother's journey came to its final stages, the partnership with Altus Hospice made all the difference. Dr. Tran and the hospice team worked seamlessly together, surrounding my mother--and our entire family--with kindness, compassion, and comfort. They supported us through each step, ensuring my mother's last days were filled with dignity and peace. My mother spent her later years at TSO surrounded by kindness, stability, and genuine care. For any family searching for a place where their loved one will not only be cared for, but truly cherished, I cannot recommend Tran's Senior Oasis enough.

I've also been…read moreable to watch first hand and see the care and concern that the owners have put into this community; down to the finest of details. Knowing that every little detail was carefully calculated in order for a loved one's need really sets this community apart. The passion, drive and experience of the staff here really are second to none. My career revolves around senior care. If you're familiar with dementia or Alzheimer's, it seems that a simple but overlooked concept is that people who have memory loss thrive in a smaller community setting. It breaks my heart when I walk into any community with a larger case load; to me the residents aren't able to get the support that they require. Sundara's design for a smaller, more intimate setting allows for a better quality of life with those diagnosed with memory loss. This is a great way for anyone's family member to live out their life. Instead of being a number, they're an actual member of an tiny family unit at Sundara. Another thing that sets apart Sundara is it's pricing. Sundara Senior Care does not believe in charging for different levels of care, and they don't believe in any sort of add-on's or up-charges. This is invaluable - fixed fee and all-inclusive pricing is an amazing benefit to this community. First hand, I know that it can be difficult to anticipate the costs associated with long-term care for a loved one and this is an absolutely amazing concept. When it comes time to look at options for my own family, I will look no further than Sundara Senior Care. I am confident based on my observations and understanding of this community that it is the perfect option.

She is from another culture and we had struggled to find a facility who was willing to cater to those differences, when it comes to the foods she still loves, but Sundara's staff have been happy to prepare her favorite foods so that she can feel like she's at home and that has made a big difference for her. Their staff is the most caring that we've seen and we have tried four other facilities. They keep her clean and dry. They keep her room clean and tidy. My mother is wheel chair bound and helpless to care for herself. We have finally found a place that actually takes care of her physically, mentally, and spiritually. Mom is finally at home.
