Dr. Alvarez found a "needle" in a haystack! I had suffered an optic eye stroke in my left eye, which left me bind in the center of that eye. I went to her to be put under the care of a Neurologist. In her office that day, while talking to me, she noticed something going on with booth my eyes being "droopy" and my walk a little different. She ordered lab work because she suspected that I also had Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disease. She was right! I have been in her care now, for 11 years, and I'm blessed that she is the one who is treating me, professional, skilled and kind. read more

There's a reason why this place has such low stars and terrible reviews. PLEASE consider other places and don't waste your time here. Dr Alvarez is beyond rude and unprofessional it makes you wonder how she's even a DOCTOR?? All it took for me was to go in once for my migraines and she basically told me I was wasting her time because my case wasn't serious. Clearly it was if was referred to see a neurologist immediately. I was loosing my vision and vomiting for hours! Mind you I've been dealing with this for 8 years. Apologies if that's not serious enough for you. Dr Alvarez I think it's time to wrap it up. This Neurologist thing may not be for you! Luckily you have a lifetime to choose another career path I'm rooting for you! read more

The first time I met Dr Alvarez was in 2020 when I was seeking to have metal removed from my head due to a traumatic brain/head injury. The metal was causing me to pray for God to take me home almost daily. My ENT doctor was going to perform the surgery to remove the metal. Instead of her saying yes... she wanted to send me to pain management. I told her no thank you.... and that I was not going to live the rest of my life suffering because she didn't want to help me. After a long battle my insurance company approved the surgery and I had the metal removed. This helped somewhat but I still have chronic migraines that can only be described as skull crushing. I am 57 y/o now and was referred back to Dr Alvarez. To my misfortune she hasn't changed and she certainly is not a well trained doctor. Now I am seeking an updated MRI to see the brain and blood flow throughout the veins in my head. The MRI with contrast is the best for this outcome..... unfortunately for me Dr Alvarez declined the MRI with contrast. I pray for anyone that goes into her office. I hope they get better results. read more

I've suffered from migraines since I was a teen. I've learned to just deal with them all throughout my life. Recently, I took inventory of why I am not getting help for it. I finally broke down, and this is where I was referred to. I was very concerned with the previous reviews. I am glad that I didn't just shut down. I arrived at my appointment and was instantly greeted and then handed a semi book to fill out. Sai (the assistant) came and called me to get weighed and blood pressure done. Sai was very kind. Dr. Alvarez came in shortly after and went over my information throughly. We decided on getting an MRI and then figuring out a plan afterward. I was issued two sample packets of migraine medication. I appreciated the time she took with me. I also appreciated how clean the whole establishment was. Loved the fountain in the bathroom. I have a follow-up appointment after the MRI. I will try to remember to come back and do an update. Not sure what all the 1 star reviews were about, but that was NOT my experience. Thank you read more

Dr. Alvarez was always very professional with my husband and myself. We both went to her for two different issues. Mine was severe headaches. My husband had an unusual movement in his hands we were trying to get assistance with. I could not have been treated better. read more

I had a deeply disappointing experience with this neurologist. I came in seeking answers and support for some serious symptoms, including temporary vision loss and intense pain that occurs when I turn my head. Unfortunately, I was completely dismissed. The doctor barely listened to me before suggesting my symptoms might be anxiety-related. She then left the room and never came back. I still had important questions and concerns--especially regarding the vision loss without any headache--and asked the nurse if I could speak with the doctor again. I was told she wouldn't be returning and was simply handed a prescription for migraines. At no point were my symptoms taken seriously, and I left the appointment feeling disregarded and unheard. This was not just frustrating--it was unacceptable, especially when dealing with potentially serious neurological issues. I do not recommend this office if you are looking for a doctor who will actually listen and provide thoughtful care. read more

The front staff is usually courteous, but Dr.Alvarez has a very cold bedside manner. She comes across arrogant and aloof. I asked a few questions and her answers are always flippant and slightly sarcastic. Good for the Doctor for getting a higher education, but it doesn't mean you don't need to have any compassion or social skills. Will not go back to this Doctor after meeting with her at least 4 times hoping for her to be a little more compassionate and not like a robot. There are plenty of other good Neurologists in the area that we have found. read more

If negative stars could be given I would. I have seen MULTIPLE neurologist over the course of 10+ years and have never dealt with or left an appointment in complete shock of how she treats/deals with patients. Gave her my med hx she said she'd be back 20 minutes later im given my discharge paperwork. With no help no solutions nothing but "Drink Water" dealing with the issue and being medicated for a decade I think the whole drink water is the solution would have worked years ago. Didn't ask for the contact of my other doctors recommending treatment I had it all pulled up waiting for her to 'return' and she never came back. And guess what the kicker is they coded the visit as a high level new patient visit that requires 60-75 minutes funny given I only saw her for 5-10minutes. Needless to say insurances have been contacted formal complaints have been filed. Do not waste your time. read more

Worse experience ever not only was she rude when we asked if they spoke Spanish but she lied cause her front desk lady spoke Spanish. She didn't even finish the consultation with my dad, and nit sure why but they asked 4 or 5 times if he had to use the restroom. The worse part is she continued threatening to take his license. The doctor is a nightmare. read more

This is the worst Doctor and office I have ever dealt with. If I could change Doctors I would. The personal is very unresponsive. They set up appointments and when you get to the office they tell you that this is just a courtesy appointment and they will try to get you in after waiting for an hour. Call to get prescriptions filled and they never call back have to continually follow up. Needed a letter for power of attorney they charged $100 dollars and said it would be two weeks and had to go to office to pick up! Very rude staff and extremely unprofessional! read more

After several encounters with neuro specialists, I'm realizing neurologists tend to be extremely arrogant and dismissive. After a lot of shoulder shrugging from other neurologists, I specifically made an appointment with Dr. Alvarez because her website said she is "committed to providing a comprehensive diagnosis". She talked at me for literally 5-10 minutes then diagnosed me with fibromyalgia or "some sort of neurotoxin". Even after I told her I saw a rheumatologist who saw no sign of fibromyalgia, or any other autoimmune disorder, for that matter. No follow up, no tests. Just an implied SNL "buh-bye." Luckily I found Dr. Yusufally, who was kind, caring, and listened to me!! read more

Dr Alvarez was wonderful. Very attentive, professional and helpful. Her bedside manner was far and away above any doctor I've seen.

Do NOT waist your time and money on Dr Alvarez. I have been her patient for about 10 years. I have chronic migraines. All she wants to do is push drugs. I finally had to ask her to order an MRI of my brain. She got the results the day after my MRI. I have an AVM with evidence of a bleed in my brain and it has been almost 2 weeks and she still has not reached out to let me know. I even called her office and talked to her nurse, asking about my results. Still no call. Completely unbelievable and unacceptable. It is obvious that she does not care about the welfare of her patients. I would give her no stars if I could. read more

Absolute worst experience ever! I wouldn't go to this Dr of they were paying me to attend appointments. I was treated very rudely by Dr Alvarez's receptionist, Rosa. Admittedly, I did not bring my paperwork with me which meant I would have to fill out out before my appointment, not the end of the world but Rosa and like it was. Rosa was very curt and rude in her demeanor and tone of voice telling me, "you have to fill these out and it will cut into your appointment time. Then she practically had a conniption because she couldn't find a clipboard so she shoved the papers into my hands and told me to fill them out that way. If not for her attitude and mannerism, it would have been fine. I decided to cancel my appointment because I was on the verge of tears due to her treatment. She then tells me, in a snotty tone of voice, she intends to charge me a $50 penalty for a missed appointment. I informed her I was there for my appointment but was leaving because of her rude treatment of me so I wouldn't be paying any penalty. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. Dr Alvarez needs to have a sit-down, heart-to-heart with Rosa and, somehow, impress upon her, it's not what you say, it's how you say it. I notice Dr Alvarez hasn't claimed her business, to be honest, I wouldn't claim it either with her lowly 2 star rating. Personality, I gave one star because it won't let you give a review with no stars. read more

Worst experience ever. The staff are totally incompetent!!!! Would not make an appointment until they received the records from the hospital. This is the most unprofessional neurologist I've ever had they don't treat me with respect they never call me back she says that everything is correct with me when I clearly don't feel right I am a 24 year old man with epilepsy I go in there to get a scan and they say that I'm fine when I clearly have some issues that need to be fixed either the upper or lower my medicine and they said I was fine it's not fair that she only does paperwork on Thursdays when people need their shit done that day who the fuck only does paperwork on only one day?! I don't recommend this place to anybody no wonder it has only two stars if I were able to give a lower star rating than one I would give it a -10,000 I hope this place gets shut down and she learns her lesson on how to treat patients with respect! read more

Nope. After a year of visits they left me more frustrated than when I arrived. No tests were done to see why I have chronic migraines. Taking injections every three weeks with no relief but won't refer me to acupuncture. Probably because the injection is $900. Last migraine I tried for two weeks to get help. They told me not to go to the emergency room then told me that they couldn't treat me because they couldn't bill my insurance. Then said I couldn't have a copy of the notes on my file because they were internal and I wasn't privy to them. Needless to say... acupuncture is working. read more

My mom had 2 strokes last year and has been referred to this doctor. I have been trying to get a simple appointment scheduled for 6 months ,but every time I have called the office staff have given me excuse after excuse as to why they can NOT schedule an appointment. I have never had such a difficult time making a simple appointment. I have been given referrals by the hospital doctors & her PCP for this doctor. They would not schedule because they did not receive a copy of the referral, so I faxed them a copy. I had to do this 3 times, because they still hadn't received a copy. Next , it was because I had the wrong service code, then it was the diagnosis was not on the referral & without a diagnosis on the referral they are unable to schedule an appointment. 6 months without being able to see this neurologist after having 2 strokes. I feel bad for anyone who has to deal with this office/doctor and may be a soft spoken person or an elderly person who doesn't have someone to advocate for them. Obviously she is i the medical profession for the money and not patient care. read more

So it's been almost a year and I'm back because the other Neurologists in my area were worse. I thought I'd give Dr. Alvarez another try, out of necessity, and it's reached a comical level. The receptionist made an appoint for me 3 WEEKS AGO so away I went today. The nurse took me in and just as she was taking my blood pressure, Dr. Alvarez comes in and interrupts. She states that they won't treat me because I left a "scathing review on a public site." I asked her if she even read the review and she said, No. She didn't care what it said and notified my insurance that they would have to find me another doctor. Her exact words were.. "You have the right to write a review and I have the right not to treat you." As of today she has 26 reviews, 19 are 1-Star. I guess it's not just me. I've contacted my insurance company and will be contacting the medical board. We shouldn't have to be treated like second class citizens just because we need medical care and don't have the most expensive insurance. Most people who are very sick don't have the energy to fight back or insist on being treated fairly. I've been too sick to work for 4+ years but I've had enough. If we patients work together, maybe things will change!! read more

I wish I'd have read the reviews about her before seeking her "professional opinion". She is dry and condescending. She has an accusatory manor and did not address me with kindness, compassion or understanding. I felt defensive and she could have kindly explained her POV without insulting my perception. I would not refer her and I'm compelled to share my opinion of her here. I strongly encourage others to see a different neurologist. Like the other reviews, she stated opposing views about my MRI results than other neurologists and simply treated me poorly. Shame on her behavior. Her staff was kind. Drove to this clinic and seemed like I was in wonderland , this is all new construction in the are and seems like a brand new city. The clinic is on the first floor and entrance is at the back of the building. Parking yes you have to look for a good spot as traffic in this office was high. I was astonished to see see a huge Neurology sign on the entrance and inside was the most sophisticated well decorated office with high ceilings. At the desk was the most down to earth smiling and helpful young woman. I was asked to wait in their waiting room which has couches, the softest ones that I have ever seen in a office. It did not take long for me to be called to the doctors office and this was a very friendly young woman. I enjoyed my trip to this office and would recommend her as the best neurologist in Murrieta. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GO HERE !!!!!! I Have seen Dr. Alvarez twice now, and each time she has been condescending and belittling. I first went after I had what appeared to be a stroke back in June. Now when I was in the hospital the neurologist didn't see anything on the MRI so he determined no stroke.( even though every other Doctor that saw me thought I had ) He didn't do any tests on me or anything. When I went to Dr. Alvarez She was very defensive for her colleague and said I didn't have a stroke even though I have all the symptoms. She was confrontational when my wife asked questions and then she got up and left and did not come back in. Her nurse came in with instructions for testing they were totaly not clearly written it took me 3 weeks to figure out I needed to go to a Neuropsychologist for psychological battery testing her instructions made it appear they were two separate things like see psychologist and get psychological battery testing .Problem was nobody knew who administered those tests. I had to figure it out myself The second visit was before the psychological battery test had been done so we went over a sleep deprived EEG that was normal so again she said stop calling it a stroke and I don't need to come back again. Results from the psychological battery tests that show cognitive function show DEFINITE RIGHT SIDE DEFICTS and my memory capacity can only remember a few items. And I mix up words. Oh and when we told Dr. Alvarez that thery're are instances of strokes that don't show up on imaging she asked us where we found our information? My wife said the internet. She just smirked and said " you can find whatever you want on the internet " and walked out. A pet rock has more compassion then her. read more

I left PrimeCare Medical Group of Temecula because they refer patients to this horrible woman for Neurological treatment. All the 1 star reviews on here are absolutely accurate. I know they all wish there was a zero stars. I wish I had seen these reviews before I accepted this referral. She is not qualified to treat patients. When she realizes that she is unable to treat your condition, she leaves the room and has her medical assistant come in. She hands you a inaccurate report, full of misspelled words, and dismisses you. What a terrible disappointment. Back to PPO for me. Worth the money to see a real doctor. read more

Had appt with Dr Alvarez, and was seen in a timely manner. I was explaining some of the symptoms I had, and that an MRI result should have been sent to her office for my appt. She left the room saying she'd check on it and be back. After waiting 10-15 min, I went to front desk and I was handed my appt report. I told them they had to be kidding, I didn't even finish telling her my complaints, and she was suppose to come back. I left with my mouth open. When I went out to car , and read report, I was even more upset. There were statements that were incorrect, or accessments that hadn't been made. I went back in, and asked them to have Dr correct. They sent her an email, and will mail me a copy of new report. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Pamela Alvarez for quite a few years now with neurological complications due to lyme. She's been a kind, considerate and extremely knowledgeable doctor. Frankly, I find myself very thankful that I even was able to get "in" as a patient all those years back. And when my insurance comes up for renewal I have fought to keep her on several times. Because losing her would be tragic. Neurology isn't an easy medicine and you don't want just any hat hanging on the rack... I have had extensive improvement under her care and I'd like to see that improvement continue. She genuinely does care for her patients...and takes her oath very seriously. Dr. Alvarez is the rudest, heartless doctor (or even person) I have ever met in my life. She stares you down and degrades you. I don't know what goes on in her life to make her so miserable, but you should never treat a patient this way! She refused to help me with my chronic migraines and decided to change up some of me other meds that my GP put me on. Not ok! The PA there was so kind and listens to everything you say. This Doctor is not good with her diagnosis. My mom was in the hospital under Dr. Alvarez's care, it was completely aparent my mom was having a stroke to my entire family, her one side was paralyzed, she could not talk, she was unable to close her mouth and was also in for heart problems, we had to tell this doctor she was having a stroke, but Alvarez insisted it was psychosis, and under her care within 3 days my mom had a few more strokes and a heart attack. This doctor did not go over the MRI reports with us in depth but put on the hospital records that she discussed the results, nor did she go over the seriousness of her mistakes she made on her diagnosis. We recently found out how bad the mri report was by a Real Neurologist in San Diego whom did go over her records from the hospital, if your family member has a serious problem neurologically DO NOT LET THIS DOCTOR examine your loved one! I have heard of other people under her care in the hospital she has screwed up us as well, look for other comments on yelp, they will be coming. Wow!! Luckily we found a Top of the line Neurologist who can help my mom and fix the mess this doctor has made. read more

If you have Multiple Sclerosis, DO NOT GO HERE. She is not as knowledgeable as she is supposed to be. She needs to stick to treating headaches... This office has severely dropped the ball with my husbands care, so much so that I am even contemplating getting an attorney. Alvarez prescribed Gilenya for my husband last year. While you take Gilenya, you are supposed to get your blood and eyes checked throughout the year to ensure your liver isn't failing, heart is ok and your eyes are in check. They scheduled him twice. Both times in the beginning. The first time, he got it and they made an appointment for him to go back in to get the results. Fine, however they didn't bill it as a follow-up therefore the co-pay came into play AND he didn't even see Alvarez. So, the second blood work, he got it and when they called to make his appointment with them for the results he asked for them over the phone. We didn't have money for the co-pay and he doesn't see the dr anyways. They refused to do that, we told them we can't play this game - we simply can't afford to pay $60 every few weeks for someone to say "you're good" that isn't even the dr. So he cancelled that appointment. Apparently, that meant "never treat me again". They never scheduled another bloodwork lab or anything. Now, renewal has come and they put on the insurance that he hadn't been in in over a year (untrue, even now writing this review, it hasn't been a year) so the insurance denied his renewal for his meds. We contacted them to find out why once we found out about the denial and they said because he hasn't been in...seriously. So, we scheduled and waited and waited AND WAITED and over a month later, he finally got in...didn't see Alvarez. Saw some assistant, left with his paper in his hand with questions, as usual. Oh and of course, paid the copay. So now, we are still doing the renewal dance, they are still dragging their feet not cooperating and my husband is still waiting for his renewal. Both my insurance, the company we have our insurance through AND Gilenya have all said they have never had an experience like this with a dr's office that is so unorganized and so tough to get information and results from. Why should they care, my husband is the one in pain not them. Don't play their game. They aren't worth it, unless you have a headache of course. My husband has been going here for the past two-three years. At first, it was ok. Coming from the UCI system, any personable contact seems terrific. At first, she didn't seem as informed as we would have liked. I was correcting her on a couple things relating to MS myself. But, we figured what the heck, he is on one of the meds, she orders the occasional MRI all will be good. Not so much. First off, her office staff is HORRIBLE. I have never seen anything quite like this. They do not inform the dr of things they say they do, they deny prescriptions without consulting with the dr (one of my husbands rx's were denied and they told the pharmacy they don't prescribe stuff like that - when Alvarez originally wrote the prescription - we go in on our next appointment and Alvarez had no clue why it was denied and renewed the prescription). Their knowledge about insurance billing is sub-standard. They really do not get it. They could give a crap about the patient, they simply do not care. They will get around to it when they want to and who cares who suffers in the meantime. Dr. Alvarez is ok. Again, she is nice but really needs to study up on MS a little bit more. She mainly treats people with migraines, she should stick with that. And boy oh boy, don't you let her leave that room because once she leaves for something she is GONE. The next person that comes back in is one of her assistant's with your paper in hand shoo'ing you out wrapping it up. We still had many questions when he first went on Gilenya that we had to hit the internet for because she disappeared. read more

When I called to make the appointment I was told that the office manager refuses to take my specific plan due to problems getting reimbursed from Blue Shield. It wasn't that they didn't take my insurance according to the person on the phone but it was the decision on the part of the office manager to refuse to see patients with my type of plan (bronze, silver, gold -- I have silver).
