Hired a sitter for 9am to 4pm. Did not want to give them access to my bank account for an automatic payment so gave them my creditcard. The sitter had nothing to do but let the dog in and out. When received the invoice, I was charged $36/hr. When I called the company, I was told that the first representative documented I would be charged $34/hr and since I put it on my credit card, I was charged $2 more per hour. I consider that rediculous. Watch out this place is devious.

I had asked the company and many others in the healthcare field if they knew of a lower priced home health agency because this one like others, was too expensive for my dad. Right At Home said no I suspect because they want to make a profit. They sent a wonderful employee out and she was a Godsend and like a paid sister to me with helping my father. A couple times she could not be there and they sent out 2 other women those two separate times, one a black lady who was very nice and the other time a young, lazy white woman who sat around and left her fast food trash for me to clean up! Sadly my father could not afford it and he thought he could be more independent and he got an infection and ended up passing away a few days later. Ironically APS had been called (a risk to himself) and THEY gave me a name of an agency that would have provided home health care my dad could have afforded. I had an appt. set up for the day he ended up dying. Meanwhile a few days after my dad died I got a call from right At Home. I expected it to be a sympathy call, it was not. It was the owner asking to be paid. THEY NEVER GAVE CONDOLENCES TO THIS DAY! It gets worse. My dad had them being paid on auto withdrawal and when he died this company and others drained that bank account. The whole estate went into probate and I could not access any money. I had to pay 20k out of my own pockets to pay my dad's mortgage, utilities, lawyer, etc. I asked the owner to stop trying to withdraw the funds automatically that it was costing the estate 35 dollars each time he tried. He did not care and ignored me. A year passed and I still had no access to my father's money. Yet I still get calls from this company asking for money. If they had stopped trying to withdraw the money from his account I could have had the money to pay them, I do not at this time. Also I will double check and make sure their accounting is in order because they may have already collected the money but have a lousy accounting system. As I have gone thru this hell of grieving and having to deal with the disgusting probate system and slimy lawyers, this company has been an added pest.

The care notes that they know have to be correct for we're not reviewed before sent in. And many times blank care notes were submitted. The care notes and ADL's is reviewed by the insurance to pay. When asked to resubmit completed care notes, we were accused of insurance fraud. The insurance company was just aghast about that one. Care givers would not show up but still submit hours worked. Somehow the owner would try to make that our fault. Dishonest and not good people to take care of anyone's parent. We don't know about the other RaH locations, but we do this one. (4 calls) They left me without any support for 3 days. Then, I called Right at Home and they are so impressive and wonderful. I cannot recommend them enough. I called at Right at Home and spoke to Cami. She came out the next day to my Dad's house. She is very caring and professional. I immediately felt good that this is a company that does what they say they are going to do. She made it super easy to schedule health care providers via text. She was flexible about the times. The home healthcare providers she sent to the house, Brittany and Victoria, were wonderful and super sweet to my Dad. They did what was required and even figured out extra stuff to do around the house. I think their prices are very reasonable but it was really priceless to me that I could depend on people to help us. They really helped us during this very difficult time. I was able to trust them and that is huge at a time like this.

We reported this incident immediately to HC. Alice, the owner contacted me and asked me to pay for the medical check using our homeowners policy. Are you kidding me, this was completely inappropriate - as they inspected our property before coming out and we were not the caregivers employer. We were losing our father and we were in no way financially responsible for this incident nor could we handle this kind of issue while facing the death of our father. I would definitely not recommend this company. I have been a healthcare administrator for over 30 years - and knew the procedures for employee incidents. Because Natalie is an RN, she had a wealth of information to share and was able to look at our situation from a medical standpoint, not only from a business owner's standpoint. While visiting with our mom, Natalie was patient, kind, straightforward and well spoken. She spoke to our mother with respect and shared the options for her future care. After speaking with our mom, Natalie shared with my brother and I her thoughts on the next steps. She said she was hopeful that the care that Home Care Assistance of Austin provides would be a good choice for our mom, but that we might want to go ahead and look into some memory care facilities, just in case it didn't work out. This advice was reassuring in that we understand that Natalie could have only offered her opinion as a business owner but instead, she spoke truthfully about the reality of our mom's condition and encouraged us to be prepared. Making decisions for a loved one with options that are heart-wrenching is difficult, but having people like Natalie, who genuinely care, is refreshing. You have to find the right caregiver, but once you do, the results are very good indeed. The people…read morein the office are extremely helpful and accommodating, and they take all complaints and requests seriously, doing their best to match the client with the right person and the right schedule. There are indeed some "duds," as one reviewer said, but as long as the client can communicate the problem, those duds don't last long. The main problem--not with the Angels, but with any such organization--is a general service industry problem: once a rapport has been established between client and caregiver, it can be fleeting, or frustratingly impermanent if the caregiver changes jobs, or locations, or schedules. My mother still misses some of the Angels who helped her quite a bit, and were really good company, even though her current caregiver is also top notch. Just the fact that excellent people do come to work for Visiting Angels speaks really well for them, even if those people don't stay as long as one might like.

Sara Tucker, our care manager, was efficient, kind, perceptive, and thoughtful. Nanci Kahn, a nurse at Senior Services of Austin, was also very helpful and compassionate. My dad and I worked extensively with Sara and Nanci for over two years, and I don't know how we would have managed without their help. They helped coordinate my dad's move and make sure he was safe in his new apartment, and helped us manage medication challenges, navigate difficult hospital and rehab stays, and plan next steps after discharge. They advised us (always in a non-judgmental and not pushy way) when we weren't sure what to do and offered us logistical and practical support. At a time when we really needed help, they were the best support system we could have asked for. I was also glad that the owner of the company, Ariel Goward, was on call to help when Sara wasn't available. I highly recommend Senior Services of Austin to anyone needing assistance with issues related to caring for an aging family member.

Working my family against me, convincing them I was a problem, tearing the family apart. However, in the presence of a knowledgeable 3rd party professional, those charges against me evaporated into thin air. The admin is now restricted to going thru the mediator if she has issues. My only regret is in not bringing the in earlier. Know the Patient's bill of rights, and don't let a facility bully you.
